Homosexual Boy Scout Denied Eagle Award

| SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (CBS SEATTLE) – Another controversy involving homosexuality is shaking the Boy Scouts of America. New allegations are coming from Ryan Andresen, a scout for the past 12 years who is claiming his homosexuality is preventing him from participating in the BSA. In July, the organization announced that it plans to continue its ban on gay membership after a two-year review of the divisive policy. Ryan is claiming that, despite more than a decade of service in the scouts, he is being denied the group’s highest honor — the Eagle Award — because he is gay.
|
Comments: Baloney. Again, this case involves the Scout refusing to adhere to the basic precepts of scouting and is not because he is "gay" per se. This matter has already been decided by the SCOTUS in favor of the BSA as a freedom of association issue and here we have another poor kid obviously being exploited by the homosexual activist mob. . . pity.

Why should a boy (a boy I mention) even know his sexual tendency at Boy Scout age? As an Eagle Scout (1970) myself, his sexual perversions should not be rewarded with a symbol of sterling character.

Meanwhile, the country is on the verge of bankruptcy, we have massive unemployment and the possibility that the most corrupt president in history will be re-elected. In the big scheme of things this should be a non issue, it is just another way of branding conservatives as extreme.

I am sorry but the kid started scouts long before he knew he was gay. Being gay should not disqualify him from scouts because it is a state of being. There is no proof he acted on it yet. Besides he earned it. Give him the award and then have him leave the group. Also, he didn't choose to be gay, he merely chose to be honest and admit he was gay. I thought honesty was the most important thing.

Sorry #5, I do not agree. Homosexuals are defined by their actions, not their skin color (or some other part of their body that they are unable to change). Being attracted to someone of the same sex does not make you a homosexual. Having sex with someone of the same sex makes you homosexual. If this boy were to choose to remain celibate until after he finished his scouting experience, his sexual preferences would be irrelevant.

As an Eagle Scout, 1958, I strongly support the actions of the BSA. I think that this young man made a choice to be homosexual. I do not believe people are born that way although many leftists will scream bloody murder. I have been screamed at many times and I don't give a rats patootie.

"Deron Smith, an official representative for the group, said that Ryan contributed to the current situation by openly stating that he is opposed to the BSA’s religious stance.
Recently, a Scout proactively notified his unit leadership and Eagle Scout Counselor that he does not agree to Scouting‘s principle of ’Duty to God‘ and does not meet Scouting’s membership standard on sexual orientation"

There is no need for boy scouts to make their sexuality an issue. Don't ask, don't tell. If guys are talking about girls around the campfire, then the gay kid doesn't have to join in. No one is making anyone talk or get hooked up to a lie detector machine. The mom sounds like she made this an issue. The boy could have announced it much later, after his scouting experience was over.

Even if he started Scouts long before he figured out who he was sexually attracted to, once he figured it out and gave it a name, he knew he could no longer be a Scout, because being homosexual is not allowed in this PRIVATE organization.
Yet he chose to continue on as a Scout -- which means he intentionally chose to break the rules. That alone should disqualify him from receiving the Eagle Award.
As many before me have pointed out, why don't the homosexuals just start their own boy's organization? They can open it to any boy who wants to join, whether he is homosexual or not. They can have campouts, earn merit badges (like the all important NAMBLA badge), and basically do whatever they want since they will be a PRIVATE organization.
Of course, it's hard to do much when you have maybe 20 members all over the country...

No, #5. This is a deliberate action by an individual (and more likely his activist parent) to push an agenda on a private organization. He is NOT the victim here, despite playing the victim card.
The precepts of the organization are clear, and they include being truthful as well as being morally straight; He does not get a pass in order to forward a radical sexual agenda just because he was a member for years immorally concealing that agenda.

45 years later that medal, the respect of those who have earned it and my respect for the outstanding Americans of all walks of life who earned it before me are intensely meaningful. When I encounter someone I know has earned that silver Eagle, I knw what he's made of. The qualifications are clear and the bar is high. They do not change because one individual does not meet them, nor should they.

Feelings are feelings and you can't change feelings.
That said, you are responsible for how you act upon those feelings.
He "chose" (or allowed his activist mother to coerce him) to be very public about an activity that should remain behind bedroom door, whether "straight" or homosexual, it is a private activity that should remain private.
He made that choice knowing the well-publicized stance of the organization to which he belonged. He knew in advance of that decision what the consequences would be.
This has been litigated before, he knew the outcome before he ever opened his mouth.

"...(A) Scout for the past twelve years"? Since Boy Scouts have to be eleven before they can join a Scout troop--they are Cub Scout age before then--this fellow would be 23. I doubt age policies have changed since I was a Scout. Eagle Scouts must achieve the rank of Eagle before the age of 21--in other words, while they're still boys. (I got my Eagle at age 14 in 1968: Troop 217, Nashville, and was totally inactive in my troop before the age of 16, having other things to do in my adolescence--insignificant things like growing up. I can't imagine a boy being an active Scout past the age of 16--especially 18 or beyond. Wanting to hang around boys who are mostly 11 to 14 would be strange behavior for someone much older. I could see one being a Scouter (an active adult in the troop) maybe, but not a Scout.)
It appears to me that yet again a homosexual activist wants to cause trouble for the Boy Scouts of America. No doubt there are leftoid political forces willing to shine this poor fellow on. And I must state that although I am straight, I do admire some outwardly gay individuals (including a few at this site), and I seriously doubt that any of them would be the sort who would relish causing this kind of a gratuitous uproar.

Fact is Boy Scouts is a boy led organization. This Scout was serving on the staff at Boy Scout camp before he decided to condemn the BSA for their policy on homosexuals. The camp had little choice but to let him go. You can not remain a leader in an organization when you challenge the organization's founding principles. The Eagle Scout rank is granted for demonstrating your ability to lead other Scouts along the Boy Scout trail. He chose a detour.

The U.S. has been denied direct access to the only publicly known suspect in custody in connection with the Benghazi terror attack, Fox News has learned, with U.S. interrogators still unable to sit in the same room as the Egypt-held prisoner to ask questions. Abu Ahmed, also known as Mohammed Jamal, is suspected of establishing Islamist training camps in Eastern Libya where militants who took part in the Sept. 11 Benghazi terrorist attack were able to train. Ahmed is not suspected of directly taking part in the attack which left four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens, dead.

For the past five months, the Republican message on foreign policy message has been defined by a single word: Benghazi. Ever since the deadly September 11 attack on the U.S. compound in that Libyan city, Republicans have obsessed over the episode. Mitt Romney made Benghazi a favorite talking point in the 2012 campaign home stretch. More recently, Republicans have invoked Benghazi to shoot down one would-be cabinet nominee, Susan Rice, and delay two others, Chuck Hagel and John Brennan. They have dragged a parade of administration officials, including Hillary Clinton

TIMBUKTU, Mali - One of the last things the bearded fighters did before leaving this city was to drive to the market where traders lay their carpets out in the sand. The al-Qaida extremists bypassed the brightly-colored, high-end synthetic floor coverings and stopped their pickup truck in front of a man selling more modest mats woven from desert grass, priced at $1.40 apiece. There they bought two bales of 25 mats each, and asked him to bundle them on top of the car, along with a stack of sticks.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.
