...and last night I watched him in disbelief as he tried (?) to pay Romney a compliment by saying that the good news about the debates is that voters can see for themselves that Romney wouldn't have money in the Cayman Islands?????

McCain was just mocking Team 0bama's infantile desperation. He followed up with this:

“I think it probably gets attention, but it may show a paucity of ideas in ways to criticize Mitt Romney,” McCain continued. “The fact is the economy is still in very bad shape and obviously the American people are still in very difficult condition and the one thing President Obama can’t run on is his record.”

I think the president´s basically right on this and that most bipartisan leaders of Congress are right, that we live in a world of big data. We live in the world of gigantic databases where people are collecting large amounts of information. The stuff that is being done on American citizens, as the president said, is not the content of the calls. It´s the network of connections of the calls. There is a FISA court review. There´s congressional review. The targets are reasonably narrow. I worry about this being abused later on.
