Obama Recalls “Tragic Burdens”
of Tribal Groups on Columbus Day

Fox News, by Todd Starnes

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 10/8/2012 2:39:50 PM

President Obama marked Columbus Day by issuing a proclamation that reflects “on the tragic burdens tribal communities bore” in the years that followed the discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus. (Snip) “When the explorers laid anchor in the Bahamas, they met indigenous peoples who had inhabited the Western hemisphere for millennia,” Obama wrote. “As we reflect on the tragic burdens tribal communities bore in the years that followed, let us commemorate the many contributions they have made to the American experience, and let us continue to strengthen the ties that bind us today.”

Comments:
There is no doubt that 0bama is the worst president in the history of this nation. He is a national disgrace. It's all about political correctness with this fool.

Sure. The Native American tribes just loved nature and one another.

Their cultures were just above stone age and hadn't even found the wheel. They waged continuous war and murdered each other; whole tribes, families etc.

Jeez....get real....What is trying to set up? More reparations? It is about time the "tribes" assimilate into the US, fully....or, being 'citizens' of separate nations, should not vote.

Oh, puh-leaze!

The trope about the noble Indian, whose lands were stolen, whose people slaughtered, and whose culture was destroyed is so yesterday. That was a popular cause back in the '70's. And we've already made enough reparations via casinos since then.

Doncha know that the current fad is the downtrodden Palestinians? And the poor muslims whose feelings we hurt with hateful videos and cartoons.

The so-called "Native Americans" had been murdering each other for ages before any European came to the Americas. They were NOT peaceful, soul-searching peoples. The only complaint they have against European-Americans is that the European-Americans eventually won. Let's not believe the myth that has been woven about Indians... oops -- Native Americans.

Oh, for the United States to have a President again! While I sympathize with the fate of Native Americans, and agree that there is still restoration to be done on their behalf, this day is about Columbus and Europeans and events that led to the greatest democratic republic history has seen - not them.

Liberals like to embrace Darwinism - except when it applies to nations. Face it: the "stronger" and more technically advanced culture supplanted the indigenous one. Brains over brawn. This takes nothing away from the intelligence of Native Americans or the merits of their culture - they still have much to contribute regarding care of the environment, and other matters. It's just that technological progress won the day.

If you want Native Americans to have a day to honor them, I'd be all for it. But today (Friday, actually) is Columbus Day.

Let's celebrate Columbus and the way his courage and spirit of adventure changed history and how we view the world. Let's celebrate that the earth is not flat. Let's celebrate that discovery of a 'New World' led to new thinking and enabled the Liberty Bell to ring.

Columbus (who may have been from Genoa)treated the Caribbean natives execrably in the fashion of the time. His actions do not confer nobility on his victims nor depreciate the ennobling aspects of European expeditions to the Western Hemisphere. It is instructive to remember the practices of those times and to deplore them, no matter the provenance of the perpetrators or the victims. We can't change them. We can abhor them.
Recall, too, that 1492 was the year in which the Alhambra fell and the last of the Muslims were expelled from the Iberian peninsula which would, in the following century see the unification of the Kingdoms of Castile and Aragon into the nation known as Spain. The Muslims of that time, and this, have notoriously held slaves and dealt viviously with conquered peoples. It is the conduct we should condemn, not the locus nor the origins of it.

Contrary to popular belief Indian tribes were just as cruel as the whites who "discovered" their land. Murder, rape, slavery. They were no different. The whites were able to conquer them because they had a superior knowledge of weapons. And they did bring new illnesses that decimated their populations. There was nothing fair about any of it - that's just the way the situation shook out. And they did bring new illnesses that decimated their populations. This white guilt crap has got to stop.

Indigenous peoples is a misnomer. If research into the genetics of the human species is correct, mankind originated in what is now Africa. Everywhere else humans existed is a place that they migrated to. The difference between Columbus and the inhabitants of The Bahamas was simply one of timing. When we say we are a nation of immigrants, it is not just romantic rhetoric; it is hard historical fact. And it applies equally to those who would disparage those who arrived more recently.

On Thanksgiving, will we be lectured on the expropriation of Plymouth Colony by the Pilgrims? On Christmas, the horrors of the Inquisition? On New Year's Day, the unfairness to Muslims of counting years since the birth of Christ? On Easter, how Christians made all the pagans feel bad by telling them they were worshipping false gods? And then there will be the Fourth of July...

Well, Barry. Invent a time machine and go undo the Great Discovery. Let the Chinese find the place first - and let the population die off just the same as the first time. Why? Because any major contact with any old world population would have exposed the Indians to the disease that wiped out their teaming numbers and left the land open for settlement inthe first place.

You don't know what you don't know - and no one had a clue that such would be the result. No one. The Indians held their own against settlement for over 100 years, but two great sweeps of the epidemic through the two continents made possible English settlement after 1600. And at Plymouth, they were invited in to provide balance against a neighboring tribal confederation after local numbers had been decimated again. Ever read the book "1491," Barry? You should. Maybe you'd know more of what you don't know.

My question for you, all-seeing Barry, is this: What is it that you don't know? What don't you know when you invite in Muslim terrorists and illegal immigrants of all stripes. Or do you really think you do know?

Poor Barry. Human like the rest of us, and can't see all the ramifications of the breath he's stealing right now from the ought-to-have-been descendants of the African tribesmen his forefathers sold to the Islamists for deportation. What is going to happen to the rest of us if we allow you to breath the air of the Oval Office for another slow-motion four years.

Stop stealing our air, Barry. Go home. No one wants you on their team.

Just another “I will stand with the muslims..” and attack on the Catholic Faith:
"What do we mean by the Catholic discovery of America?
· We mean the discovery of America by Spain, a country that for 700 years had suffered martyrdom under Islam, in defense of the Catholic Faith.
· We mean the discovery of America made possible by the apostolic zeal of Isabella I, the Catholic Queen of Spain. After seven centuries; the Moors were finally driven out of Spain in the year 1491; 1492 came on the heels of seven centuries of martyrdom. “

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Los Angeles — Some people have had it with TV. They´ve had enough of the 100-plus channel universe. They don´t like timing their lives around network show schedules. They´re tired of $100-plus monthly bills. A growing number of them have stopped paying for cable and satellite TV service, and don´t even use an antenna to get free signals over the air. (Snip) Last month, the Nielsen Co. started labeling people in this group "Zero TV" households, because they fall outside the traditional definition of a TV home. There are 5 million of these residences in the U.S., up from

On Friday, Sean Hannity brought Pat Smith, mother of the late Sean Smith, on his radio program. The 34-year-old information management officer was one of four Americans murdered in the Benghazi embassy attack on September 11, 2012. In the chilling interview, a distraught Ms. Smith, in tears, pleaded for answers and spoke of the efforts to silence her. Ms. Smith first relayed how her son, prior to the attack, requested additional security in advance and warned the State Department: He did tell them, ahead of time, he typed it into his little typewriter over there,

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

I hope all will look at a lifetime of service over some poorly chosen words.” Carson will remain as commencement speaker at Johns Hopkins,

Susan Patton, the Princeton alumna who became famous for her letter urging Ivy League women to use their college years to find a mate, has been denounced as a traitor to feminism, to coeducation, to the university ideal. But really she’s something much more interesting: a traitor to her class. Her betrayal consists of being gauche enough to acknowledge publicly a truth that everyone who’s come up through Ivy League culture knows intuitively —

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.

Newtown killer Adam Lanza may have launched his murder spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School as an “act of revenge,” the Daily News has learned. A close friend of Lanza’s mother told The News that the troubled boy was a target of relentless bullying when he attended the Connecticut school years ago. “I think Adam felt betrayed by the school and this was his act of revenge,” said Marvin LaFontaine, a friend of Nancy Lanza’s. “Nancy told me he was being picked on at school. That they were just torturing him.”

ATTLEBORO, Mass. — As many as 25 students at a Massachusetts school were denied lunch this week — with at least some forced to dump their food in the garbage — because they couldn´t pay, school officials and parents said. Outraged parents said some students at Coelho Middle School in Attleboro cried when they were told by a worker for the district´s food service provider they could not eat on Tuesday because they couldn´t pay or their pre-paid accounts were short on funds. The on-site director for the company, Whitsons Culinary Group of Islandia, N.Y., was placed on administrative leave by
