Obama’s way with words

Jeff, I really enjoyed debating with you. You’re a nice dude and fun to argue with. Since neither of us took it really seriously. — Barry Obama, 1978 high school yearbook The president clearly won his first debate, but that was 34 years ago, when he was a junior in Mrs. Weldon’s speech class at Punahou School in Hawaii. The topic was gun control and, on a lark, Barry Obama decided to take the side against gun regulations. He went into the debate cool and easy. Jeff Cox, his opponent, spent weeks compiling statistics, memorizing arguments, rehearsing

Obie has learned, with his Marxist training, to manipulate the emotions of the sheople.

Rational arguments are meaningless in the minds of morons, and that is who Obie appeals to. This is why Obie won and Jeff lost...

One must appeal to the same lack of intellect as Obie with different 'promises'. We have seen the enemy and he is us, greedy, stupid and above all so lazy we don't want to keep our freedom and will sell out to the highest offer, not realizing we just sold our soul and there is no refund!

Barry is absolutely right when he said words are the power to be most feared. Knowing this, leftists spend most of tbeir lives trying to learn how to be good manipulators and liars. They are masters at using words to mislead people and shape their perceptions. This is how some people who should otherwise be intelligent can also fall for their propaganda. Not all leftist followers are dumb or uneducated. A lot are just miseducated...misled...indoctrinated. But it is easier to get the ignorant and stupid to follow and, lucky for them, their numbers are higher than the smart folks. Anyway, the right may have truth on its side, but we need to be better at using words to our advantage. We don't think about it, because we have integrity and are not trying to manipulate others. But that also makes us vulnerable and we lose because we don't put a priority on words.

#3 you are so right - anyone whose local city or county council has signed on to Agenda 21/ICLEI tommy rot, should listen out for buzz words which sound fuzzy warm and harmless - like sustainable, futurewise, biodiverse and other environmental cliches. This is dangerous for your family future every which way.

It was the Founders vision that people like Obama would emerge, that's why they passed the 2nd amendment and a well armed militia rule.People have to be able to protect themselves, even against their own government.

You have to wonder where this writer got this story from unless it was spoon fed by Obama.

Over a half-century ago I was a High School debater. Here's how it works. I was recruited in Jr HS by a HS speech teacher. Each year when the topic for the year was chosen I spent five months doing research before I was assigned a side [Until 2 weeks before the firt tournament I didn't know if I was pro or con]. It is all presentation. In over 100 tournament debates my partner and I lost one [1!]. We did our research and knew the subject and then moved on to worrying solely about presentation.

Barry's problem is, this ain't junior high school and the topic isn't chocolate vs. vanilla.

And, if slick chatter was going to win this election, Marc Lamont Hill would be the one debating Romney on Tuesday, not Hip-hop Hollywood Barry.

WASHINGTON — The White House threatened to veto a House bill that would block the Internal Revenue Service from issuing a rule that would narrow the definition of who qualifies for a 501(c)(4) exemption as a social welfare organization. Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp’s (R-Mich.) Stop Targeting of Political Beliefs by the IRS Act, which was in the Rules Committee on Tuesday evening, would freeze the finalization of the rule for one year and restore the 501(c)(4) standards and definitions that were in place before conservative groups started to come under extra scrutiny in 2010. Last month we wrote about the threatening phone call from then-Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner to the head of the parent company of Standard & Poor´s after S&P downgraded the U.S. credit rating in 2011. Now we learn that Mr. Geithner placed the call to McGraw Hill Chairman and CEO Harold McGraw III just five minutes after leaving an Oval Office meeting with President Barack Obama. This detail, drawing on information contained in Mr. Geithner´s public schedule, was included late yesterday in a filing by S&P in federal court in the Central District of California. Fifty years ago today, Muhammad Ali “shocked the world” and beat one of the most fearsome fighters ever to put on a pair of boxing gloves, heavyweight champion Sonny Liston. But what if that storied fight was not what it seemed? It happened Feb. 25, 1964, at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The film clip and sound bite have now become part of the American story — Liston quitting his stool before the eighth round, a young Cassius Clay, as Ali was known then, bouncing around the ring, waving his hands, yelling to the reporters at ringside who thought he would be killed by the more veteran boxer.

Susan Rice ought to stay off “Meet the Press.” The last time she was on, she misrepresented what led to the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi, Libya. On Sunday she was back, this time misrepresenting critics of the Obama administration’s Syria policy. Last time her misrepresentation was unintentional. This time it wasn’t. I prefer it, though, when she doesn’t know what she’s talking about. In a frustrating colloquy with host David Gregory, Rice initially said all the right things about Syria. She called the war there “horrific,” which indeed it is. She said it had “spilled over and infused

It has the makings of a royal mess for “King Barack.” Monday morning’s Supreme Court argument about the Environmental Protection Agency’s authority to regulate greenhouse gases went badly for the Obama administration — so much so that the real question before the justices seemed to be how severe the EPA’s loss would be. The administration’s solicitor general, Donald Verrilli, pleaded with the justices to recognize the “urgent problem” of climate change, because the “threat to future generations gets worse” with each passing year. But as the argument played out, the court’s swing justice, Anthony Kennedy, made clear that he

The long-awaited simplification of the tax code being drafted by House Republicans would slash the top income tax rate to 25 percent from 39.6 percent and impose a surtax on some of the nation’s wealthiest households. Under the proposal, set for release Wednesday, the vast majority of taxpayers would see little change in the ultimate size of their tax bills, according to a nonpartisan congressional analysis of the legislation. But the tax system would be dramatically simpler, with seven existing brackets collapsed into just two, set at 10 percent and 25 percent. In addition, the plan would impose a 10 percent surtax on certain types of earned

KIEV, Ukraine — Russian leaders expressed their distrust and dislike of Ukraine’s new government on Monday, saying it came to power through “armed mutiny,” just hours after the authorities here announced a nationwide manhunt for ousted president Viktor Yanukovych on charges of “mass murder of peaceful civilians.” Russia questioned the legitimacy of Ukraine’s interim leadership, charging that it used a peace deal brokered by Europe to make a power grab and to suppress dissent in Russian-speaking regions through “terrorist methods.” The tone was much harsher than any previous Russian response to the events of the past few days.

The Obama administration warned Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday not to react too aggressively to the fast-moving developments in Ukraine, where pro-Western demonstrators forced the nation’s Moscow-backed president from power over the weekend. National Security Adviser Susan E. Editorial cartoons often aren´t pretty, to paraphrase Steve Martin´s observation about the perils of comedy. But a cartoon in the Opinion section of today´s New York Times is downright ugly. The cartoon, alluding to this year´s brutal winter, suggests U.S. Department of Commerce "Strategies for Dealing With the 2014 Icicle Surplus." Among them are using icicles as "locally sourced hydration devices," "temporary doorsteps," and "brainteasers for dogs." Then comes a suggestion that one immediately looks at again, in disgust and disbelief -- icicles can also be used as "self-destructing sabers for dispatching climate-change deniers."
