Romney: Jobs growth not enough to re-elect Obama

| Weyers Cave, Va. — The jobs picture improved in September, but Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney said the fall in the nation’s jobless rate still is not enough to justify giving President Obama another term in office. “This is not what a real recovery looks like,” Mr. Romney said in a statement, pointing to what he said was a downward trend of job-creation. “We created fewer jobs in September than in August, and fewer jobs in August than in July, and we’ve lost over 600,000 manufacturing jobs since President Obama took office.”

Glad Team Romney fights back hard and fast. And I'm sure these numbers will be "adjusted" later. They were cooked to make Obama look good.

I'll repeat a comment I read on one of these many threads RE: bogus unemployment numbers:
"I wouldn't vote for Obama if the unemployment rate was 2%."

Good approach. Instead of debunking the phony numbers (we'll do that) he simply says it's too little, too late. Obammy is like the neglectful spouse who shows up with a bouquet of grocery store flowers as the divorce decree is being drawn up, thinking all is well.

What "jobs growth"? We have about the same total number of workers as we had when 0bama took office but we have had 4 years of new workers, new college graduates, and new immigrants (illegal and otherwise) coming into the workforce.

Days after 80-year-old conservative mega-financier Bob Perry died, the Reuters news agency erroneously posted an obituary for George Soros, his liberal counterpart. “George Soros, who died XXX at age XXX, was a predatory and hugely successful financier and investor, who argued paradoxically for years against the same sort of free-wheeling capitalism that made him billions,” it said on its website Thursday. News agencies routinely prepare obituaries for living persons, and Mr. Soros is still alive at 82. Describing him as “an enigma, wrapped in intellect, contradiction and money,”

In testimony before the Senate Finance Committee Wednesday, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius couldn´t give specific answers to simple questions about the implementation of Obamacare. Committee chair Max Baucus -- a Democrat who helped write the bill -- told the secretary he sees a "train wreck coming." "I mean, you need data...you´ve never given me any data, you just give me concepts, frankly. And government´s not a business, but you´re going to have to have some data -- benchmarks -- to figure out what progress you are or are not making," Baucus said.

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates — Abu Dhabi´s new branch of the Louvre considers no artistic subject to be off limits but will not "shock for the sake of shocking", a top overseer said Tuesday. She spoke as the museum prepared to open a sample of its growing collection to public view, shedding light on the choices the city makes as it expands its international profile while testing how far to open its conservative culture. Objects including a medieval nude sculpture and Christian icons suggest the Abu Dhabi Louvre

Niamey, Niger -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited the uranium-rich West African nation of Niger on Tuesday, although officials discounted that the mineral was the reason for his visit. Niger´s President Mahamadou Issoufou denied international speculation that Iran had come in search of uranium for its enrichment program, which Western powers suspect might aim to produce nuclear weapons. "We have not brought up the question of Nigerien uranium. Iran itself being a producer of minerals," Issoufou said.

Quetta, Pakistan - A major earthquake centered on a border area of southeast Iran killed at least 13 people in neighboring Pakistan, destroyed hundreds of houses and shook buildings as far away as India and Gulf Arab states on Tuesday. Communications with the area, a sparsely populated desert and mountain region, were largely cut, leading to conflicting preliminary reports of casualties in Iran. An Iranian provincial governor later said there were no deaths there. The epicenter was far from any of Iran´s nuclear facilities. Pakistani officials said at least eight people were killed and 20 injured in the town of Mashkeel

Tehran, Iran -- A major earthquake described as the strongest to hit Iran in more than half a century flattened homes and offices Tuesday on both sides of the Iran-Pakistan border, killing at least 46 people in the sparsely populated region and swaying skyscrapers and buildings as far away as New Delhi. Iran´s Red Crescent said it was facing a "complicated emergency situation" in the area with villages scattered over desolate hills and valleys. Iran´s semiofficial ISNA news agency and others described the quake, measured at least magnitude 7.7, as the strongest quake in more than 50 years.

Venezuelans faced the prospect of extended political instability after the country’s electoral council proclaimed Nicolas Maduro president-elect and opposition supporters prepared to march in the streets a second day to demand a full recount of the April 14 election. The government dispatched anti-riot forces in Caracas yesterday as Maduro, who received 50.8 percent of the vote, was declared the winner. Tear gas was used to disperse protesters who didn’t accept the government refusal to recount the vote as demanded by opposition candidate Henrique Capriles Radonski.

It is George W Bush’s particular achievement to be disliked by both sides in American politics. Democrats of course excoriate the damage done to the budget by waging two wars while cutting taxes, his conduct after Hurricane Katrina and his shoot from the hip style, not to mention that fact that he presided over the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression. His own Republican party utterly rejected him during the 2012 campaign. Tea Party types saw him as a big-spender guilty of extending federal government, while few who once stood with him were prepared to defend his military achievements.

Pope Francis on Sunday said clergy and Christians must not betray the word of God with their actions or they undermine the credibility of the Catholic Church. Francis, elected a month ago, inherited a Church struggling to restore credibility after a series of scandals, including the sexual abuse of children by priests. The pope spoke at the Papal Basilica of St. Paul´s Outside the Walls, where he celebrated Mass. He also greeted pilgrims and local Church members earlier in St. Peter´s square. "Inconsistency on the part of pastors and the faithful between what they say and what they do,

Rome -- Pope Francis told priests on Sunday to practice what they preach, saying the church´s credibility was on the line. During a Mass to formally take possession of one of the Vatican basilicas in Rome, Francis said ordinary Catholics need to "see in our actions what they hear from our lips." Francis has made himself an example of a more humble and frugal church by refusing many of the trappings of the papacy, living in the Vatican hotel rather than the Apostolic Palace and wearing a simple white cassock of the papacy rather than fancy vestments and capes

Margaret Thatcher is getting her revenge on the Nancy men who mocked her in life, and who continue to throw rocks at her in death. Her reputation as “the Iron Lady” who towered over a plastic age is secure, and she’s getting a funeral that her girlhood idol Winston Churchill got before her. Big Ben, the famous clock that towers over Parliament, chiming the quarter-hour since 1859, will fall silent during the obsequies just as it did for Sir Winston nearly five decades ago. This has put Thatcher critics in a froth of toxic bile,

THE graying man flashing fury in the Rose Garden on behalf of the Newtown families, the grieving man wiping away tears after speaking at the Boston memorial service, is not the same man who glided into office four years ago. President Obama has watched the blood-dimmed tide drowning the ceremony of innocence, as Yeats wrote, and he has learned how to emotionally connect with Americans in searing moments, as he did from the White House late Friday night after the second bombing suspect was apprehended in Boston.

In debate classes or law school, it is often referred to as the ‘arguing against the non-existing opponent’ tactic. The way it works is you imply your opponent is making an outlandish, unsavory claim (though he isn’t), hoping others will run with it or, at worst, that your opponent won’t sufficiently correct it and the claim sticks. To illustrate, imagine Sally is arguing in favor of marijuana’s legalization against Tom. In the middle of the debate, Tom suddenly shrieks: “Well, Sally, you can talk about legalizing marijuana all you want but I just don’t believe

BOSTON - The surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings suffered an injury to his throat and may not be able to talk, a federal official told CNN on Saturday, possibly hindering attempts by authorities to question him about a motive in the attack. With one suspect dead, authorities believe answers to a motive and whether the brothers had help rest with Dzhokar Tsarnaev, who was captured Friday night just minutes after authorities had indicated that a massive manhunt for the suspect appeared to come up empty. The official, who was briefed on Tsarnaev´s condition

In Obama´s Audacity of Hope, he stated, "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in any ugly direction." He also asserted in Bob Woodward´s Obama´s Wars, "We can absorb [another] terrorist attack." These are two straightforward statements that raise the question of whether a man who has been seemingly obsessed with reaching out to "the Muslim world" since taking office is capable of fulfilling his duty as commander-in-chief to keep America safe and secure.

Washington - Boston Mayor Tom Menino says information he has indicates that the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing acted alone. Menino tells ABC's "This Week" that he agreed with the decision to lock down Boston all day Friday, based on information officials had at the time. He tells ABC's "This Week" that a pipe bomb was found at another location and that another person was taken into custody. The mayor did not elaborate. One suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-KHAR' tsahr-NEYE'-ehv), is in the hospital in serious condition. His older brother, Tamerlan, died in a police shootout

The two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings were not licensed to have the firearms they used in several shootouts with police on Friday, Reuters reported Sunday night. The news that the suspects were not authorized to own firearms will likely add fuel to calls for tougher gun laws – an issue that was put on the back-burner last week after the Senate blocked the central elements of a gun-control package backed by President Obama. Because Massachusetts state law bars handgun ownership for those younger than 21, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, age 26, was the only brother who could have

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A Massachusetts police official say the brothers suspected of bombing the Boston Marathon before having shootouts with authorities didn´t have gun permits. Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas tells The Associated Press in an interview Sunday that neither Tamerlan Tsarnaev (tsahr-NEYE´-ehv) nor his brother Dzhokhar had permission to carry firearms. He says it´s unclear whether either ever applied and the applications aren´t considered public records.

The most glaring fact about our president is that he is an empty suit. The people around him are also empty suits. They believe in nothing, really, but unearned luxury, unmerited adulation, and unaccountable power. Those whom we have come to call "leftists" are in fact nothing but nihilists, and we flatter them when we presume that they value anything beyond their vanities, their avarice, and their selfishness. When tragedy strikes, like in the Boston bombing, these empty suits can look and

Philip Mudd, former counterterror expert for the CIA and the FBI, joined Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday to discuss the nature of the threat posed by the Tsarnaev brothers and any network they may have been associated with in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings. He said the Boston attack reminded him more of the 1999 attack on Columbine than a terror event orchestrated by a foreign network. “I would charge these guys as murders not terrorists,” Mudd said of the suspects in the attack on the Boston Marathon. “Do you think we have to fear copycats – more of these small,

The fact of the matter is that it is good that they contacted him. That wasn´t enough to deter him, obviously. What I will say is this: We don´t know what their motivation was yet.

Lots of “tough questions” are being asked about why the FBI--having interviewed the older Boston bomber, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, in 2011--failed to continue to keep tabs on him. But that is the wrong question to be asking. The much more pressing question is: why the FBI didn’t nab the bombers on Monday night? After all, they hadn’t skipped town, and one of them--Tamerlan--was sitting "on file" as someone whom the Russian government said they suspected was an Islamist terrorist. A man they repeatedly interviewed just two years ago. Why did no one check those files, within minutes of the

Following the attack in Boston, some politicians, including Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Dan Coats (R-IN), advised slowing down immigration reform legislation in order to allow further debate and not make rushed decisions based on emotions. In an interview with Bloomberg’s Trish Regan, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) criticized his colleagues, deeming the argument “ludicrous.” Grassley’s remarks on Friday immediately caught attention when he said, “Given the events of this week, it’s important for us to understand the gaps and loopholes in our immigration system.” “How can individuals evade authorities and plan such attacks on our soil?” he asked.
