| One of the Taliban's most feared commanders, Maulana Fazlullah, carefully briefed two killers from his special hit squad on their next target. The gunmen weren't going after any army officer, politician or western diplomat. Their target was a 14-year-old Pakistani schoolgirl who had angered the Taliban by speaking out for "western-style" girls' education. Tuesday's shooting of Malala Yousufzai was the culmination of years of campaigning that had pitted the fearless, smiling young girl against one of Pakistan's most ruthless Taliban commanders.

Such crazy, senseless acts are often the downfall of extremists and their causes.
Terrorism has always worked because terrorists can't kill everybody, but they can kill anybody. It took a 14-year-old girl to have the guts to stand up to them. Even the "Wellllll, we just have to be understanding of their cultural differences" crowd will not put up with the attempted murder of a brave teenage girl.
I wonder if the "War on Women" faction will finally call out the CAIR bunch and other apologists for radical Islam.

What is needed are retaliatory strikes. When Mulah's do this, someone with some cahones should strike back and 'kill' the offending Mulah.

Chicago Public Schools’ removal of the graphic novel Persepolis from classrooms sparked protests Friday and outcry from the autobiographical novel’s Iranian-born author. The district denied Friday it had banned the book outright from CPS schools, saying instead it only removed them from 7th grade classrooms for being “inappropriate.” CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett also ordered up training for any high school teachers who wish to continue using the illustrated story of Marjane Satrapi growing up in revolutionary Iran.

Federal securities regulators implicitly blamed former Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his budget office for the fraudulent manner in which state bond investors were misled about Illinois’ sickly pension ledgers. But in making a nearly unprecedented case of securities fraud against the state, the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday laid bare a trail of responsibility for Illinois’ nearly $100 billion pension crisis that extends far beyond the impeached ex-governor’s scandalous time in office.

In the dark hours of Thursday morning, Feb. 28, I awoke to find CNN featuring a continuous shot of a helicopter. The network cut between a close-up and a distant dot. It was Benedict, flying from the Vatican City. This was extraordinary attention for an ordinary cardinal, because as Benedict told the throng awaiting him, “I am no longer pope.” I am not a scholar of Catholic history, but I believe we were witnessing the first time the papal throne was vacant. It may have been occupied by rogues, scoundrels, impostors or even a woman, but always there was someone sitting there.

American health care is being transformed, for better or worse. “Better,” in this case, means parts of the Affordable Care Act that have polled well and been enacted, taking their place comfortably in the medical system. These include letting dependent children stay on their parents’ health insurance until age 26 and a ban on insurance companies dropping children for pre-existing conditions

It’s takedown time. Ald. Howard Brookins Jr., who has been blasting Police Supt. Garry McCarthy for the city’s gang violence, seems to be talking out of both sides of his mouth. Critics claim Brookins, who is demanding police grapple harder with guns and gangs, is undermining police action by representing gang members with gun convictions.

Sneed has learned a plea deal is now on the table between former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and federal authorities probing allegations of campaign fund misuse. Sneed is told the plea deal includes Jackson serving time in federal prison. “Significant jail time is now definitely a part of the deal,” said a top Sneed source close to the probe. “But I think [Jackson’s wife] Sandi, feels like she was thrown under the bus by her husband, ” now that a separate probe has begun on her, a second source added. Sandi Jackson claims she was stunned by campaign finance abuse disclosures against her husband,

Rep. Luis Gutierrez had just returned from taping a segment on “The O´Reilly Factor,” forming half of an ideological odd couple with Bill O´Reilly if there ever was one. He was preparing a House floor speech declaring, “The Republican Party really met Latinos on Election Day.” And he was telling me on the phone that, when it´s all over, “Chicago is going to see a lot more of Luis Gutierrez.” It´s that kind of moment for the Chicago Democrat. For nearly two decades, the onetime Northwest Side alderman has been an oft-lonely voice in the Washington wilderness on immigration reform.

With due respect to all of you hardworking political consultants and TV station owners, there´s only one reason to hold an election. That´s to determine who will shoulder the oft-onerous task of governing. Now that the election is over, President Barack Obama holds that honor. So do Springfield Democrats, particularly House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton. They wanted the job. They got the job. Now they have to produce. On the national level, one clear need is immigration reform.

This is what the Romney folks say is encouraging them. Passed along for what it’s worth: CO: Adams County (lean D county) – strong R turnout based on morning data – on track to win since first time in 1984. AB/EV margins will be hard for them to overcome today. Right now – it’s a virtual tie. Arapahoe (Swing County) – 4860 D, 5271 R – Election Day so far Over 83% of the vote was AB/EV – Dem: 75653 Rep: 75812

Somewhere around the time President Barack Obama and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie were standing in unison, while members of Team Romney reportedly were purchasing items to be given away at a fund-raiser for storm victims, it hit me. Somewhere around the time Donald Trump was bleating about the president missing the deadline and saying charities would suffer because of it — as if the money wasn’t Trump’s to do with what he pleases — it hit me.

Flashback 2008: job losses in free fall, a housing market boom gone bust and credit markets in crisis amid the Great Recession. Four years later, the U.S. economy continues to climb out of the hole that engulfed it at a still sluggish pace, and economists say it will take many months to regain all the millions of jobs lost. Since the darkest days of the recession, which began in December 2007 and ended June 2009, the job market has gone from losing a high of 818,000 jobs in January 2009 to adding jobs for 25 straight months

In 2011, the journalist Mara Hvistendahl published Unnatural Selection: Choosing Boys Over Girls, and the Consequences of a World Full of Men, detailing the societal effects of sex-selective abortions that target women the world over and resulted in the absence of perhaps more than 100 million girls who by now should have been born. But Hvistendahl soon learned the downside to uncovering what many believe to be a shocking trend in human rights offenses: people will want to do something about it. And so she lashed out, declaring that “anti-abortion activists

Neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson stepped down Wednesday as commencement speaker at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine after complaints from students about controversial comments concerning same-sex marriage. The withdrawal came less than a week after medical school Dean Paul B. Rothman chastised Carson for his comments and met with graduating students concerned that the famed physician was an inappropriate commencement speaker.

Is Anthony Weiner completely delusional? Or is he out of his flipping, sex-crazed gourd? Whatever big-busted fantasies crawl around the ex-congressman’s delirious noggin, la Weiner made his next goal as clear as the skin of the wholesome college students he craved: He relishes being Mayor Weiner. Please, shut up this clown. These days, the genitally obsessed Weiner has nothing much to do, except sit in his lavish Manhattan apartment and — the inhumanity! — change the poopy diapers of his 16-month-old son, Jordan. Worse, Weiner is living under a kind of house arrest, sentenced to take extreme grief

The Senate voted to move forward on gun control Thursday, clearing the first of what is expected to be many 60-vote hurdles for the legislation. (Snip) Sixteen Republicans voted in favor of the motion, while two Democrats — both from states President Obama lost in the 2012 election — voted against it. The two Democrats were Sens. Mark Begich (Alaska) and Mark Pryor (Ark.), both of whom face reelection next year. The 16 Republicans who voted to proceed were

Seven hundred Military Special Operations professionals. And one insistent and very angry Mom. This is becoming a deadly combination for the political game players in the Obama Administration. Sean Smith, the young State Department computer wizard who was brutally murdered that September night in Benghazi, was Pat Smith’s only child. Let’s say that again. Sean Smith was Mrs. Smith’s only child. To listen to her recent radio interview with another Sean… Sean Hannity… is to have the heart break.

Within the next few decades, carbon emissions could cause global temperatures to rise between 4 and 11 degrees Fahrenheit, melting ice caps and causing sea levels to rise. The price of crops like coffee and chocolate will skyrocket, and countless cuddly animals around the globe could be wiped out. And yet, a lot of people find it hard to really care about climate change. But don´t be fooled: Climate change will affect you. Here´s a brief sampling of ways that warmer temperatures will suck the fun out of your life: 1. Your flights will be more turbulent

Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.

Remember little Anthony Freemont, played by cute little Billy Mumy, in one of the "Twilight Zone´s" most famous episodes? In the opening sequence Rod Serling informs us: "A monster had arrived in the village. Just by using his mind, he took away the automobiles, the electricity, the machines -- because they displeased him -- and he moved an entire community back into the dark ages -- just by using his mind. . . . and the people there have to smile. They have to think happy thoughts and say happy things because once displeased, the monster can wish them into a cornfield

Since the murder trial of Pennsylvania abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell began March 18, there has been precious little coverage of the case that should be on every news show and front page. During a conversation about gun violence on MSNBC this morning, Vice President Joe Biden explained that there was a growing group of gun owners that might not understand guns as well as hunters. “There is a whole new sort of group of individuals now who – I don’t know what the numbers are – that never hunt at all,” Biden said. “But they own guns for one of two reasons, self-protection or they just like the feel of that AR-15 at the range. They like the way it feels.” Biden imitated holding a weapon and added, “You know,
