But once voters decide, the artistic tastes of the first family become well known from the pieces they choose to adorn the White House. Barack Obama has long taken pride in his artistic interests, taking Michelle to the Art Institute of Chicago on their first date, where he impressed his future wife with his knowledge of both the old masters and modern art. Chuck Close is also offering 10 large-scale tapestry portraits of the president for $100,000 apiece to benefit his campaign.
Is he the guy that did the tapestry of the dogs playing poker? That, and velvet Elvis paintings, are my type of art.
(I get the impression that the purpose of the article is primarily to emphasize Romney's promise to cut NEA funding.)

We support several wonderful museums - the Huntington Library, the Norton Simon, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

"Another painting with text is a surprising choice for the Obama White House. Edward Ruscha's 1983 "I Think I'll. . ." reflects a kind of indecision that's never a prized trait in the nation's highest office, with such phrases as "Wait a minute. . . !. . . !," "On second thought," "Think Maybe I'll. . ." and in the tiniest type, "Yet."
Sounds like a painting that Obama would choose, sums up his character. I would have thought Michelle would have chosen more of the black velvet type of paintings, they are so colorful.

Perhaps if Romney gets in, the George Innis painting, "Peace and Plenty" would be appropriate for the White House. Innis was the first major American impressionist.

CHARLESTON, W.Va.— A prosecutor says a suspect in the fatal shooting of a West Virginia sheriff was legally prohibited from possessing one. Mingo County Prosecutor Michael Sparks declined to say Wednesday where 37-year-old Tennis Melvin Maynard bought the gun. But Sparks says "it appears that the system didn´t work." Sparks also declined to elaborate on why Maynard was barred from owning a gun. But Maynard´s father has said his son had mental problems and had previously been in an institution.

Hundreds of lucky state employees are opting to jump into retirement before they hit age 50 thanks to loopholes in the law, a Herald review of the latest pension report shows. In the past three years, there have been 475 state workers who retired before age 50 — going into their golden years with full pensions for some and partial payouts for others, a Herald review found. Actually, she is backing off. Here’s the thing about her now-famous MSNBC promo: Either she’s saying something radical or she’s saying something so banal that it’s barely even worth saying. The radical interpretation is that she thinks parents should have less say over how their children are raised and that “communities” should have a larger role. The very, very banal interpretation is that she thinks communities should do more to improve children’s lives and that thinking of them as “our children” might help forge that mentality. A new CNN/ORC International poll found President Obama´s overall approval rating has ticked up to 51 percent but ratings have fallen on his handling of the key issues on his agenda: immigration, guns, and the deficit. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is actively shopping for a drone that would "stalk hunters," the organization said Monday.
