Rep. Matheson remains silent on
Eric Holder and down in the polls

Washington Times, by Kerry Picket

Original Article

Posted By:shalimar, 10/10/2012 12:40:51 PM

Mia Love, the Republican nominee for Utah's 4th Congressional District, has pulled ahead of Democratic incumbent Rep. Jim Matheson in the polls. According to the latest Desert News/ KSL, Love, the mayor of Saratoga Springs, is polling 6 points ahead of Congressman Matheson. Matheson is the only Democrat in the Utah congressional delegation and attempts to distance himself from his party, given the remarkably conservative district he represents. Although he voted against the the original health care law in 2010, he voted with the Democrats in January of 2011 against the repeal of the health care law.

Comments:
Mia Love is up 49-43 in the latest poll!!!

Thanks OP, good news indeed. Off topic, but my son and his family live in Saratoga Springs. They moved there from Seattle four years ago. My son and his wife vote conservative, but they kind of look at me a little a little bewildered when I get going about politics. Anyway, my DIL is in town for business and SHE started talking about how she has started listening to talk radio and she sounds like a mini-me...LOL. And of course, they are voting for Mia Love.

I heard the dem say Love was lying about his vote for obamacare. If he didn't vote for it in the original vote and voted against repealing it, that's a vote for it. So, who's lying? If he's in a conservative district, those conservatives surely know he will lie to get elected and then magically turn into a liberal democrat. It's what they do.

All those groups trying to get the “young, invincible” 20-somethings to sign up for Obamacare health insurance have identified a secret weapon. Mom. Advocacy groups from “Moms Rising” to AARP are working to reach the healthy, young adults who don’t think they need insurance — and their mothers who think they do. The groups plan to use everything from paid advertising — to guilt.

In a major victory for murder suspect George Zimmerman, a judge today ruled that prosecutors may not put on the witness stand at his trial two state audio experts who say the voice heard screaming in the background of a 911 call was someone other than Zimmerman. The judge had heard three days of testimony about the science used by the state´s experts and ruled that it failed to meet Florida´s legal standard....Both witnesses are now banned from Zimmerman´s trial, which began two weeks ago with jury selection.

John Boehner won´t back immigration

House Speaker John Boehner is not going to bring a comprehensive immigration-reform plan to the floor if a majority of Republicans don´t support it, sources familiar with his plans said. "No way in hell," is how several described the chances of the speaker acting on such a proposal without a majority of his majority behind him. Boehner, R-Ohio, does not view immigration in the same vein as the fiscal cliff last December, when he backed a bill that protected most Americans from a tax increase even though less than half of the GOP lawmakers were with him ...

A new rule issued late Friday requires state, federal and local agencies as well as health insurers to swap the protected personal health information of anybody seeking to join the new health care program that will be enforced by the Internal Revenue Service. Personal health information, or PHI, is highly protected under federal law, but the latest ruling from the Department of Health and Human Services allows agencies to trade the information to verify that Obamacare applicants are getting the minimum amount of health insurance coverage they need from the health "exchanges."

The Global Times, one of China´s largest and most strident state newspapers, published an editorial in both its English and Chinese editions calling on Beijing not to return Mr Snowden to the US. Earlier this month, Mr Snowden, a 29-year-old former subcontractor working for the US National Security Agency, fled to Hong Kong with a cache of documents that expose the scale of America´s cyber spying programmes.... "Washington must be grinding its teeth because Snowden´s revelations have almost overturned the image of the US as the defender of a free internet," wrote the Global Times.

Sen. Frank Lautenberg died this morning of viral pneumonia at age 89, his office said. The oldest member of the Senate, Lautenberg had struggled with health problems since late last year, when he missed several weeks of votes because of what he said was flu and bronchitis. The death of Lautenberg, a Democrat who was the longest-serving senator in New Jersey history, creates a vacancy that Governor Christie, a Republican, will fill. Lautenberg returned to Washington in February and announced he would not seek re-election in 2014, but hoped to complete a series of accomplishments before his term ended.

Will immigration reform get

The biggest overhaul of U.S. immigration laws in a generation won bipartisan approval from a powerful U.S. Senate committee last week, but there is a strong chance that Republicans in the House of Representatives will end up killing it. The problem: House Republicans are far from convinced by arguments from party leaders that passage of the bill would help Republicans draw support from Hispanic voters. Many also believe any kind of amnesty for the estimated 11 million immigrants who are in the United States illegally is just plain wrong.

Catherine Engelbrecht’s tale has all the markings of a classic conspiracy theory: She says she thinks that because of her peaceful political activity, she and her family was targeted for scrutiny by hostile federal agencies. Yet as news emerges that the Internal Revenue Service wielded its power to obstruct conservative groups, Catherine’s story becomes credible — and chilling. It also raises questions about whether other federal agencies have used their executive powers to target those deemed political enemies.

President Obama has been rolling up his sleeves campaigning across the country delivering a surreal stump speech message supposedly aimed at the middle class: big government works, Obamacare is manna from heaven, the wave of recent scandals are “phony” figments of the imagination, and all economic problems are the fault of the Republicans. Conveniently, he leaves out the bankruptcy of Detroit, a city run by his own party for more than half a century. Sen. John McCain — a Democrat? There was confusion Wednesday after the Arizona Republican mistakenly strolled into President Obama’s meeting with Senate Democrats at the Capitol. The room full of Democrats — who happened to be meeting in the same room where the Senate GOP usually holds their weekly policy luncheons — erupted in applause and laughter as the former Republican presidential candidate made his entrance. As McCain, 76, walked out of the Dem-filled space, reporters pressed him as to why he stepped foot in the room.

I never thought the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman case deserved nearly the attention it got. But reasonable people can disagree about that. What strikes me as unconscionable, however, is the way the supposedly objective media have not only sensationalized a tragedy but at times appear to deliberately bend the facts to fit a desired story line. Maybe it started with the use of pictures of a younger Martin or with the sudden embrace of the term "white Hispanic" to describe Zimmerman in order to more easily paint him as a racist. NBC News was the most egregious offender
