| Spelling potentially new trouble for U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., federal investigators have launched a probe into the South Shore congressman’s finances — a completely new area of scrutiny, sources told the Chicago Sun-Times. The investigation — based in the Washington, D.C., FBI field office — is not related to the attempted sale of the U.S. Senate seat that figured in former Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s corruption conviction, but is focusing on “suspicious activity” involving the congressman’s finances related to his House seat and the possibility of inappropriate expenditures, sources said.

The hirsute Rod Blogojevich went to prison for, among other acts of corruption, putting Obama's Senate seat up for sale to the highest bidder. The Jacksons were outbid (if the whispers were correct they offered Blago $500,000) and Junior didn't get tapped for the job. If, however, it can be established that any such bid was made, whether successful or not, Blago will soon have some company in the Iron Bar Motel. Merely offering a bribe is a felony. I suspect that Junior's bizarre behavior and alleged medical attention involves the direst legal jeopardy. For a family that made its fortune on, essentially, extortion, the circle may finally be about to go round.

I guess now we'll start seeing why JR had to cook up some kind of "insanity/mental defect" case that will cite his recent trip to loompa-land and, due to so much stress JR was under (doing the people's business of course) he couldn't possibly be held accountable for any financial funny-business.
Then, Papa (Jesse) will be compelled to hold a million man march in protest of the injustice of society's treatment of the mentally-ill -- especially those facing criminal court.
Punchline -- it's Romney/Ryan's fault!

Sheesh. These [pre-deleted] mutts wrote laws to literally make financial crimes legal for them to commit, andthat's still not enough for the likes of Junior. Apparently he's got a fairly-high greed appetite. How about that?
FTA: Jackson’s congressional spokesman Frank Watkins said he was unaware of any investigation, had no comment and had no immediate way to get a hold of the congressman.
But he's still got his hand in your pocket and mine, getting paid, getting perks [like a "spokesman"].
Had enough?
BTW -- about the photo. Junior seems to have just a little Ray Leonard, maybe a very, very slight trace of Belafonte. Not much of Senior in that face, though. Well, lots of Senior on the inside, though. Ugh.

Chicago Public Schools’ removal of the graphic novel Persepolis from classrooms sparked protests Friday and outcry from the autobiographical novel’s Iranian-born author. The district denied Friday it had banned the book outright from CPS schools, saying instead it only removed them from 7th grade classrooms for being “inappropriate.” CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett also ordered up training for any high school teachers who wish to continue using the illustrated story of Marjane Satrapi growing up in revolutionary Iran.

Federal securities regulators implicitly blamed former Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his budget office for the fraudulent manner in which state bond investors were misled about Illinois’ sickly pension ledgers. But in making a nearly unprecedented case of securities fraud against the state, the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday laid bare a trail of responsibility for Illinois’ nearly $100 billion pension crisis that extends far beyond the impeached ex-governor’s scandalous time in office.

In the dark hours of Thursday morning, Feb. 28, I awoke to find CNN featuring a continuous shot of a helicopter. The network cut between a close-up and a distant dot. It was Benedict, flying from the Vatican City. This was extraordinary attention for an ordinary cardinal, because as Benedict told the throng awaiting him, “I am no longer pope.” I am not a scholar of Catholic history, but I believe we were witnessing the first time the papal throne was vacant. It may have been occupied by rogues, scoundrels, impostors or even a woman, but always there was someone sitting there.

American health care is being transformed, for better or worse. “Better,” in this case, means parts of the Affordable Care Act that have polled well and been enacted, taking their place comfortably in the medical system. These include letting dependent children stay on their parents’ health insurance until age 26 and a ban on insurance companies dropping children for pre-existing conditions

Rep. Luis Gutierrez had just returned from taping a segment on “The O´Reilly Factor,” forming half of an ideological odd couple with Bill O´Reilly if there ever was one. He was preparing a House floor speech declaring, “The Republican Party really met Latinos on Election Day.” And he was telling me on the phone that, when it´s all over, “Chicago is going to see a lot more of Luis Gutierrez.” It´s that kind of moment for the Chicago Democrat. For nearly two decades, the onetime Northwest Side alderman has been an oft-lonely voice in the Washington wilderness on immigration reform.

With due respect to all of you hardworking political consultants and TV station owners, there´s only one reason to hold an election. That´s to determine who will shoulder the oft-onerous task of governing. Now that the election is over, President Barack Obama holds that honor. So do Springfield Democrats, particularly House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton. They wanted the job. They got the job. Now they have to produce. On the national level, one clear need is immigration reform.

AB/EV margins will be hard for them to overcome today. Right now – it’s a virtual tie. Somewhere around the time President Barack Obama and New Jersey Gov. Somewhere around the time Donald Trump was bleating about the president missing the deadline and saying charities would suffer because of it — as if the money wasn’t Trump’s to do with what he pleases — it hit me.

Flashback 2008: job losses in free fall, a housing market boom gone bust and credit markets in crisis amid the Great Recession. Four years later, the U.S. economy continues to climb out of the hole that engulfed it at a still sluggish pace, and economists say it will take many months to regain all the millions of jobs lost. Since the darkest days of the recession, which began in December 2007 and ended June 2009, the job market has gone from losing a high of 818,000 jobs in January 2009 to adding jobs for 25 straight months

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell largely is being ignored by the mainstream media, even in the face of grisly testimony, such as what we heard yesterday. Life News reports: ...a former employee described how she heard a baby scream during a live-birth abortion. Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Efforts by Senate Democrats to reach compromise with Republicans over expanding required federal background checks have yet to yield an agreement, and conservatives were promising to try

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

More than six months since Ambassador Christopher Stevens was assassinated by terrorists in Benghazi, the Obama administration is still trying to keep a lid on information about the attack. Congress and the American people need to know what happened the night of Sept. 11, 2012. Who did the killing and what was their motive? Why wasn´t help sent? And why did the administration lie about who was responsible? Members of Congress have asked hundreds of questions at hearings conducted by several investigative committees, but many of the most significant have been left unanswered. Margaret Thatcher had more impact on the world than any woman ruler since Catherine the Great of Russia. Not only did she turn around—decisively—the British economy in the 1980s, she also saw her methods copied in more than 50 countries. "Thatcherism" was the most popular and successful way of running a country in the last quarter of the 20th century and into the 21st. Her origins were humble. Born Oct. 13, 1925, she was the daughter of a grocer in the Lincolnshire town of Grantham. Alfred Roberts was no ordinary shopkeeper.
