It's encouraging to hear a corporation defend itself from this administration. What I can't understand is why haven't they done so for the last four years? The most representative of our capitalist system has been silent when all of the facts are on their side. Big industry had better wake up to the assault they are under.

Of course if the Oil companies would have "a pair" they would shut down all gas stations in Calif and let the people revolt.

It is my understanding that Oil companies get exactly the same subsidies as other corporations. Drug companies, banks,auto industry, General Mills, Proctor & Gamble, etc. That Obama singles out the companies that produce the LIFE blood of all industry tells me something.

Up front, I am an ExxonMobil shareholder. Let me help. Quit being defensive. It's a loser. ExxonMobil does not get subsidies. XOM pays billions in federal and state income taxes, franchise taxes, property taxes, excise taxes, highway use taxes, sales taxes, severance taxes, unemployment, fica, and other taxes. Taxes on taxes no end in sight.

The oil companies (and the mining companies) are the only ones I know of that send hundreds of millions to the government just for producing their product. They pay tens of millions for leases for the privilege of finding out if there is any oil on the lease, then they pay millions to workers and suppliers to drill a well, all of whom pay taxes on the money they get, and then, if they are lucky and happen to hit oil, they pay royalties to the government for every barrel they pump out of the ground. I don't think the car companies pay royalties for every car they produce...

Federal and State governments sure don't "feel my pain" when they add layer upon layer of taxes onto the gallon of gasoline I pump into my car. If ExxonMobil must go on a "diet" then so must the bloated government bureaucracies.

How many federal agencies does it take to do catfish safety inspections? At least three, according to the Government Accountability Office, which on Tuesday released its 2013 report on fragmentation and duplication of federal programs. This year´s report -- there were two previous editions of the report first requested by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla. -- documents an estimated $95 billion in duplicative programs that waste precious tax dollars. In a stunning end to one of the most aggressively unsuccessful tenures in retail history, JCPenney (JCP) last night announced that CEO Ron Johnson would be leaving effective immediately. Myron Ullman, Johnson´s predecessor at JCPenney, takes office as CEO. When Johnson was initially wooed by JCPenney, it was to serve as CEO with Ullman as Chairman. In January 2012, Ullman was unceremoniously removed from the board. Gone with Ullman was any control the Board of Directors had over Ron Johnson and his control of JCPenney resources.

The state of California is reportedly considering legislation that would force group insurance policies to provide infertility treatment for gay and lesbian couples. Two men who have sex with each other for a year and do not produce a baby would be considered “infertile” under the proposed legislation. So would two women having sex. Since biology does not allow those without a uterus to conceive or those without a penis to impregnate, every year-long gay couple in California would potentially be covered by this new provision of California law.
