| Camille Paglia, art historian, culture critic, founding Salon columnist and expert provocateur, has a new book out, “Glittering Images: A Journey Through Art from Egypt to Star Wars” that looks closely at 29 wide-ranging works — paintings to sculpture to performance art to digital art — that she sees as defining works of art. And for the voluble and volatile Paglia, the lean precision of the book is a marvel. Each work is paired with a relatively short and compulsively readable essay, a format she writes was inspired by “Catholic breviaries of devotional images, like Mass cards

Comments: Provocative comments about the candidates and the Parties. Fun read. You may disagree with her, but she's always worth reading.

One of my all-time favorite people, Miss Paglia.

I may not agree with her politics, but she is not only smart and honest. Proof, FTA: " I’m remaining a registered Democrat because I still hope for the reform of my party." That is proof that she is an honest women.

I only occasionally agree with Ms. Paglia, but I'll read any column she writes.

She's a fool and a twit. She can vote for a Green Party nutjob but not Mitt Romney. Something to do with Newt and Santorum. Very deep and INTELLECTUAL. A fool.

Back in the day, I was a huge fan. She failed to make the transition to the new millenium, and I don't think she was even writing her own columns for a while.
OK I've scanned most of the Salon article here down to the political section and - this is just a confused old lesbian, this is not the same person who wrote Sexual Personae or all those great columns that made Salon respectable, back in the early days of the Interwebs.

In the interview she's got good thoughts about the horror of Obamacare.
Her unique mix of ideologies is always refreshing.

Not for the first (or even the hundredth time), I'm with #1.
Forget Camille Paglia's screwy politics. She is always entertainingly provocative. Reading her sinewy animadversions on the "prudish" feminists like Naomi Wolfe (with her new faux modest striptease of a "biography" of the vagina) causes me to put away anything liquid that I intend to gulp down my throat when Ms. Paglia's words might cause said liquid to spew painfully through my sinuses and into my keyboard.
From the interview: The anti-porn feminists have always been visual illiterates. If you’re used to looking at nudes in Greek sculpture and Renaissance, Baroque, and nineteenth century French painting, you’re not going to be that alarmed by what’s called pornography.
Those are not the words of a moralistic prude, to say the least! Christopher Hitchens, who like Ms. Paglia, is one whose spiritual proclivities I do not share. And yet these two oddly antagonistic intellectuals do not have to be correct to be illuminating or, especially, entertaining. Reading both, most of us can separate the chaff from the chaff, hoping to find a molecule of wheat somewhere in there. I say with a knowing wink that the process of discovery can be as entertaining as hell. As poet Wallace Stevens concluded in stately blank verse in "Sunday Morning": "Downward to darkness on extended wings." Those who are perishing can be beautiful, too. What a wonderful world.

Her politics can be summarized as follows:
Dick Cheney is a war monger. If I repeated the "no WMD found in Iraq" meme long enough, I might actually believe it. It's my way on how the Democratic Party should be or I take my vote elsewhere to spite you.
In other words, she is a typical, not avantgarde leftist.

Refreshingly candid assessment of her own team, but still a conservative hating bigot. Note the torrent of facts and cultural allusions supporting every assertion, except for her bare expression of hatred for Cheney, Santorum and Gingrich.

On his Friday show, syndicated talk show host Mark Levin said that a Republican congressman is attempting to persuade one of his affiliates to remove his show from the airwaves. Although Levin would not offer the congressman’s name on air, he has been a vocal critic of various members of the House Republican leadership in the past. But Levin called the situation “fascism.” “Well, it has come to my attention that there is a Republican congressman out there who doesn’t like what I’ve been saying,” Levin said. “It has come to my attention that there is a

Pro golfers, golf writers, and TV commentators are up in arms that Tiger Woods was only given a 2-stroke penalty for his illegal drop on the 15th hole yesterday. Tiger said last night that he dropped his ball two yards behind his previous spot, clearly violating the rule that you must drop "as nearly as possible" to your original spot. Golf people are not happy about it. They say that the new rule is B.S. (or it´s at least being misinterpreted), and Tiger should DQ himself to save the integrity of the game.

Few Americans can not answer this question: who is the worst domestic mass murderer in United States’ history? Due to the United States media, most are aware that Timothy McVeigh slaughtered 168 people with a bomb in 1995. Most Americans also know the names of our three most monstrous serial killers: “The Green River Killer” Gary Ridgeway, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy. The U.S. media is again responsible for the general awareness of these men; these stories deserved — and received — national attention due to our common interest in personal safety, the rule of law

Here is something I don’t understand: liberals are often revealed as vile, vulgar hatemongers–not all of them, of course, but far too many–yet they never seem to pay a penalty at the polls. Why is that? Margaret Thatcher’s death has been the latest occasion for the Left to show its true stripes. All across the U.K., there have been demonstrations–vulgar at best, and violent at worst. In Bristol, lefties celebrating a Thatcher “death street party” started fires, destroyed property and battled police: This evening in Trafalgar Square, liberals have turned out for a long-planned celebration of Thatcher’s death:

According to an ABC News report, senators from the bipartisan “Gang of Eight” pushing immigration reform are expected to drop their bill, estimated at around 1,500 pages, on Tuesday, mere hours before the only scheduled Senate hearing on the topic. “A bipartisan group of senators plans to introduce its long-awaited immigration bill on Tuesday, Senate sources confirmed to ABC News,” Jim Avila and Jordan Fabian wrote on Friday. “Four Democrats and four Republicans, known as the ´Gang of Eight,´ wrapped up months of hard-fought negotiations this week and will put forth a bill that includes a pathway

Newtown killer Adam Lanza’s mother considered suing Sandy Hook Elementary School after teachers turned a blind eye to beatings from his classmates, a family member claims. The relative, speaking to the Daily News, claimed that mass murderer Lanza was taunted and attacked by fellow students at his childhood alma mater. “Nancy felt fiercely protective of him,” the relative said. “She was convinced the school wasn’t doing enough to protect Adam. It made her irate.” Nancy Lanza — gunned down by her 20-year-son to start his Dec. 14 rampage — even tagged along with Adam to school

Since he first became a presidential candidate, President Obama must have spent millions of dollars in legal expenses to combat dozens of so-called "birther" challenges seeking the original documents pertaining to his birth. As president, he famously issued an electronic document on the White House website in 2011; the document purported to be his long-form birth certificate, though it is apparently a forgery. In addition, he has taken great pains to hide the paper trail of passport records, college transcripts, and other data -- all of which a prospective employer might require of a job applicant.

ONE man here weighs just 77 pounds. Another, 98. Last thing I knew, I weighed 132, but that was a month ago. I’ve been on a hunger strike since Feb. 10 and have lost well over 30 pounds. I will not eat until they restore my dignity. I’ve been detained at Guantánamo for 11 years and three months. I have never been charged with any crime. I have never received a trial.

The impending introduction of legislation to overhaul the country’s badly strained immigration system received an extraordinary endorsement on Sunday from Senator Marco Rubio, Republican of Florida, who, after holding back for weeks, appeared on no fewer than seven television talk shows to explain and defend a plan that he said would be “a net positive for the country, now and in the future.” It was a striking show of confidence from Mr. Rubio, one of eight members of a bipartisan Senate group that has been crafting a plan to provide a path to legal status for undocumented immigrants;

President Obama and I were college classmate at Columbia University, class of ’83. I know all too well how mindlessly liberal the students and faculty of that institution can be, and Barack Obama is certainly no exception. My time at Columbia made it crystal clear: liberals always believe they are morally superior. [Snip] It is in this cesspool of intolerance that Obama and his Marxist cronies hatched a secret plan to destroy our country. There are two things you need to know about Obama at Columbia University. First, he was Pre Law and a Political Science major- just like me.
