Oh, for the United States to have a President again! While I sympathize with the fate of Native Americans, and agree that there is still restoration to be done on their behalf, this day is about Columbus and Europeans and events that led to the greatest democratic republic history has seen - not them.

Liberals like to embrace Darwinism - except when it applies to nations. Face it: the "stronger" and more technically advanced culture supplanted the indigenous one. Brains over brawn. This takes nothing away from the intelligence of Native Americans or the merits of their culture - they still have much to contribute regarding care of the environment, and other matters. It's just that technological progress won the day.

If you want Native Americans to have a day to honor them, I'd be all for it. But today (Friday, actually) is Columbus Day.

Columbus day was made a holiday to recognize and honor the contribution of Roman Catholics and immigrants. It's a holiday to celebrate diversity. It didn't have much to do with Columbus originally. It's a shame Obama knows so little about this country.
