Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) decided not to run for re-election, and Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) was defeated in the GOP primary. The nonpartisan center for debate, research, education and policy about civility in public discourse was created at the University of Arizona in February 2011, in the aftermath of the Rep. Oh puleeze! Olympia Snow caused some of the "uncivil discourse" with her attitude. I'm glad she's gone here in Maine, but if she wants to be "civil" why isn't she helping Charlie Summers with his run for the USSenate here ? She's carrying a grudge! He didn't support her at one time and she's still mad but has loads of money in her Republican funds. Hypocrite!

Academics rushed to gain advantage when a loon killed several people. Probably a dozen such institutes at universities.
Their main activity will be to discuss matters with their colleagues at conferences held at such places as Bali and Rio several times a decade. Funding will ultimately be paid by the taxpayers.
The pols buy in because it can't hurt to have contacts. The more you have the more power you have. Even those retired with many millions run toward the aroma of power.

They're doing the old John McCain furrowed brow routine, addressing our side, which is reposnsible for about one-twentieth of the gratuitous uncivil discourse. This pair of supine and defunct pols from the Mausoleum Wing of the GOP are trying to assuage their own guilt over failing to call out the other side for their demagogic and dishonest rhetoric. The legislation would give provisional legal status to an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants and put them on a pathway to citizenship but only after a list of criteria for securing the U.S.-Mexico border are achieved. It sets goals of persistent surveillance in high-risk areas along the Southern border — sectors where more than 30,000 individuals are apprehended trying to enter the country illegally per year — and a 90-percent effectiveness rate for apprehensions in high-risk sectors.

Since he first became a presidential candidate, President Obama must have spent millions of dollars in legal expenses to combat dozens of so-called "birther" challenges seeking the original documents pertaining to his birth. As president, he famously issued an electronic document on the White House website in 2011; the document purported to be his long-form birth certificate, though it is apparently a forgery. In addition, he has taken great pains to hide the paper trail of passport records, college transcripts, and other data -- all of which a prospective employer might require of a job applicant.

The Saudi Arabian man who is reportedly in police custody following the Boston Marathon bombing was chased and tackled by bystanders shortly after the blast, according to CBS.
