An ‘Appropriate’ fiasco
New York Post, by John Podhoretz

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 10/11/2012 5:27:58 AM

At yesterday’s incendiary, four-hour hearing in Washington, congressional Republicans ripped into two high-ranking State Department officials who struggled to explain away the administration’s utterly baffling behavior before and after the murder of four Americans in Benghazi on Sept. 11. The spectacle was agonizing. The officials — Charlene Lamb and Patrick Kennedy — basically said everything they’d done before the terror assault and everything the administration had said afterward was appropriate, “based on what was known at the time.” Lamb and Kennedy said they’d done the right thing as they sat next to two security experts

Comments:
It seems to me that Benghazi will be the final stake in Obama's reelection bid. How differently he might have been perceived by the country if immediate action had been taken during those hours of battle. The ambassador and others might not have been saved, but the ongoing dumb regard for Libya's feelings doomed any idea that Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton can move quickly and decisively in an emergency.

John Podhoretz knocks it out of the ball park. Excellent summation of the incompetent handling of a very sad chapter. Should be a Must Read. Maybe it will help some people sitting on the fence.
FTA: Obama and his people went for the YouTube play. In so doing, they not only deceived the American people and inappropriately deferred blame, they inflicted on themselves an entirely unnecessary wound.

FTA "It’s unclear why these career civil servants, who are not beholden to the president for their employment, felt it necessary to defend an Obama appointee’s shockingly misleading and now entirely discredited talking points"

No, it's very clear. The State Dept is to the left of even the Obammies.

IMHO, there is more to this video angle than has been dredged up so far. Something evil is going on, besides the "self-evident" 9/11 anniversary terror attacks.

The State Department was following the Obama book for the election. Obama wants to run as the bin Laden killer and the one that destroyed al-Qaeda with the deaths in Benghazi there goes his foreign policy chops. The coverup was pure politics.

Here we have the umpteenth "well, can you imagine that?" moment. Yes, I can imagine. It would be inexplicable if we had a patriot in the White House. We don't. We need to look at the cumulative effect of what Obama's policies (strangely they are policies) have wrought. I'm afraid that what we fear Obama is doing to the Middle East is true. It is also no accident.

Patrick Kennedy should be made to resign along with Lamb. She heard that going on for 6 hours and STILL she lied and took the Obama message to the nation along with Hillary and Rice and others..... I also was happy when Issa told the 2 whistle blowers..I hate that label... if they had any problem with their careers to come back..they will be protected...
They were brave to to step up..
I hope Bite-me tries to explain this away tonight...Ryan will nail him..
I too felt like crying thinking about the fear they must have felt in those 6 hours with the animals coming at them...

This same State Department and government sent the USS Cole into Aden Harbor in Yemen because it was striving for normal relations with terrorists. After the attack and deaths President Clinton thought this was a crime and sent in the FBI?

So, October 11th, and twelve years after the 17 Cole sailors were killed, the local in charge of security in our embassy there is murdered by the same Islamic hatred.

The hearing yesterday proved again that you can't have a successful foreign policy by lying, wishing and hoping.

Considering his favorite Uncle is a member of an Al Qaida affiliated organization, and that he appears to wear a ring that is inscribed with the Shahada, the Islamic call to faith, his behavior is understandable if he is an Islamic Agent.

After we get rid of this bum, we'll have to start the War on Terror all over again. Every gain Bush and our courageous volunteer Armed Forces made has been negated.

And yes I do read WND. Try it. The stories today are quite enlightening.

They need to keep asking who told them that the video was the reason for this. Who put that story out there and why. Lamb watched in real time and still went with the video story. These are the keepers of America's security. Sad times for America when the top security people lie and the media won't report it because it might harm the very person who is setting up the lies. It is just stunning to me that this is not the headline on every newspaper and TV newscast.

Libyan authority said it was a terrorist attack, other other foreign sources knew it was a terrorist attack even right after the event. So why did President Obama and his administration call it a riot cause by a video? Even after the event and the evidence showed it was a terrorist attack, they continue to call it a riot. Obama on TV and at the United Nation refered to the attack as a reaction to the video. I guess Obama was to busy campaigning to attend any national security meeting. Oh yes, bin Laden is dead and Al Qaeda is no more! WRONG! Americans lost their lives because campaigning is more important than national security

Like most everyone here, i watched the c-span spectacle and i vascillated between rage and tears.

Charlene Lamb said they watched the events in "real time." And yet, she would not nor would Kennedy admit the plain fact: this was terrorism.

When questioned point blank about the nature of the attack, they could not and would not say the words. It was shocking and horrifying to watch... in real time.

Now think back to Hillary's various performances: that languid, slow, painfully articulated rationalization.

Years ago, when Clinton was finishing up his second term, it became clear that the media had discovered that they could be much more active "players" in politics. I remember telling Hubby that we'd see more of this and more extensively and that this would be the real danger for our Republic.

We now have about half of the citizenry who DO NOT HAVE A CLUE. I have an intelligent cousin, but she is completely ignorant because she relies on the so-called MSM.

This is why Ryan and Romney absolutely must bring this up, attack the "video" meme, tell the truth, expose the quislings.

Will bloviator Biden bring up BO's foreign policy "successes"?

All is utterly outrageous. We are, as we here have said since 2008, we are in great peril.

The State department has been a thorn in America's side for a long time. The combination of the Obama gang and the State department is almost more than the republic can bear. I did not find the testimony "baffling". It appeared to me that the two bureaucrats were in cover-up mode, particularly Mr Kennedy, a piece of scum. How can a person who has no memory of anything be in a high ranking position. No, he was just lying, and under oath. At least Ms Lamb showed emotion, whether because she was under stress, or she knows the two of them are lying, or she really feels empsthy for the dead men and their families, or a combination. It apeared to me that Mr Issa was WAY too kind to them.
At least some of the Congresspeople let loose. We need Mrs Clinton to testify under oath, but you watch Obama insulate her.

I do not entirely agree with the author. If the President had admitted it was a terrorist attack, that would have undermined his whole
tact, having ridden the killing of OSB to state that the terrorist organizations were decimated and incapable of inflicting harm on the U.S. His own line of B.S. would have gone into the cesspool. Either way, his talking points were proven false.

Obama would not give permission for four months to get Osama when they knew where he was...Thus Panetta, Gates, Clinton went ahead without telling him...or Brennan...And informed Obama on the Golf course.

In light of the story that me forth yesterday from Corsi, with pics of Obama's ring, and a Duke professor translation of the inscription...that reads "there is no god but Allah"....

Perhaps many should rethink Obama's national security claims....He s a fraud and a lar.

Cheney added the current North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, is unpredictable and doesn´t share the United States worldview. One lawmaker present at the session, Rep. How many federal agencies does it take to do catfish safety inspections? At least three, according to the Government Accountability Office, which on Tuesday released its 2013 report on fragmentation and duplication of federal programs. This year´s report -- there were two previous editions of the report first requested by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla. -- documents an estimated $95 billion in duplicative programs that waste precious tax dollars. That brings the three-year total of potential savings documented by GAO to $295 billion. WASHINGTON — Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. showed up late at an event last week, saying he was delayed because “the president keeps those meetings going longer.” But he walked into a Hillary Clinton crowd. Outside, supporters hoisted signs urging her to run for president. Inside, she was greeted as a hero. Not that Mr. Biden was an afterthought. He had plenty of friends in the room. But at the Kennedy Center, where women’s achievements were being honored by an organization Mrs. Clinton helped found, even Mr. Biden recognized that the best applause line belonged to her.

The Myth of the Falling Bridge

There´s more than a touch of Chicken Little in common arguments for more infrastructure spending. "The bridges are falling, the bridges are falling!" Every four years, the American Society of Civil Engineers issues the U.S. an infrastructure "report card." And, just as predictably, it says that U.S. infrastructure is decrepit and needs expensive new investments. The latest one, released last month, gave the nation a D+ grade and recommended an extra $1.6 trillion in spending by 2020. Are American bridges actually falling, though? Is the U.S. underinvested in infrastructure? Maybe it´s going too far to say,

Obama’s drone war kills ‘others,’

WASHINGTON — Contrary to assurances it has deployed U.S. drones only against known senior leaders of al Qaida and allied groups, the Obama administration has targeted and killed hundreds of suspected lower-level Afghan, Pakistani and unidentified “other” militants in scores of strikes in Pakistan’s rugged tribal area, classified U.S. intelligence reports show. The administration has said that strikes by the CIA’s missile-firing Predator and Reaper drones are authorized only against “specific senior operational leaders of al Qaida and associated forces” involved in the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks who are plotting “imminent” violent attacks on Americans.

Pryor was elected in 2002 and re-elected six years later, while Landrieu was first elected to the Senate in 1996 and was re-elected in both 2002 and 2008. Landrieu has had the closer races, winning with only 52.1 percent in 2008, 51.7 percent in 2002 and 50.2 percent in 1996 against a series of challengers who have ranged from weak to not bad. Pryor, the son of a former governor and senator, was first elected to the Senate with almost 54 percent, when he defeated a sitting Republican senator.

I am always amazed — amazed — when anyone has the gall to dismiss, even laugh off, the suggestion that the right to keep and bear arms is a smart and necessary provision for a free society. Human history (not to mention current events!) is too chock-full of examples of nefarious regimes violently abusing and controlling their people, and the freedoms enjoyed by American citizens are the exception, not the rule. During a committee hearing of the Oregon state senate in considering their own state package of gun-control legislation last week, one testifier reminded the assembled lawmakers of one

A few years ago I interviewed a handyman to do some work on my house. I noticed a teardrop tattoo at the top of his left cheek. Prior to hiring him, I searched online for what this design signified. My mouth dropped when I found out. A teardrop tattoo can mean he murdered someone. So I hired someone else. Plastic surgeons and dermatologists are seeing more and more people who want their tattoos removed, often because they worry that the tattoos could cause problems with employment. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS),

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell largely is being ignored by the mainstream media, even in the face of grisly testimony, such as what we heard yesterday. Life News reports: ...a former employee described how she heard a baby scream during a live-birth abortion. Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Efforts by Senate Democrats to reach compromise with Republicans over expanding required federal background checks have yet to yield an agreement, and conservatives were promising to try

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

More than 700 Special Operations veterans are urging members of Congress to back a select committee to investigate last year’s Benghazi terrorist attack, according to a letter first obtained by Fox News. The letter from the group, “Special Operations Speaks,” supports the appointment of a special committee tasked with the single mission of investigating the attack that left Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans dead, and shut down the CIA operation in an annex of the Benghazi consulate, in the Sept. 11, 2012 attack. “Congress must show some leadership and provide answers to the public

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

The case of a same-sex Connecticut couple accused of repeatedly raping and abusing two of their nine adopted boys is headed for trial. Married couple George Harasz and Douglas Wirth of Glastonbury were supposed to be sentenced Friday in Hartford Superior Court under a plea deal, but instead withdrew from their agreement with prosecutors. The men had already pleaded no contest in January to one felony count each of risk of injury to a minor — a reduction from even more serious charges related to sexual assault....

More than six months since Ambassador Christopher Stevens was assassinated by terrorists in Benghazi, the Obama administration is still trying to keep a lid on information about the attack. Congress and the American people need to know what happened the night of Sept. 11, 2012. Who did the killing and what was their motive? Why wasn´t help sent? And why did the administration lie about who was responsible? Members of Congress have asked hundreds of questions at hearings conducted by several investigative committees, but many of the most significant have been left unanswered.
