The most interesting place to have been in America on Thursday morning? Obama campaign headquarters. No need to guess what the post-debate conversation was in Boston: jubilation over Mitt Romney's wildly impressive Denver performance, and a strategy session on how to keep the momentum. But in Chicago? Amid the gloom, amid the shock, one pained question surely drove the discussion: "What now?" Because Chicago understands that the immediate critique of Barack Obama's debate performance understates the damage the president did to his campaign. Yes, he was detached. Yes, he was unprepared.
Spot on article. I hope Kim's conclusion is the correct one. Axelrod is the smarmiest creep in a political world full of smarmy creeps. As Dennis Miller might say, his real job is as the lighting double for Snidely Whiplash.
The Obama campaign believed its own hype, its own mantra, its own false narrative.
I do not think they have enough time to counter anything in a meaningful manner now; and I am extremely impressed with how disciplined and focused Team Romney is. Paul Ryan will mop the floors with Chia Pet Biden, and Romney will have to stay focused and upbeat and prepared -- which is a lot -- but not nearly as much as Obama has to do now.
The Chicago Mafia has already begun. Axelrod is the "hired killer" who has a long history in Chicago of mowing down the opposition with crooked means. I hope that the few who still haven't decided do not believe the tsunami of fraud that will be forthcoming. Hope Obama's gay days in Chicago will finally come out. Some say he is also on drugs with the Secret Service turning their backs. Remember the t.v. show, "What's your line?", Will the real Barak Obama please step out??
Millionaire Obama will accuse Romney of being a millionaire? ... Oooops. I guess Obama Lites aren't supposed to know that.
Romney has a failed record? Romney's discredited ideas? Romney, the flip-flopper? Romney is devoid of honesty? .... These character traits are straight from Obama's resume. Trying to drag Mitt down into Empty Suit's oozing slime will not work. Next, they will try to accuse Romney of incompetence for not being a rabble-rousing community organizer. THAT, it seems, is the best job description to qualify one for the presidency. Just ask those members of the Old Media who applauded to promote Empty Suit into the Oval Office.
Good column. Of course the Obama campaign will fight dirty; we've all known that for ages. Their reactions yesterday were just laughable, though. Not the real Mitt Romney? Please. The biggest laugh of all? The notion that Obama's too intelligent for the rest of us to understand. They've been pushing that a long time, too.
I , too, am really looking forward to the VP debate. I doubt there will be a need for rehearsing on the part of Paul Ryan. His strength is his convictions and the ability to convey them with ease ,class and clarity. On the other hand , Biden will eschew any preparation for an entirely different reason; he thinks he's the smartest man who ever lived. I expect fun and fireworks. (note to self- check popcorn inventory)
"They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. *That's* the *Chicago* way! And that's how you get Capone. Now do you want to do that? Are you ready to do that? I'm offering you a deal. Do you want this deal?"
So, the obama-criminal-enterprise can do worse than calling Mitt Romney a murderer, a felon, a tax cheat, a dog torturer? How much worse can they GET? I guess we should all be afraid and hide under the bed for what evil is coming in October? Not gonna happen. It's getting tiresome hearing about the "threats" of the great "chicago machine"! Are we supposed to fear a little adolph-wannabe like axelgrease? Don't think so. Let them bring it on and see what happens when it's over.
On the Lou Dobbs show last night, I caught the beginning of the lies. Judith Miller, attempting to paint Romney as a liar, had her clock cleaned by Dobbs. Loved seeing that. And, even after Dobbs presented her with the facts, she still tried to scream over him that Romney lied. She was completely out of control. BUT, cornered animals can be dangerous things.
The Secret Service has no control over how a POTUS chooses to self medicate. It is not in their brief. Their task is to protect the President from everything but himself or herself. There is a long history of absolutely atrocious behavior by Dimocratic Presidents, which include drugs, sex, and even murder by proxy.
I tend to think the blowback will be much less than the hype. You listen to people "on the ground" in Chicago--people who have their finger on the pulse of the city, and what you hear is among the masses their is a huge weight of apathy towards Obama. People can walk or drive around displaying RR ads this time without any problems. Now in 2008, it was vicious, but now? No one's fighting mad. Nobody's ready to lynch anyone. No one cares about Obama--he is the rock star that was but is no longer.
Be prepared by all means, but beware the conspiracy theories!
Didn't Sarah Palin say this the other day? But I actually kind of disagree. While the O campaign operation in Chicago will go on full attack mode, that doesn't have that much to do with Chicago politics. This is a one-party town. Democrats never go on the attack against Republicans because there are no Republican candidates to attack.
These won't be Chicago rules. These will be Putin rules. The press has already adopted them and now have no compunction about presenting lies as truth and keeping facts of failure by obi from ever being seen. At least with this debate the facts were seen on all channels. By the way Al, wasn't Romney in the same high altitude ? Maybe his brain just works better.
I tend to agree with the hype about dirty politics; no question the democrats would try, but ..... they have thrown a lot of dirt, controled the media, attempted to ram Obama down our throats; it's just not working. sooner or later, the flim flam man is revealed.
I see my lefty friends using the "Romney lied his way through the debate" garbage based on Think Progress and other leftists hack articles. The mainstream media isn't actually going after Romney on that, though, are they? Why? Because anything the "fact checkers" are showing as "lies" is more disagreement. Obama can be shown to have actually lied.
It's not that the msm is getting honest. They are seeing that Romney's campaign and the right aren't going to sit still for the same kinds of lies they pulled off during the Bush admin.
Or, another possibility, is that they're saving their forked tongue reporting for whatever trick Obama has up his sleeve for the home stretch.
Last election when Sarah said,"I was a Mayor. A mayor is kind of like being a Community Organizer except you are accountable to others." The Obama camp went ballistic. Soon after that they went after her family and that whole can of worms opened up. Hopefully, Mitt's sons are prepared for the attack.
This going to be a rout. I fully expect the deluge of slime to come pouring forth from Chicago, and Romney's family should be prepared to be hit by their "fair share" of it. Remember Letteman's dirty sex jokes about our gal Sarah's teenage daughter? The demons will be in full shriek. But it won't work, because it will be inconsistent with what people see and hear with their own eyes and ears on their TV's when Romney speaks during the debates. And what are they seeing?
Romney looks and sounds like the boss you always LIKED. Everyone has had one, maybe still do. He's the one you could count on to make a timely decision when you needed it to do your job. He'd listen to you, think about what you said, then send you back to work with a clear course to pursue. And he didn't just have your back if things got hinky, he'd step in front of you and own HIS decisions. You knew you could trust that guy. And you did. He was a leader, and he led from the FRONT.
And that's what people see on TV during the debates. The Obama campaign has no way to counter it, because all they have to sell is Obama. It's going to be a rout.
Chicago politics is the only way for Obama to win now. The public relations media will of course provide all the assitance that they can but, the people are beginning to see that they have no clothes either. More and more people are seeing the lack of integrity and credibility in the propaganda media, that is why youb are starting to hear some minor complaints and small attacks on the administration. They will be back in the "Little Christie Matthews" drooling public relations efforts shortly.
The Chi-town demonrats better be careful. America has now seen how incompetent Fauxbama is. If they see (finally, finally) how ugly the people around him are and how dirty their politics are, that'll be the last coffin nail.
We watch and maybe now we are learning how the Chicago corruption team deals with candidates. In my small city watched an assistant mayor, from Chicago, get the Democrat mayor re-elected. She did a marvelous job of marginalizing the conservative woman which delighted the liberal women? Strange. The President and his media backers tried to marginalize Governor Romney (and lie) but in a face to face their efforts were rebuked. The more experienced in business, politics, family and a descent man, whether it be by church or just his upbringing prevailed. Now we must do our part and get people out to vote.
It's a given that now the Dims will bring up all the heavy artillery that have. They don't have anything else to use. And it's going to be very dirty and savage. I hope and pray that Romney and his entire staff are fully aware and prepared for what is coming. And I pray that Romney and his entire family are very devout, practicing Mormons and there is no hint of dirt on any of them. Because right now you cant bet the farm that there is as entire company of dirt diggers looking into the pasts of anyone ever associated with Romney. This is going to be the worst month of campaigning that I have ever witnessed.
Did you see Drudge today ? ... unemployment down to 3% today or something like that, largest decrease in the history of the world in just one night ... and it only took Obozo getting hammered with the facts in just one debate... Obozo ordered accounting to "coook demmmm boooks !" yawn .. Chicago politics at its worst and was to be expected ..
Fine article and ample warning from Strassel. I put absolutely nothing beyond Obama and his crew. And back on the stump we once again see Obama in full, the unconfronted Obama, the bully.
And now we have suspicious unemployment numbers a couple days after Obama's game changing, epic fail. And the next debate will be townhall style. What manner of questions and questioners do we expect in the audience?
I will continue beating my drum: We need conservative mainstream media! Not just to win these elections, but to explain to American people what leftist radicals are about! I grew up in soviet union and I can assure you that propaganda works. It took the soviets ~70 years to get to the point where propaganda stopped working - after all the casualties, all the hardships, all the restrictions and putdowns... Everything was a problem: food, healthcare, housing, clothing, furniture, transportation, you name it. We saw rampant inequality between nomenclature bureaucrats and the rest of the country. EVERY store had back shelves to which only chosen ones had access. Nomenclature had their own hospitals, different set of medications (usually, manufactured in Switzerland or Germany), even bathroom hardware! You see Greeks and Spaniards blaming the government for corruption - duh, what else is new? Power corrupts, absolute power.... you know the saying! And keep in mind one very important thing: the crooks vet their crews. How mafia is recruiting new members - through very arduous vetting process. You think America is different? No, biologically people are the same. The only restriction that keep us in check is exposure through the objective, conservative, commonsense media.

Aside from his Massachusetts experience with Dems, Mitt saw almost first hand how desperately the Dems operate when cornered... He saw his good friend and former employee Meg Whitman who he was supporting get taken down in the Cali gubernatorial race with that nanny surprise wrought by despicable Dem operative Gloria Allred. So he knows full well what Dems are capable of when cornered or behind. BTW, since that election, Hewlett-Packard chose Whitman as their new CEO. The nanny issue was obviously bogus right from the git go.
Friday marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. This means that all things JFK are back in vogue from ghoulish rehashing of the details of his murder (what Mona Charen aptly termed “assassination porn”), to the generally moronic conspiracy theories about the events of 11/22/63 as well as fierce debates about the legacy of the 35th president. To some extent this is understandable. Kennedy’s death was probably the single most traumatic event for most Americans in between the attack on Pearl Harbor and 9/11. Moreover, as we have already been told endlessly and at length in
When I was a teenager, we loved to play baseball, and in my neighborhood there were two teams. Both of them were quite good, but they were bitter rivals. It was not uncommon for fights to break out when they played each other. On one very memorable day, a very boastful team from another neighborhood challenged our neighborhood to a game. Their team was quite formidable by reputation, and neither of our teams would likely have been able to beat them. We decided to put aside our differences and use our strongest players to form one neighborhood team to take up
Hendrik Hertzberg repeats a very common claim about the Democrats and 2016: A footnote: Hillary Clinton’s prominence points up the remarkable shallowness of the Democratic bench. Whether or not she chooses to run, the supply of plausible alternatives is shockingly thin. This gets things backwards. Whatever the quality of other possible candidates, the fact is that virtually no one talks about any other Democratic politicians this way because Clinton is presumed to be the overwhelming favorite. That is, the “bench” appears shallow because Clinton’s presumed frontrunner status crowds out any interest in other possible candidates, and so no one ever bothers to
Just when you were getting used to U.S. withdrawal from the Middle East, here comes our formal withdrawal from the Western Hemisphere. Yesterday, November 18, Secretary of State Kerry repudiated the Monroe Doctrine in a speech to the Inter-American Dialogue. Here´s what he said: "When people speak of the Western Hemisphere, they often talk about transformations that have taken place, but the truth is one of the biggest transformations has happened right here in the United States of America. In the early days of our republic, the United States made a choice about its relationship with Latin America. President James
In some parts of the world, a business leader who dares criticize his government would quickly find his company shut down or nationalized. In America, we pride ourselves on doing things differently. Here we operate by the rule of law. The $13 billion settlement announced Tuesday between JP Morgan Chase and the Department of Justice makes us wonder whether we’re really so different after all. On so many levels, the JP Morgan deal gives off a malignant odor. Why have an IRS if the government can generate billions simply by threatening a private firm with expensive, damaging and ongoing litigation? And why go through
He loves rap music, the Tea Party, and Cartagena, Colombia. Now Florida’s self-described ‘hip-hop conservative,’ Trey Radel, faces an arraignment on misdemeanor cocaine charges. At 2:44 p.m. on October 29, freshman Rep. Trey Radel (R-FL) tweeted that he “had some fun in the past few wks.” What kind of fun was he having? “On or about October 29, 2013, within the District of Columbia, Henry J. Radel III did unlawfully, knowingly and intentionally possess a quantity of cocaine, a controlled substance,” a charging document alleged Tuesday. The congressman has been formally charged with misdemeanor cocaine possession and will be arraigned Wednesday in
Washington´s been abuzz today over the Cheney family´s public dispute about same-sex marriage. The rift between Liz, the Wyoming Senate hopeful, and her sister Mary, a lesbian, had all the elements of a ´Game Change´ vignette: marquee names, internal conflict, even a hot-button social issue, and topped the homepages of the country´s major news outlets -- including this one. Meanwhile, the folks in Casper, Jackson Hole, Cody and Cheyenne seem relatively ambivalent. "These types of tiffs between the two sisters, that really isn’t the headline drawer for us," Kyle Roerink, the State Reporter for the Casper Star-Tribune, Wyoming´s most influential paper, told
I missed these ads while I was on vacation in the Middle East, but MRC and Dan Joseph didn’t. What’s not for women to like about being depicted as sex-crazed but otherwise unable to get your own birth control unless distribution is forced by Papa Government? Hey, it does appeal to the guys — especially the one who cheers the “working website” that even the Obama White House now admits is 40% missing. The women don’t seem nearly as enthusiastic about the depiction:
Here´s a thought experiment: imagine that activists, concerned with official misconduct, install license-plate readers on private property to track the location of every car belonging to the police department or a politician and upload the locations to a public database. The result: a map of where the police go, and where they don´t—along, perhaps, with politicians´ visits to motels or strip clubs. Given that police often respond with hostility to simply being videotaped, I expect that a venture like this would prompt an outcry, and probably some efforts to shut it down. But this is precisely what officialdom is doing to
Chad Pregracke, an Illinois man who has dedicated his life to cleaning the Mississippi River and other U.S. waterways, was named the 2013 CNN Hero of the Year on Tuesday night. Pregracke organizes community cleanups across the country through his nonprofit, Living Lands & Waters. About 70,000 volunteers have pitched in, helping Pregracke collect more than 7 million pounds of trash in the past 15 years. "The garbage got into the water one piece at a time," Pregracke said earlier this year. "And that´s the only way it´s going to come out." Pregracke was recognized Tuesday night along with the rest of this
Bill Gates is putting out a call to inventors,” the CNN story began last March, “but he’s not looking for software or the latest high-tech gadget. This time he’s in search of a better condom.” Incongruous as the story seemed, the former Microsoft titan had joined the struggle against sexually transmitted diseases. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation was offering a $100,000 start-up grant to anyone who could design a condom that didn’t interfere with sexual pleasure. Rachel Zimmerman, host of public radio’s CommonHealth, called the Gates Foundation’s initiative “truly inspired.” But was it? After all, the latex industry has
Rick Perry is in transition again, wearing glasses, playing the elder and running just a tiny bit to the left of Ted Cruz and a notch or two to the right of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. In a surprising twist, he looks like a conservative establishment candidate as the jockeying begins for the 2016 presidential race. He is still anti-Washington, still steeped in states’ rights and Tea Party rhetoric, still quite conservative, but not quite so eager to burn down the castle. He is turning into Cruz’s big brother: It’s the same family, but Perry wants to be the one
In the home stretch of the 2012 presidential campaign, from August to September, the unemployment rate fell sharply — raising eyebrows from Wall Street to Washington. The decline — from 8.1 percent in August to 7.8 percent in September — might not have been all it seemed. The numbers, according to a reliable source, were manipulated. And the Census Bureau, which does the unemployment survey, knew it. Just two years before the presidential election, the Census Bureau had caught an employee fabricating data that went into the unemployment report, which is one of the most closely watched measures of the economy. And a knowledgeable
Barack Obama is the coolest president we’ve had since John F. Kennedy, at least according to conventional standards for such things. Obama has always been a brand as much as a politician, one that has been perceived as sleek, smart, and up to date. Then along came HealthCare.gov. Its failure to launch is a signal event in the long political battle over Obamacare and perhaps an inflection point in the president’s image. It’s hard to maintain a sense of truly being on the cutting edge of change when you can’t build a website. Obama’s cool was, in part, an artifact of world-class
President Barack Obama told the Wall Street CEO Council Tuesday that his administration has "reined in spending" and "cut our deficits by more than half." "After years of trillion-dollar deficits we reined in spending, wound down two wars and began to change a tax code that I believe was too skewed towards the wealthiest among us at the expense of the middle class," said Obama. "And since I took office, we have now cut our deficits by more than half. Add it all and businesses like yours have created 7.8 million new jobs over the past 44 months, we´ve gone farther
Most women will tell you that other than the N-word, the C-word is the most vile in the English language never to be used. Cher apparently doesn´t hold such a belief, for she disturbingly took to Twitter Friday to call former Alaska governor Sarah Palin a "Dumb C Word": Cher ? @cher Follow Go to dictionary,& look up The “C"Word,....next 2 the definition...you’ll see a Pic of Sarah PALIN ! NO...WAIT ...SHES UNDER DUMB C WORD?? 12:11 PM - 15 Nov 2013 716 Retweets 834 favorites ReplyRetweetFavorite Three minutes later she put an exclamation point on it:
Carbohydrates are rotting our brains and contributing to devastating diseases such as Alzheimer’s, an American neurologist has warned. David Perlmutter, from Florida, believes that even ‘good’ carbs, such as grains, are severely affecting our brains. And the staples of our modern diet aren’t only increasing the risk of dementia, but contributing to depression, epilepsy and headaches, he believes. [Snip] The solution? Going back to the days when our diet was mainly fat--with this making up 75 percent of our diet, and carbs just 5 percent. Protein intake should stay the same as it is, at about 20 percent.
A downbeat President Barack Obama repeatedly asked his worried supporters Monday night to help resurrect his spirits, following weeks of political disasters and personal humiliations caused by the cascading collapse of Obamacare. The distracted president railed against opponents and at one point appeared to forget the number of people in the Obamacare system during the rambling quarter-hour address. “My main message is I’m going to need your help, your energy, your faith, your ability to reach out to neighbors, kids and friends [and] co-workers,” he told listeners to the Internet broadcast arranged by his grass-roots group, Organizing for Action. But his worried
WASHINGTON — Michelle Obama says she won’t wear shorts on Air Force One again because the one time she did, it created “a huge stink.”(snip)Mrs. Obama was asked about her biggest fashion regret. She said she’s always happy with her outfits but that, quote, “sometimes I forget I’m the first lady and I’m running around in shorts.” She recalled her family’s first White House vacation, to the Grand Canyon in August 2009. Mrs. Obama said her wearing shorts getting off the plane “created a huge stink because people were like, ‘she’s wearing shorts getting off of Air Force One.’” She said her thought
On Tuesday, President Barack Obama conceded that he will have to "remarket" and "rebrand" Obamacare as public confidence in him and the healthcare law he championed has plummeted. Speaking at the Wall Street Journal CEO Summit, Obama addressed the failures of the Obamacare rollout and said while he was confident that the healthcare model his administration built, which he claimed worked off of the "existing private insurance system," would succeed, the law would have to be rebranded. “We are going to have to obviously remarket and rebrand,” Obama said. “And that will be challenging in this political environment.” When he
Negligence? Absolutely. Incompetence? The case can be made. But scandalous? To suggest that the White House has willfully engaged in the intentional misleading of the public and an outrageous dereliction of its responsibilities to enforce the laws passed by Congress has been a bridge too far. Until recently. New revelations are now forcing even the most reluctant of President Barack Obama’s critics to concede that the Affordable Care Act’s implementation has evolved into a scandal. “I was not informed directly that the website would not be working, as the way it was supposed to,” Obama told reporters on November 14.
In an interview on BET last night with Bow Wow and Keshia Chante, First Lady Michelle Obama talked up her husband, President Barack Obama. "I always say my husband has got swag," said Mrs. Obama. "He’s got a little swag." The audience applauded. Mrs. Obama also said that the president of the United States "sings all the time." She continued, "Oh, yes, he’s in the bathroom all the time just singing." She also praised her husband. "[H]e has got a good voice." Here´s a transcript of that exchange:
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) says everyone should stop talking so much about the 2016 presidential race, because doing so hurts President Obama, who´s only a year into his second term. "In this sense, I feel badly for President Obama. He just won a year ago, and everybody´s like, ´So, who´s next?´" Christie said Monday night at the Wall Street Journal CEO Council. "There is work to be done in this country. And as we shove him out the door, we minimize his ability to be an effective executive. And we shouldn´t do that." Even as he urged people to focus
A day after his daughters´ spat over their disagreements on gay marriage spilled out messily into the public, former Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne, released a statement urging that there not be a "distortion" of Liz Cheney´s views on the subject. The statement came a day after Mary Cheney and her wife, Heather Poe, blasted Liz Cheney, a Republican U.S. Senate candidate in Wyoming for her opposition to gay marriage. Here is Dick and Lynne Cheney´s full statement on the issue: "This is an issue we have dealt with privately for many years, and we are pained to see it
