The $5 trillion tax cut that isn’t
Washington Post, by Robert J. Samuelson

Original Article

Posted By:Pluperfect, 10/11/2012 5:38:44 AM

Let’s review again the math of Mitt Romney’s proposed tax cuts to show why — contrary to the rhetoric from President Obama’s campaign — they do not amount to a $5 trillion tax cut for the rich. We all understand that campaigns involve self-serving exaggerations, simplifications and partial truths. But if politics is to retain any integrity, a line must be drawn at statements and innuendoes that are demonstrably false. That’s happened here. The Obama campaign has distorted the results of a study by the Tax Policy Center, a nonpartisan research group, and created a fictitious $5 trillion tax cut.

On one hand, I'd say Obama's in deep doodoo when his lemmings in the mainstream media start dropping little tidbits like this one.
On the other hand, Samuelsons statement that "News organizations peddling this line have unwittingly enlisted in the Obama campaign" contains one glaring error....the word "unwittingly".

What this article and most others fail to consider is that lower rates will allow businesses to hire more people, lower the unemployment rate, and have more people employed and paying taxes. In virtually every circumstance where the federal government lowered tax rates, including the Bush tax cuts of 2003, revenues have increased. Lowering rates will also create an atmosphere where businesses will not leave the country to re-locate to a country with lower rates (which includes almost any country in the world).

I haven’t talked to my former roommate Patti in years. But it only took Bill Bartmann, a veteran of the debt collection industry, minutes to pull up her name and the address of the house we shared in the early 1990s. Less than a day after I asked Bartmann to see what he could find about me, he provided me with a long list of the addresses of places I’d lived over the years -- including my college dorm address, which I would be very hard pressed to recall myself. He also dug up a list of relatives and details about

The Omaha World-Herald has two big stories up today that might impact the hotly contested Nebraska Republican Senate primary between former Bush administration official and Midland College president Ben Sasse and former state treasurer Shane Osborn. Osborn has a notable and distinguished military record as a former Navy lieutenant commander. Most famously, in April 2001, the EP-3 reconnaissance aircraft he was flying was struck by a Chinese fighter plane. Osborn managed to land the plane safely, but in Chinese territory. This sparked the first of many foreign policy crises during the Bush administration. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for

Everything changed with the fall of the Soviet Union, but that history was never truly erased. Environmentalists need Mary Landrieu, but they don´t love her—and they´re proving it with their checkbooks. Louisiana´s Democratic senator and Republican Rep. Bill Cassidy are locked in a Bayou battle that will go a long way in determining whether Democrats can hold their imperiled Senate majority, a force that has proved an implacable bulwark against a steady stream of House Republican attacks on environmental regulations. But that hasn´t convinced the environmental lobby´s heavy hitters to cut checks for Landrieu. In the past year, only one environmental organization has donated to her campaign. The Baton Rouge-based Center for Coastal Conservation gave Landrieu a $2,500

Berlin - German customs officials have intercepted a package addressed to the Vatican containing 14 condoms filled with cocaine, the finance ministry said Sunday. A ministry spokesman told AFP that a box packed with 340 grammes of cocaine valued at 40,000 euros ($55,200) was seized at the international airport in the eastern city of Leipzig in January. The narcotics, posted from an unnamed South American country, were in liquid form and had been poured into the condoms and placed in the package addressed to the main postal centre at the Vatican. Russia’s “gay propaganda” law that makes it illegal to tell children about gay rights is linked to the nation’s takeover of Ukraine’s Crimea, Vice President Joe Biden said Saturday night. Speaking at a gala in Los Angeles for the gay rights group Human Rights Campaign, Biden suggested countries that don’t respect the rights of gays, lesbians and transgender people also disregard borders. “As the great Soviet dissident Andrei Sakharov said, ‘A country that does not respect the rights of its citizens will not respect the rights of its neighbors,’ and we´re seeing that today, we´re seeing that today in Ukraine,”

PERTH, Australia — France on Sunday provided Malaysia with satellite images of objects that could be from a passenger jet that has been missing for more than two weeks, the latest word of such images that officials are hoping will help solve one of the world’s great aviation mysteries. The images show “potential objects in the vicinity of the southern corridor,” Malaysia’s Ministry of Transport said in a statement. That is thought to be close to areas of the Indian Ocean where previous satellite images released by Australia and China showed objects that could be debris from Malaysia Airlines Flight 370,

WASHINGTON-- Mitt Romney says President Barack Obama could have done more to persuade Russia not to annex Crimea. Romney says Obama didn´t have the foresight to anticipate Russia´s intentions. During the 2012 presidential race, Romney took criticism from Obama for saying Russia was America´s "number one geopolitical foe" - not al-Qaida. Now Romney is using Russia´s action in Crimea as a way to sort of say "I told you so." Romney tells CBS´s "Face the Nation" that Obama´s "naivete" and "faulty judgment" about Russia has led to a number of foreign policy challenges. Romney says the U.S. should have worked

Members of an American documentary film crew, visiting the southeastern Ukrainian city of Mariupol last week and stumbling upon a pro-Russian rally downtown, narrowly escaped with their lives as the crowd cursed and chased the Americans and violently attacked their minivan. The vehicle barely got away. Such views are surely not held uniformly across Ukraine, but among ethnic Russians, and in the heart of the former Soviet Union, a palpable anti-American sentiment is discernible -- and it is, to some extent, the product of determined efforts by Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin apparatus he controls. A few weeks ago, I wrote about how the sweeping acceptance of gay marriage in recent years is owed in large part to Christianity. Rejecting the rigidly hierarchical and stratified societies of the ancient world, Jesus Christ taught the equal dignity of all persons, proclaimed that the meek shall inherit the earth, and declared that the last shall be first and the first shall be last. The Western world has been working out the logic of these subversive teachings ever since, with the institutional transformation of marriage being the latest, though surely not the last, example of its social, moral,

That goes beyond hypocritical, and I think the American media and the international media has every right to call her and the Obama administration on that — that they permitted that to happen,” said Tom Whalen, a political history professor at Boston University. “It makes you shake your head, albeit sadly.” The first lady stopped at Peking University in Beijing yesterday

In a constituent meeting gone awry that was captured on shaky, amateur video, embattled Rep.
