| Like most people, I reacted to the news that the EU had won the Nobel Peace Prize with a shout of delighted mirth. In picking this moment--just as the euro brings national antagonisms to a new high--the committee members have revealed a sublime comic genius. It is 40 years since, hearing that the award had gone to Henry Kissinger, Tom Lehrer declared 'satire is now obsolete'. Not even Lehrer at his most fanciful would have imagined the committee passing over Irena Sendler, who had repeatedly risked her life to save children from the Warsaw Ghetto, in favour of Al Gore.

Came down to a choice of the EU or Obama. Since the Nobel Committee wants to award Obama in 2013 whether he is reelected or not, it selected the equally undeserving EU. Obama will receive Peace Prize in 2013 to either insult a President Romney or to acknowledge the unprecedented achievement that BO is the first black president to be reelected in US history. And to quote our VP, That's not malarkey, folks.

The Nobel Prize was originally intended to reward a person or persons for a lifetime of work culminating in a great achievement. Today it represents one square on a roll of toilet paper.

COLUMBIA—South Carolina’s unemployment agency will lay off 100 employees in June as part of a statewide reorganization that directs anyone seeking jobless benefits to use its upgraded online system, the agency’s interim director announced. John Finan said the Department of Employment and Workforce will eliminate one-on-one help with unemployment claims on June 10, and the number of local offices offering job training and other re-employment services will shrink. Exactly how many of those 56 offices remain open past June will depend on decisions made by the state’s 12 workforce investment boards, he said.

Pro golfers, golf writers, and TV commentators are up in arms that Tiger Woods was only given a 2-stroke penalty for his illegal drop on the 15th hole yesterday. Tiger said last night that he dropped his ball two yards behind his previous spot, clearly violating the rule that you must drop "as nearly as possible" to your original spot. Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.
