Obama: Some people wonder
why I’m so ‘even-keeled’

Washington Examiner [DC], by Charlie Spiering

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 10/9/2012 8:16:15 AM

“I’m not going to spend a long time making a speech,” President Obama explained last night during a fundraiser in San Francisco last night, signalling that he would answer questions instead. “Most of you have been great friends for many years. Many of you supported me when I was running for the United States Senate, much less running for President. And so I think you know who I am and you know what I care about.” Instead, Obama began reminiscing about growing up in Hawaii, after he was introduced by a childhood friend, Pam Hamamoto.

His speeches, whether personal or on policies, have as many lies as I's. In last night's SF speech, he spoke about body surfing as a 16 year old in Hawaii but in July, he said:

"Best vacation I had when I was a kid was my grandmother, my mom and my sister -- we traveled around the country on Greyhound buses and on trains and we stayed at Howard Johnson's."

Obama did not travel to mainland US until he was 18. Greyhounds in Indonesia were for dining, not for riding between imaginary HoJo's in Jakarta.

It is nigh impossible to parody a statement like "Some people wonder why I'm so even-keeled," because none of us has ever seen anyone as self-absorbed as this narcissistic would be deity, this hog in the holy manger. No parodist could be cynical enough to top that, and if one were, it would be too outlandish for anyone to believe. To be effective parody has to have some connection, however faint, to reality. But there's nothing real about this character other than his vocal chords and his malodorous omnipresence in our lives. Mr. Potato Head deserves a good view of the keel as he gets hauled under it back and forth from stern to starboard then starboard to stern.

The White House said Obama picked up the dinner tab and paid for it with his own money. Earlier on Tuesday, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus suggested the second dinner not be at an expensive restaurant. “Instead of eating out as the president and senators did last month, I suggest they eat in,”

WASHINGTON- Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says he wants U.S. military law changed so senior commanders can´t overturn courts-martial verdicts in major crimes such as rape. Hagel said the Pentagon´s top lawyers would prepare legislation for Congress that would strip commanders´ power to toss out convictions, "except for certain minor offenses that would not ordinarily warrant trial by court-martial." Convicted defendants still would be able to appeal their cases. But in a move berated by advocacy groups for military sexual-assault victims, Hagel also said he would recommend commanders retain the power to alter courts-martial sentences,

If presidential politics ever involved time travel, President Obama might be in a little trouble. If an election between Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama were held today, 58% would vote for Reagan over Obama, according to a survey of 1,000 Americans age 18 and older conducted by Kelton Research for the National Geographic Channel. Though when the field is narrowed to people ages 18-34 -- those either too young to have known Reagan as president or too young to remember much -- the gap shrinks to 51% in favor of Reagan.

With all due respect to Mother Jones´s conversation-leaker-in-chief David Corn, the recordings published today of a conversation between Sen. Mitch McConnell and some consultants disparaging Ashley Judd is not news. It´s the sausage being made. We´ve got full background here, but the toplines are this: Corn got hold of a conversation apparently recorded during a presentation by consultants to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell´s reelection campaign. The consultants were opposition researchers, hired by the campaign to ferret out damaging information about actress Ashley Judd, who at one point considered running against McConnell.

As he continues guiding the Senate toward eventual consideration of proposals to curb gun violence, Majority Leader Harry M. During his morning remarks on the Senate floor, Reid recalled receiving a 12-gauge shotgun ordered from a Sears catalog for his 12th birthday and made reference to incidents of gun violence in his home state of Nevada, including the 2010 shooting at a Las Vegas federal building. He also noted that as a young state legislator, he sponsored a bill
