Administration welcomed wolves

Imagine, pre-9/11/12, that you were responsible for arranging the defense of the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Would you have considered American interests and personnel best protected by bringing in a local security outfit called the February 17 Martyrs Brigade? The question has yet to come up in House hearings, but I think it holds the key to the Obama administration's betrayal of the American people in "Benghazi-gate."

And absolutely NONE of this was a predictable, permitted-to-happen event.
The entire debacle happened because of the general cluelessness of an administration whose many connections to the Muslim Brotherhood are nothing but coincidence.
Of course.

There was talk of tons of weapons being dropped to the anti-Qaddafi forces last year which were never accounted for. We didn't even know who the anti-Qaddafi people were.
I wonder if that same crowd got their hands on those weapons and used them to attack the US consulate.

Mandela´s world has gone awry

I cannot remember exactly when Nelson Mandela entered my consciousness, but I remember the giddiness I felt when they were forced to turn him loose after 27 years of captivity. I remember, after his release, how the stories and the songs that before had passively comforted me exploded with a kinetic energy that shattered the skepticism I had about my place in the world. To me, he was David slaying Goliath with a sling and stone. He was Bob Marley´s "Duppy Conqueror." "… the bars could not hold me... force could not control me..." Today, however, I am afraid that we tend to view the lives of individuals like Mandela,

Our bankrupt politics is on strident display in the manufactured crisis engulfing Obamacare. In every newspaper and on every news channel, Republicans can be found salivating over the success of their sabotage campaign, while fair-weather Democrats, fearful of upcoming elections, are backsliding on their commitment to adequate and affordable health care. And what exactly is feeding the frenzy on both sides? We are being told that it is the botched rollout of a government website where individuals can shop and sign up for health insurance. We are being told also that it is President Obama´s broken promise, the one he

President Barack Obama is doubling down on his Obamacare lies. He is now trying to erase retroactively his point-blank assurance to the American people that “if you like your health-care plan, you will be able to keep your health-care plan, period.” Drawing on his golfing experience, he is insisting on a mulligan as millions of Americans are losing the health insurance policies they have chosen because of Obamacare mandates. “What we said was you could keep it if it hasn’t changed since the law was passed,” he told Obamacare’s political beneficiaries and contractors this past Monday during a speech they

Big Brother is not only watching you. He is eavesdropping on you, stealing your metadata, snooping in your email and telling you what to eat and which illnesses you can treat if you’re lucky enough to see a doctor once Obamacare is implemented. In Obama’s 1984, Mark Tapson shows that if he were here today George Orwell would see a disturbing resemblance between the U.S. and the dystopian future he wrote about so prophetically a generation ago. Obama’s 1984 takes the reader into the dark heart of this administration, a place of omnipresent NSA surveillance, police state tactics by the

I grew up in Concord, Massachusetts, and my elementary and high-school education was infused with the history that was all around us, so I was very curious to know just how the shutdown of the nation´s parks had affected my most favorite part of Minute Man National Park -- the Old North Bridge. Had the Park Service wrapped the iconic Minute Man sculpture by Daniel Chester French in burlap, so the tourists couldn´t see it? I took a few minutes on a perfectly gorgeous Columbus Day to find out. (snip for picture) As I expected, the parking lots had been

Last night (October 9), my wife brought home a pamphlet from our local CVS pharmacy, titled "Affordable Care Act Answers." I didn´t expect to find anything in this simple booklet that I didn´t already know, but it did refer me to their website on the topic, CVS.com/insurance, which my wife asked me to check out. On the website is this Q&A entry: Do I need to have insurance? Yes. The ACA requires all Americans have health care coverage "that meets basic minimum standards." I said to my wife, "That´s flat-out false," and I sent a brief, indignant note to CVS

There have been trying times when men of foresight, faith and conviction have helped us to transcend the frailty of our human condition and to soar mightily as if we were gods. This moment in time would seem tailor-made for the appearance of such a person. The civil war in Syria, in which that country´s brutal leader, Bashar al-Assad, is beset by opponents who are just as brutal, cries out for someone to show us with clarity, charity and certainty what should be done for the good of country and the world.

The economy is still puttering along, which is to say it is still not strong enough to help a lot of average Americans. (Snip) The bottom line approach is not easily embraced by many Americans. There are those of us who continue to labor under the belief that work is a means of self-expression and that a job should contribute to the wholesome growth and sustainability of family and community. I believe the majority of Americans still hold to this view, but what would happen if our society as a whole resorted to the corporate model of life, that is, pursuing it through the bottom line?

I don´t normally display lawn signs or bumper stickers during political campaigns; I usually keep my voting preferences to myself. (That´s the point of secret ballots, right?) But the November 2012 elections got me charged up to the point where I felt the urge to do something public, and since my friends already knew how I felt, I didn´t think I would be divulging any secrets by doing so.

The maker of Sam Adams beer announced Friday that it is withdrawing its sponsorship of Boston´s St. Patrick´s Day parade because organizers exclude gay groups. Boston Beer Co.´s decision came a day after a bar in Boston´s South End said it would no longer serve Sam Adams beer because of the brewer´s affiliation with the parade, which is scheduled for Sunday. Mayor Martin Walsh and U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch have been trying to broker a deal that would have allowed a gay group to march, but those negotiations broke down. Fertility is the missing chapter in sex education. Sobering facts about women’s declining fertility after their 20s are being withheld from ambitious young women, who are propelled along a career track devised for men. The refusal by public schools’ sex-education programs to acknowledge gender differences is betraying both boys and girls. The genders should be separated for sex counseling. It is absurd to avoid the harsh reality that boys have less to lose from casual serial sex than do girls, who risk pregnancy and whose future fertility can be compromised by disease. Boys need lessons in basic ethics and moral reasoning

US officials believe that two communications systems aboard Malaysian Airlines flight 370 were shut down separately, 14 minutes apart - which indicates the plane did not come down because of a sudden catastrophic failure. Last week, the U.S. Tenth Circuit decided a case that should reverberate on Capitol Hill. In Kerr v. Hickenlooper, five Colorado legislators sought “standing” to challenge a state constitutional amendment. The three-judge panel — consisting of Carter and Clinton appointees — ruled in favor of the legislators’ standing. This decision should embolden members of Congress who correctly believe that President Obama has encroached upon Congress’ constitutional authority. Indeed, Congress should do no less in defending its authority than the five Colorado state legislators.
