Squatter who moved in while they

A Detroit woman and her one-year-old daughter are being forced to live with a squatter in their own home until a housing court decides on eviction proceedings. Homeowner Heidi Peterson claims the squatter, former tenant Missionary-Tracey Elaine Blair, took over the residence while Peterson was away for a year during extensive home repairs. After the necessary repairs were complete, Peterson returned last week only find out that Blair had changed the locks. She had also taken the liberty to decorate the house, rework the plumbing and replace appliances. According to neighbors,

Can you imagine the level of rage you would have if this happened to you. I have read of several instances like this across this country. It is just outrageous what they are allowed to get away with.

Property rights are on life support in the USA. The dominos of freedom continue to fall.

Many (MANY) people in this country really don't believe in private property. Pay attention to what government does, especially in the area of zoning.

Ok it so the eviction is a civil matter. What was the basis for the Lien? And wouldn't that be fraud, a criminal matter?

Property rights are under assault because no one defends them. Throw the squatters out in the streets, club them, let them know it isn't safe to sleep, do whatever is necessary and dare any government to tell you whose rights are threatened. What is the problem? That's what the 2nd amendment is for.

This is unbelievable. This loser moves herself and (big shocker here) baby into a house owned by someone else and the law is on the side of the person who committed a B&E and is a trespasser. It just makes you want to weep. This country is a goner..

People don't care passionately about basic rights anymore. You've got wives who are more interested in watching soap operas or Ellen. You've got husbands who are more interested in watching the NFL matches on the TV. Everything is about voyeurism - ie watching. They'll watch while the Constitution is burned, too.

Actually, #5, the baby belongs to the homeowner. The Squatter is the Presidential Candidate. (You couldn't make this stuff up.)

No court should give one iota of credence to someone who moves into someone else's property. Maybe everyone should hang "POSTED" signs on their homes.

I would kill the squatter and bury them in them in the back yard I dig the hole really deep and then plant a tree on top of the body. Then I'd just not tell anyone.

Am I psychotic? This would not bother me at all.

OP, I've had to endure squatter situations like this more than once.

We bought a foreclosed rental property five months, and tomorrow (supposedly) will finally take possession. In the meantime, the tenant has lived rent-free while we pay the mortgage, property tax, and utilities.

Housing court is rife with stories like this. You have legal title to a property, but the right of possession is at the whim of the housing court judge.

Unfortunately, this is the norm in the northeast. I'm told that in some states (ie, Texas) this sort of behavior not tolerated. Makes be want move there.

This s part of the outsized entitlement mentality that's sprung up since lawless Obama took over. They see him bypassing and ignoring laws,so why shouldn't they. One thing I don't get here is how the squatter could live in the house while being repaired but the owner couldn't?

The squatter probably doesn't have a kid to use as a springboard for welfare. These people adore Obama but miss the fact all his spending is going to white liberals, because they donate.

If you have a deed to the property and pay the taxes, what right does anyone have to move into your house even if it sits empty for several years. Why is this even an issue. Why can't these people call the police and have them thrown out. This country gets crazier by the day.

I know of one squatter who took up residence while the house was being redone. The house was bought as an investment remodel, not as a primary residence - although it was in a very residential neighborhood. The property owner was nice about it and instead of coming on strong arm and starting proceedings, gave the guy time to go back, get his things, get it together, and get out. The guy went back and completely destroyed the newly remodeled kitchen.

Years ago, a friend of mine bought a home in Costa Rica. He was approached one day by a man who enlightened him about squatters who will move in while you're back in the states and offered 'make sure' that didn't happen-for a fee of $25/months which he agreed to. When he returned a few months later, that same man was squatting in his home . It took some a long time and the services of yet another colorful local to get him removed.
We are a becoming a third-world country.

The need for this and any squatter to be forcefully ejected from the premises with extreme prejudice and expediency aside.

If you have an unoccupied property, be sure to have someone check on it regularly.

Not sure what the regs. for Detroit is but in many places they've got to squat without objection/permission from the owner for 10 years before they can make any legal claim on the property.

Left-wing magazine Mother Jones made news this week with a report based on a secret recording of a Feb. 2 meeting of Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell with campaign strategists. Federal and state law prohibits publication of information acquired through secret recording, but a 2001 Supreme Court ruling gives publishers like Mother Jones a get-out-of-jail-free card. But whoever taped the private conversation can’t wiggle off the hook so easily. Whoever bugged the meeting room or secretly placed a recording device will be in serious legal trouble — unless he or she was one of the strategists.

The state of California is reportedly considering legislation that would force group insurance policies to provide infertility treatment for gay and lesbian couples. Two men who have sex with each other for a year and do not produce a baby would be considered “infertile” under the proposed legislation. So would two women having sex. Since biology does not allow those without a uterus to conceive or those without a penis to impregnate, every year-long gay couple in California would potentially be covered by this new provision of California law.
