Dr. Marc Lamont Hill and ‘Overrated White People’

| White privilege consists of being white. Black privilege consists of denouncing white people in ways that would be considered racist if the shoe were on the other foot. Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, a man whose website modestly describes him as a “Professor, Author, Speaker, Public Intellectual,” has assembled a list of what he believes are the 15 most overrated white people to prove the point. Any college faculty member who tried assembling a list of the 15 most overrated black people would soon be the target of the most overzealous witch-hunt since Salem.

Affirmative Action has done a terrible disservice to blacks. How can anyone take a successful black person seriously knowing they may be where they are in life due to AA?
As for MLH, he is a clown in a suit.

Surely Bill jests by inviting him on the show?

Marc Lamont Hill's greatest fault is wearing his skin on his sleeve instead of under it. I have no respect for academics and politicians whose race is their raison d'être. Have they never heard Dr. King's lapidary quotation that the content of one's character is more important than the color of one's skin? Racially obsessed blacks are just as irritating as racially obsessed whites. And, deep inside, just as evil. Public intellectual, my eye.

I found his list amusing, as I would most lists of this nature no matter who writes them. The bigger issue is I would bet that few white people really give a * about Dr. Marc Lamont's opinion and so are not offended - which is, in a way, a reflection of white privilege. It's kind of like it being nearly impossible to call a white person a name that will insult them - cracker or whatever. It's very hard to do because the rock solid societal self-worth is there.

I save this quote for just such an occasion:
Quote by: Booker T. Washington
(1856-1915) African American political leader, educator and author
Date: 1911 “There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping
the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before
the public. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his
grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs. There is a
certain class of race-problem solvers who don’t want the patient to
get well, because as long as the disease holds out they have not only
an easy means of making a living, but also an easy medium through
which to make themselves prominent before the public..”

One of the core functions of government is to defend the nation from all enemies, foreign and domestic — that’s part of the oath of enlistment that all service personnel take. But only a flinty, clear-eyed — and politically incorrect — assessment of all threats can enable the military can do its job. Today, however, the brass at the Pentagon seems hell-bent on turning the world’s most powerful military into an arm of the PC Police, a fresh field for “politically correct” bureaucrats on which to push their morally blind relativism.

A battle has been brewing in the Republican Party for some time, long before President Obama was re-elected this past November. On one side is the big business Washington establishment represented by K Street lobbyists and the Chamber of Commerce. On the other side are populist, main street, grassroots conservatives represented by the Tea Party and Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint. Few issues divide the Republican Party more clearly along these lines than immigration reform. And this week, the battle just got ugly.

“Counter-revolutionary” is an apt term for these days: President Obama has promised to make a fundamental transformation, a veritable revolution in American society and culture. Those who oppose such an ongoing agenda are suspected of all sorts of racism, nativism, misogyny, homophobia, and general counter-revolutionary activity. Sam Parnia MD has a highly sought after medical speciality: resurrection. His patients can be dead for several hours before they are restored to their former selves, with decades of life ahead of them. Parnia is head of intensive care at the Stony Brook University Hospital in New York. If you´d had a cardiac arrest at Parnia´s hospital last year and undergone resuscitation, you would have had a 33% chance of being brought back from death. In an average American hospital, that figure would have fallen to 16%

A man walks into a Jewish restaurant and asks the boss, “How do you prepare your chickens?” “We tell them up front they’re not going to make it,” he replies. To those Italians who voted for Beppo Grillo’s Five Star Alliance, or Greeks who support the Golden Dawn movement, or Jobbik Party voters in Hungary, among others: Permit me to tell you up front that you are not going to make it, either. In that speech of his, 30 years ago, Reagan said, I know this is a formidable technical task, one that may not be accomplished before the end of this century. Yet current technology has attained a level of sophistication where it’s reasonable for us to begin this effort. It will take years, probably decades, of effort on many fronts. There will be failures and setbacks, just as there will be successes and breakthroughs. Yes — failures and setbacks, and successes and breakthroughs. How patient have people been with the failures and setbacks?

The economist Thomas Sowell has just released a new book entitled Intellectuals and Race. (Snip) AmSpec: In the book you have a definition of “multiculturalism.” Can you talk about that and its implications? Sowell: The central premise of multiculturalism is that no culture is superior to another. The proponents of this draw conclusions such as it is wrong for school teachers to insist that black kids from the ghetto speak standard English. The idea that no culture is superior is another fact-free premise. If you look at the actual history of any society, they borrow from other societies.

The economist Thomas Sowell has just released a new book entitled Intellectuals and Race. The American Spectator sat down with him recently for a lengthy interview. In this first part of the interview, we discuss some of the causes of differences between ethnic groups, and how intellectuals in the early 20th century viewed race versus intellectuals today. (Snip) AmSpec: One of the things that comes across in the book is that it’s possible different racial groups will have different outcomes but those differences may be in no way related to genetics. So, what are the causes of difference?

A coalition of Eagle Scouts, Scoutmasters, and parents have launched a new organization vowing to keep sex and politics out of the Boy Scouts of America. “The Boy Scouts are one of the great jewels of American culture,” said John Stemberger, an Eagle Scout and the founder of OnMyHonor.net. Representatives from more than a dozen states gathered in Florida to announce the opposition to any attempt to allow open homosexuality in the BSA. The BSA is expected to offer a proposal that would remove the national rule banning open homosexuality -- and replacing it with a local option.

Oh, what a paradise….well, until you actually experienced the “worker’s paradise,” as the communists proudly called it, in real life. (Snip) What do you expect from a dentist on a salary set by the state’s pay scales? The sequester may have many across the country singing the blues, but for President Obama, it was all about Memphis Soul. In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

Although the first votes on gun -control legislation have yet to be cast, by some measures the National Rifle Association has already won. Obama’s ambitious plans to ban assault weapons and limit magazine capacities are off the table, while the NRA suggested it could support the most likely outcome -- expanded background checks -- as recently as 1999. The NRA claims that the president’s efforts have triggered a fundraising surge and boosted its membership from 4 million to nearly 5 million.
