I would think the folks in San Diego would welcome this. Now they can switch to green energy.
Be careful what you wish for.

I had to go break out my broken 1-stringed violin to play for these poor Kalifornians. They pay $18.00 a gallon for water and gas is too high? Maybe they can strap some of those leftover Solyndra panels to their cars

I feel sorry for the decent, common-sense Californians trapped in this crumbling state. I know plenty would like to get out but can't.

You can book your bet right now that in a matter of a few years at most we will be asked to bail out California with mega-dollars that we don't have.

As much as I want out of Kalifornia, and after 74 years of watching this state go down the drain, it has come to this $4.70.9 per gallon just outside SF. It was $4.14 on Friday. Lies and more lies from the oil companies and the government just to fleece us hard working and retired natives. Too bad there aren't more conservatives in this state. It has been over-run by the libertards and time to start packing for better economic future. May be a third world country will take me in where I can live on my fixed income without the federal, state and local governments taking every last penny from me.

This is an unwritten well coordinated effort by oil companies to skyrocket gas prices to all time new highs just before the election. California could go for Romney if gas gets to +$6 a gallon by November 6. So it's $6 by the 6th.
We remember that here in Mexiforniaco, gas was around $1.80 a gallon the day PoiBoi took office. Gas at my local Arco station was $3.899 a week ago, today it was $4.499.
The clerk said it will go up again tomorrow too. I just hope this tactic works.

#9 is correct. There are many good people in California. The San Diego region is home to many, many retired service personnel who do not deserve any of this. There are farmers and ranchers who don't deserve this. In fact, about the only ones who do are the loony's of SF, Marin County and the Hollywood coast. But if this tactic causes California to go for Romney, I'm sure these good people would consider it worth the cost.

They need to add a new gas tax to spend on stem cell research, high speed trains to nowhere and tax breaks for the film industry. How about an additional $3 per gallon? You are all rich in California and need to pay your fair share.

How about rooting for the 20some% who decline to declare a party to join us November 6? That would be a better use of your energy - and prayers. There are currently nearly 18 million registered voters in California.

At some point people drastically change their driving habits when gas prices get too high. Cancel that trip to the mall, movie theatre, or the beach. $5/GAL couple cripple the local economy and make voters cranky on 11/6.

Oil companies do not set the price of gas. Only uninformed people would think this. The state of Cally e fornia probably makes more on the taxes than the amount the oil company makes.

Yes, some of us do feel sorry for CA retirees, military and burger flippers. You can't go to work if gas is $6.00 as shown on the morning news.

However, I doubt that Repubs outnumber lefties as posted above. If so, where did all the votes for the incumbent leftist government come from?

It is that very group that we do not feel sorry for. The special CA gas formulas did not get pushed on them by conservatives.

PS - gas today at my neighborhood QT just north of Atlanta, GA = $3.40.

If it is my Reply that was misread, here it is again. The Republicans are seriously outnumbered here:

that we are outnumbered by registered Dems 43% to 30%.

Those who doubt me can go to the website of the Secretary of State of California.

For decades California was a Republican state - Reagan, Wilson, Deukmejian, and yes, Schwarzenegger. There have been only a few Dem governors - Culbert Olson, another one whose name I forget, and Pat Brown, Gray Davis (recalled) and Jerry Brown (twice)

The State Supreme Court is largely Republican-appointed.

Now we have a Dem governor and a Dem legislature.

How nice it would be if comments here could be tempered - remember your audience here is Conservative, not Liberal - so that we would not be continually insulted by fellow Conservatives who should know better.

How does the Republican Party establishment choose its presidential candidate? Typically, constitutionalists accuse their establishment rivals of being moderate, risk-averse, stubborn old fools who lack faith in conservative principles. This is a soothing interpretation, as it begins from the hypothesis that the contest between conservatives and the GOP elite is a family feud. But there is another hypothesis -- less soothing, but, at least from an outsider´s bird´s-eye view, more reconcilable with the facts. This hypothesis is that America has reached a stage of progressive soft despotism in which the only important family feud in national politics is between the fundamentally

My first published column was in a local paper opposing the Equal Rights Amendment for the same reasons that Phyllis Schlafly, a conservative lawyer, campaigned on. As ambiguously written, the ERA, would eliminate the men-only draft requirement, repeal protective laws like sexual assault and eliminate the tendency for mothers to obtain custody over their children in divorce cases. Ironically, one of the arguments that helped sink the amendment from ratification was the fear that single-sex bathrooms would no longer be permitted.
