State Dept. Meltdown
at Benghazi Hearing

Commentary Magazine, by Alana Goodman

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 10/10/2012 5:48:35 PM

The Obama administration’s Benghazi response continued to unravel at the House Oversight Committee hearing today, as State Department officials struggled unsuccessfully to get their stories straight. Ambassador Patrick Kennedy defended UN Ambassador Susan Rice’s claim on September 16 that the attack was part of a spontaneous protest that erupted over an anti-Islam video, saying that anyone at the State Department would have said the same thing as Rice based on the intelligence available at the time. “If any administration official, including any career official, were on television on Sunday, September 16, they would have said what Ambassador Rice said.

Yep, because they are all equal opportunity liars.

Four+ hours. I am buoyed by a feeling of new confidence in our Republican leaders - starting with Darrell Issa, and including Gowdy, Rohrabacher, Burton, Chafetz (excuse any misspellings), and others on this committee who did an excellent job of digging deep re the Benghazi State Department debacle.

The other heroes were SST Lt. Colonel Woods (Utah National Guard) and Eric Nordstrom, the State Dept's security guy on the ground who was let down big time and talked about it.

Totally agree, #2! I watched some of this debacle and couldn't believe my ears at the lying coming from State. The 'Rats on the dais were trying to obfuscate by saying the budget was cut by the evil Republicans, so the deaths were on the hands of the majority in the House. Only after Chaffetz (sp) pointed out that there were 6,000 SSTs sitting in Iraq (which was, according to State, a secured and non-threatening country)why didn't State take the Libya threat seriously after 210 previous terrorist attempts on our embassy there? Romney should fire everyone at the State Dept. and replace them with our men and women retiring from the military. They at least have a clue as to what the dangers are.

Charlene Lamb specifically stated that it wasn't an issue with the budget. Oh and the look on her face when she was forced to admit that Al Queda was our number one enemy! It told volumes about how these leftist appeasers think. I urge all to watch the hearings replayed on C-Span tonight.

Marco Rubio and the so-called Gang of Eight’s push for comprehensive immigration reform has drawn sharp criticism from conservative skeptics. Perhaps foremost among them is Senator Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.), who has spent the last several weeks trying to galvanize his colleagues in an effort to warn of the potential pitfalls of an ill-conceived and under-scrutinized immigration bill. Sessions is not alone. Senate veterans such as Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa), the ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, as well as conservative newcomers such as Mike Lee (R., Utah), among others, have expressed concerns about the process,

Add to this the Clintons, Mississippi and a murky visa program, and you´ve got a particularly ripe political embarrassment for Terry McAuliffe. Everyone remember The Macker? Best Friend of Bill. Chairman of Hillary´s 2008 presidential campaign. Famed money-tree shaker. Former Democratic Party chief. Failed 2009 contender for the Virginia governorship but now back as the party´s nominee for that position in this fall´s election. There is something profoundly timid about President Obama’s proposed $3.8?trillion budget for 2014. Stripped of boasts about “investments” for the future and a responsible “balance” between deficit reduction and economic growth, the budget is a status-quo document. It lets existing trends and policies run their course, meaning that Obama would allow higher spending on the elderly to overwhelm most other government programs. This is not “liberal” or “conservative” so much as politically expedient and lazy. The trends are clear. From 2014 to 2023, the administration projects annual spending on Social Security to rise from $860?billion to $1.4?trillion,

While visiting City Hall the other day, Jimmy Carter volunteered that, if asked, he’d be more than happy to go back to North Korea to defuse Pyongyang’s nuclear saber-rattling. “I’ve been there three times so far,” said Carter. “But I never have been unless North Korea asked me to come and I got approval from the White House. If that should happen, I would be glad to go back.” And the Nobel Peace Prize winner proceeded to make his case for why Barack Obama and Kim Jong Un should do precisely that. “I know the people there very well,” he said.

The ongoing Slowest Recovery Ever has had our economy growing at only meager rates, and yet the federal government is about to collect record revenues — but President Obama’s budget is chock full of new ideas for still more taxes and still more government spending. The Office of Management and Budget reports that, under the president’s budget proposal, he’ll become the first-ever president to break the $4 trillion spending mark for a single year. Peachy, right? WASHINGTON -- A bipartisan immigration bill soon to be introduced in the Senate could exclude hundreds of thousands of immigrants here illegally from ever becoming U.S. citizens, according to a Senate aide with knowledge of the proposals. The bill would bar anyone who arrived in the U.S. after Dec. 31, 2011, from applying for legal status and ultimately citizenship, according to the aide, who spoke on condition because the proposals have not been made public. It also would require applicants to document that they were in the country before Dec. 31, 2011, have a clean criminal record

And about guns, no less. Arguendo, let’s presume that the much-vaunted Toomey-Manchin “compromise” makes it out of the Senate unalloyed, and then that it then passes the House with nary a squeak from the right. Let’s then postulate that a majority agrees with the president that expanding background checks is a “reasonable” thing to do — redolent of “a commonsense approach” — and that those of us with the temerity to oppose it will be widely painted as “extremists.”

David Corn, the Mother Jones writer who released the "secret tape" of a Mitch McConnell campaign meeting, might have broken the law by publishing information that appears to have been obtained illegally, according to sources. Asked about how the tape was obtained yesterday on TV, Corn said, "We did not make the tape. We were provided the tape. And that it is our understanding that the tape was not part of any Watergate style bugging operation, as Mitch McConnell has claimed it to be." But as details trickle out, it seems Corn might not have been particularly forthright about the tactics used.

After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”
