| Boston - “It looks like we have a backup NFL official moderating,” said one Iowa City viewer within earshot of GlobalPost's Jean MacKenzie. Jim Lehrer has been roundly and almost unanimously panned for his performance during last night's debate. From the get-go, Lehrer lost control of the discussion. He allowed the candidates to violate time limits, dismiss his questions and ignore the debate format. The New York Times' Allesandra Stanley wrote that Lehrer "presided over [the debate] with courtesy, fairness and absolutely no flair for enlivening the discussion." She suggested that Lehrer's performance was the best case for eliminating PBS

What I saw was that Lehrer wanted to give 0bama a free rein but kept trying to stop Romney who wisely would have none of it and demanded his equal time. Lehrer let them go at each other but did so in a way he though benefited 0bama more.

Read the article. Unintentionally hilarious. Yes, one of the first things about Obama that comes to mind when I think of him is his altruism! Obama lost the debate because he is just too intelligent and gentlemanly. Indeed. It feels great to laugh derisively rather than getting angry about the pathetic media.

Going after Lehrer was completely predictable. O is never responsible.
So bash Lehrer. Say Romney was mean and aggressive. Say he lied and somehow broke the rules.
Toss everything. See what sticks.
I am surprised they haven't blamed the audience or the color of Ann Romney's dress. The distraction of the 20th wedding anniversary must be considered. Al Gore already mentioned the altitude in Denver. And we know a President is a busy guy who can't just practice debating 24/7 and .....
And people don't understand, O won on substance. Romney on style. Style doesn't count.
And Barrack was just too nice to crush the bully George. Next time little Georgie gets whupped.

SO best PBS has to offer lost control of the discussion, allowed the candidates to violate time limits, dismiss his questions and ignore the debate format...isn't that his job?
I see why Mitt didn't care that the Libs picked all the supposed 'Moderators'...so he could diss them, take over and make Obama look like should, a bumbling fool...and get America on his side if they tried to stop him from answering questions!

It was great to see a debate without the media control for once. He was a moderator not a controller. Obama is not used to hard questions. There is no excuse for his failure. He got his first real vetting on Tuesday...finally, and he failed horribly.

I heard it too, #6. Jim would keep trying to rush Romney, but he let 0bama blather on and on. He finally gave up with the "assists" about half way through. It was like "You're on your own, Buddy. I've done all I can."
I've heard people saying all kinds of crazy things such as "0bama was trying to be a gentleman and act Presidential". That ship has sailed. He has been the most overly casual, colloquial, undisciplined Accidental President we've ever had.
I liked the format. The worst was the stupid bells and cutoffs. I

We at Townhall have been covering this hotly contested Senate race for months and the results are finally in: With 36 percent of precincts reporting, Elizabeth Warren has been declared the next junior Senator from Massachusetts. Warren has never held public office before and the eye-popping $40 million she raised this election cycle evidently proved more than enough to unseat incumbent Senator Scott Brown. This was the most expensive Senate race of 2012 -- by a long shot.

The Obama and Romney campaigns may be gearing up for a very late night, with one Obama campaign adviser predicting that in Florida alone, "they'll be counting until 2 a.m." The Obama adviser said signs suggest the race is quite tight, though the campaign claimed to be "holding strong" in key battlegrounds like Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The adviser also said turnout among black voters in Virginia was better than expected, suggesting that could be a problem for Mitt Romney. A week after Hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast, a majority of voters said President Barack Obama’s response to the crisis wasn’t a factor in their vote, according to early exit polls. Fifty-five percent of those surveyed, per CBS News’ early exit polling released by radio station WKZO in Kalamazoo, Mich., said Obama’s handling of the storm was a minor factor in their vote or wasn’t a factor at all. Twenty-six percent named Sandy as an “important” factor, and 15 percent said it was the “most important” factor in their decision.

As expected, the presidential race is tight in Ohio, where the polls just closed: President Obama is winning women 55 percent to 44 percent in the early CBS News exit poll, while Mitt Romney is leading 52 percent to 46 percent among men. Women made up 51 percent of the electorate, compared to 49 percent among women. Thirty-nine percent of voters so far identified themselves as Democrats, compared to 30 percent calling themselves Republican.
