Two traditionally Black colleges in my area have been decimated because talented Black prospects bypass them, and go on to enroll in, and often fail out of "White" schools.

I love the last paragraph - so many of us have been trying to tell decision makers this for years - I guess the "moderates" have finally opened their eyes.
Sander is mostly liberal in his politics and Taylor less so but not a conservative. They have, you could say, been mugged by reality.* Or as they put it in Mismatch: “It is this growing body of evidence that has caused the present authors to slowly drift over the past 25 years toward greater sympathy with the abolitionists.”

So! Too much much well-meaning & displaced "help" actually does more harm than good. For an interesting read on the similar subject of good-intentions-gone-wrong, you can google the name of economist James Shikwati. He gave an interview to Spiegel where he said, "Africans are taught to be beggars and not to be independent. In addition, development aid weakens the local markets everywhere and dampens the spirit of entrepreneurship that we so desperately need. As absurd as it may sound: Development aid is one of the reasons for Africa's problems." Helping people too much ruins them.

Although the article is about students, the preference problem in higher education is also found in faculty hiring. The "need to diversify the faculty" often results in classes being taught by people who cannot speak English to the degree that is understandable to many students. Thus, an extra burden on all students.

No doubt, reparations will be forthcoming for all those thousands of white students who were deprived of opportunities based on merit alone.

Or will the leftist agenda just continue to skip merrily along damaging everything it touches....tra-la.

Authors claim that Affirm Act students under perform in more competitive classes, but:

Aren't professors under the same pressures as administrators and admissions officers? Don't they adjust grades accordingly. Could the real problem be that student's receive grades they never deserved? How does this affect a student's confidence?

#6 - grade inflation is rampant at most universities and colleges. And as for minority students, I know from experience that in many cases they are not allowed to fail. It doesn't matter if they know the material, fail their exams, etc. They will be passed. And I'll tell you what it does - it makes them angry, bitter, and turns them into wailing activists for more handouts. They blame everyone but themselves for their performance and never do anything to make up for their lack of knowledge.
