| WASHINGTON - There's one key difference between Vice President Joe Biden and President Obama when it comes to debate prep: One enjoys it, and the other doesn't. "He's in a good mood, good shape, this is something he's done before, and he knows what he's doing," said former Delaware Senator Ted Kaufman, who has been helping to advise the vice president during the long hours in a Wilmington, Delaware hotel where they are getting ready for tomorrow's debate against Republican Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan in Danville, Kentucky. President Obama described debate prep as

Alfred "Plugs" Newman..."What, me worry?" It's good to see that SeeBS is still lugging those big jugs of water for the Dem ticket!! Truth be told, I think Joe will do better than his boss...but I think Ryan relishes a heated discussion on issues. And I think PR will smile his way through Joe's BS and give him some good whacks. After all, Ryan didn't seem to have any reservations about taking Our Dear Reader to the woodshed.

The "Happy Warrior" should be treated with the same "respect" he and his partner in crime, the late Senator Teddy Kennedy, extended to Judge Robert H. Bork during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings of 1987.

Why shouldn't Biden be happy? He thinks he's already won 6 debates in the past couple weeks. He may be thrown off-stride by a new venue and a different guy at the other lectern, though. We'll see.
Seriously, posters' cautions are well-advised. We are dealing with Democrats, remember. No chicken-counting yet. We all expect Ryan to do well, but he's also up against the moderator, network, media, and all the usual suspects.

President Barack Obama appears with a bull´s-eye on his head in a new English-language magazine published online apparently by Islamist militants, who also urge Muslims around the world to try to hack and manipulate American drones. "Wanted Dead Only. Barack Obama Mass Murderer. Reward: in the Hereafter," reads the full page poster that depicts a darkened image Obama as a target. Elsewhere in the 80-page tome, the magazine calls upon the "Ummah," the community of Muslims all over the world, to hack and manipulate U.S. drones, identifying drone attacks as "one of the utmost

Last year, when Tamerlan Tsarnaev spent six months in the Russian region of Dagestan, he had a guide with an unusually deep knowledge of the local Islamist community: a distant cousin named Magomed Kartashov. Six years older than Tsarnaev, Kartashov is a former police officer and freestyle wrestler—and one of the region’s most prominent Islamists. In 2011 Kartashov founded and became the leader of an organization called the Union of the Just, whose members campaign for sharia law and pan-Islamic unity in Dagestan, often speaking out against U.S. policies across the Muslim world. The group publicly renounces violence.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Apparently frustrated by a U.S. Supreme Court decision that struck down an $18 million penalty for a Texas natural gas firm, a federal judge is taking the unusual step of asking the environmental community for suggestions on how to sentence the company in a way that will have "the broadest possible impact." (Snip) In 2004, teenagers broke into the building and dumped mercury there and at a nearby apartment complex, which had to be evacuated. Many residents later were found to have unacceptably high levels of mercury in their blood and showed other symptoms of mercury exposure

Members of the Boko Haram militant group allegedly stormed a military compound and prison in northeastern Nigeria this week, killing dozens and freeing more than 100 prisoners. The coordinated attack is the latest in a series of violent assaults that have taken place since war broke out in 2009 between the extremist Islamist group and the Nigerian military, and observers say neither side shows sign of deescalating. "Heavily armed Boko Haram terrorists" launched the attack, which killed prison guards, policemen, soldiers, and civilians, according to Musa Sagir, the military spokesman in Maiduguri. According to Agence France-Presse, the militants

BALTIMORE — A long-awaited supermarket is finally coming to West Baltimore. As Christie Ileto explains, a 67,000 square foot grocery store ends what residents have long called the “food desert” in Howard Park. Ask any Howard Park resident where the nearest grocery store is and they’ll tell you: “We have to go across tracks to Food King or Security Boulevard,” said Anthony. “Oh, wow. You’re looking at a good mile either way,” said Donald Sterling. After 14 years without a grocery store, area residents relying on public transit will soon look no further than their front doors.

After the year that Matt Lauer has had, you might call it a win that he managed to sneak into the list of the “100 Most Trusted People in America,” as determined by Reader’s Digest magazine with the help of the Wagner Group, a market research firm. But look a little closer and it’s obvious that the well-documented internecine struggles at the “Today” show have taken their toll on Lauer’s nice-guy image. For one thing, only 41% of the more than 1,000 people surveyed said they trust Lauer. That’s the lowest number for any of the network news

When it first became clear that the CIA’s Benghazi talking points had been altered, many of us viewed the White House as the prime suspect. After all, it served President Obama’s political purposes to claim, at the height of a political campaign in which he was taking credit for the fall of al Qaeda, that the death of a U.S. ambassador was down to spontaneous outrage over a video, rather than pre-planned terrorism. It turns out, however, that the State Department was the prime culprit. It was State that pushed back hard against the original talking points.

Republican lawmakers, who have spent months seeking to tie President Obama to last year’s deadly attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, are increasingly focusing their probe on a new target: former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton. The GOP-led investigation of the Sept. 11, 2012, assaults that killed U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three others now centers heavily on the State Department and whether officials there deliberately misled the public about the nature of the assault. Three State Department officials are scheduled to testify before a House committee on Wednesday about the Benghazi attack and its aftermath.

Former Gov. Mark Sanford completed the trail to political redemption Tuesday with a win over Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch to reclaim his old seat in Congress. Sanford defeated Colbert Busch 54 percent to 45 percent, according to full unofficial results. Turnout was heavier than expected, with about 32 percent of the district’s 455,702 registered voters casting ballots. Sanford, who has never lost an election, returns to the 1st District seat he held for three terms from 1995-2001. There was tragic incompetence, plainly, in the Obama administration’s handling of the Benghazi attacks, and even possibly some political calculation. It is a record that may well come to haunt Hillary Clinton, the first Secretary of State to lose an ambassador in the field in more than three decades, if she runs for president in 2016. But the obvious Republican effort to turn this inquiry into the Democratic (Obama) version of the Iraq intelligence scandal that has tarred the GOP since the George W. Bush years -- led by that least-credible of champions, the almost-always-wrong Darrell Issa --

British physicist Stephen Hawking has dropped plans to attend a major international conference in Israel in June, citing his belief that he should respect a Palestinian call to boycott contacts with Israeli academics. The University of Cambridge released a statement Wednesday indicating that Hawking had told the Israelis last week that he would not be attending "based on advice from Palestinian academics that he should respect the boycott." University officials said they had "previously understood" that Hawking´s decision was based solely on health concerns — he is 71 and has severe disabilities — but had now been told otherwise by Hawking´s office.
