Spectators at a children's triathlon in Florida were brought to tears by the sight of Marines carrying a little boy with a broken prosthetic leg across the finish line. Bone cancer-survivor Ben Baltz, 11, was participating in his third triathlon of the summer when he had an accident with his prosthetic leg Sunday during the final portion of the race.

There's no group of people on the plantet like the Marines. I am so blessed to have spent 18.5 years as a Marine Wife Extraordinaire (still have the framed order to prove it). Next to my children, it's the best gift my husband ever gave me. What a beautiful, warm story. Marines do acts of heroism all the time, sometimes without even knowing. I remember once when my family attended a pool party at the Ambassador's residence. My daughter was about 5 and she couldn't swim at the time, so she wore one of those blowup rings. She was near the deep end of the pool and was caught up in the fun when I saw her, in slow motion, make a dive into the pool only to realize (by the look on her face) that she didn't have her ring. She landed in the water with a full look of panic. I was watching paralyzed as I saw it all play out. Before I could jump to my feet, one of the Marines grabbed her and pushed her over to the wall of the pool and went right back to playing volleyball. He was clueless that he'd just saved the life of his boss's daughter's. I almost fainted but My daughter went on to become an excellent swimmer. I never forgot Sam for saving my child.

When a brain tumor took away Dorothy Holm´s ability to speak, she picked up index cards and began filling them, edge to edge, with seemingly random, indecipherable sequences of letters. Her grandchildren saw her scribbling and thought she was leaving them a code — but it was one the preteens couldn´t crack. Eighteen years later, the puzzle has been solved after one of Holm´s granddaughters posted images of a card online. A sharply divided Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed Texas to continue enforcing abortion restrictions that opponents say have led more than a third of the state´s clinics to stop providing abortions. The justices voted 5-4 to leave in effect a provision requiring doctors who perform abortions in clinics to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. The court´s conservative majority refused the plea of Planned Parenthood and several Texas abortion clinics to overturn a preliminary federal appeals court ruling that allowed the provision to take effect. The four liberal justices dissented.

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports.
