| A panel of three federal judges upheld a South Carolina law requiring voters to show photo identification, but delayed enforcement until next year, in a decision announced Wednesday, less than a month before this year's presidential election. (Snip) The judge declined to let the law take effect immediately, "given the short time left before the 2012 elections and given the numerous steps necessary to properly implement the law ... and ensure that the law would not have discriminatory" effect.

2013, huh? It never ceases to amaze me how doing the right thing can never happen immediately but the wrong way always gets a pass. It's judges like these that increasingly make the judiciary look irrelevant and dangerous to this republic.

In 2013, these judges will say another year on top of the 9 months that has gone by just isn't enough time for people to get an ID. I've always wondered: How do these people get welfare, food stamps, heap, section 8 housing, etc. etc. without an ID.

Yes, it is difficult, if not impossible, to implement a program as complex as requiring photo ID in a short period of time. Ask anyone who tried to board an airliner after 9/11/01. Just can't be done.....

I was just getting used to the idea that the judicial branch had the power to legislate. Now it seems they have also become the executive branch.
Certainly they have the power to decide if a law is constitutional, but who gave them the power to execute the law?

Four months later, she hurried out of Boston with her husband and four children, anxious to keep them safe after the deadly explosions near the finish line of the historic marathon she had just completed. "That really scared us," she said Tuesday. "My daughter was really upset, so we needed to be a family first and get back home."

Senate Democrats scrambled Tuesday to shore up support for a heralded bipartisan deal on background checks for gun sales as it became clear they do not have enough votes to pass it. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said the effort to pass gun-control legislation has "significant momentum." Tuesday night, he scheduled votes on background checks and eight other amendments for Wednesday afternoon. Each amendment will require 60 votes. It was unclear where supporters would find the 60 votes to stop a filibuster on background checks.

The sequester has been a major topic of discussion ever since Obama started using scare tactics to try and get his agenda passed. And since the sequester went into effect, we haven’t heard the end of it. White house tours were cancelled, even though the money saved from that is pocket change. (Snip) Yesterday DHS ordered a new supply of musical instruments including bagpipes and drums.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has twice turned over the entire list of Missouri concealed weapon permit holders to federal authorities, most recently in January, Sen. Kurt Schaefer said Wednesday. Questioning in the Senate Appropriations Committee revealed that on two occasions, in November 2011 and again in January, the patrol asked for and received the full list from the state Division of Motor Vehicle and Driver Licensing. Schaefer later met in his office with Col. Ron Replogle, superintendent of the patrol.

A Connecticut gun-maker announced on Wednesday it intends to leave the state, just six days after passage of restrictive gun control legislation, while two other manufacturers said they are considering relocation offers from other states. Manufacturers also plan to lobby the state´s congressional delegation next week "to make sure they hear from our side," said Mark Malkowski, president of Stag Arms in New Britain. Bristol-based PTR said in a statement posted on its website that it has not decided where it will move, but has commitments from most employees to relocate.

This just goes to show that even the best music in the world can turn ugly if sung too many times by your drunken boyfriend at his birthday party. A 23-year-old Colorado woman named Samantha Malson was arrested this weekend after she choked out her boyfriend for singing “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore over and over, even when she asked “25 times” for him to stop. Unfortunately, it was her lover’s 26th birthday that evening and the victim was wasted (as birthday boys tend to get), leading to an unfortunate altercation

For the season, ad-supported cable as a group has opened up a bigger ratings advantage over the Big Four – and has beaten the broadcasters in the 18-49 demo on a regular basis in a handful of timeslots. While the media are bearing the brunt of public skepticism over the handling of the Boston bombing, the behavior of government is also eroding public trust. Yesterday´s promised but cancelled news briefing is just one symptom. Andrew McCarthy of PJM notes that "Misinformation rather than enlightenment has been the order of the day in the investigation of Monday´s terrorist bombing of the Boston Marathon," and that part of it is the natural outgrowth of the desire of investigators to keep the details of their investigations secret, so as not to alert suspects.
