U.S. Factory Orders Take
Biggest Tumble Since '09

Reuters, by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:PageTurner, 10/4/2012 2:05:27 PM

Demand for U.S. factory goods in August fell by the most since January 2009, but the second straight month of gains in orders outside transportation hinted at a less rapid loss of momentum in manufacturing activity. The Commerce Department said new orders for manufactured goods tumbled 5.2 percent - the biggest drop since the recession - dragged down by a slump in demand for transportation equipment that was telegraphed in last week's report on orders for long-lasting manufactured goods. Factory orders had risen 2.8 percent in July and economists had expected them to drop 5.8 percent in August.

I think we're already in another recession. Many long term indicators are going down and GDP has fallen for 3 straight quarters. Consumers spending is rising only due to gas prices, while incomes are stagnant.

Not unexpected this time. This just confirms earlier reports.

Even Reuters hardly bothers to apply lipstick to the pig this time.

ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA — Jose Calderon, 42, of Sterling, Virginia, was sentenced today to 30 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for engaging in a bribery scheme that resulted in the issuance of driver’s licenses to illegal aliens. Dana J. Boente, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Valerie Parlave, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office, made the announcement after sentencing by United States District Judge Leonie M. Brinkema. “Schemes such as this, trading cash for DMV documents, undermine the enforcement of our immigration laws and potentially threaten public safety,” said

President Barack Obama is out of gas. Pooped out. Gone fishing. Or rather, golfing. He’s just not that into it anymore. The republic is safe from any further vast left-wing legislative prescriptions for our ills. But Obama’s increasing job fatigue is, paradoxically, cause for serious concern. While he sits back, aides in the White House and in the agencies are busy enacting a stealth agenda of rules and regulations. And on the world stage, Washington’s withdrawal threatens national security. The president on display at Tuesday’s State of the Union is one who has shrunk from the pretension of becoming a president on

Argentina´s Luck Is Finally Running Out

Argentina’s luck is finally starting to run out. It devalued its currency by 15 percent last week, marking the beginning of a possible economic crisis of the kind Argentina has become known for. Argentina’s problem is that it has followed the logic of populism for more than a decade and President Cristina Kirchner is showing no interest in changing course. In the 1990s Argentina combined far-reaching but sometimes flawed market-reforms with irresponsible fiscal policies, culminating in its 2002 default on $81 billion in debt—the largest sovereign default in history. The country delinked its currency from the dollar, experienced a severe economic

Education: What does it take to turn an ordinary school official into a red-star commissar remorselessly yanking lunches from hungry kids and tossing them in the trash? Try an anti-school choice union and a big bureaucracy. It actually happened at Uintah Elementary School in the Salt Lake City school district. The story from the embattled school administrators is that a "child nutrition manager" sought to correct the arrears of parents´ payments to their subsidized lunch program ($2.50 a day) and, after giving a day´s notice, had food service workers yank the trays of served food right out of the children´s little

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Mayor Bill de Blasio may have harshly criticized New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for his administration’s recent “bridgegate” scandal, but for one night, at least, it was all water under the bridge. The pair kicked off this weekend’s Super Bowl festivities with a joint appearance in Jersey City last night. And if Mr. de Blasio had any lingering harsh feelings about the alleged traffic shutdown over the George Washington Bridge, he certainly didn’t show it. Instead, the bipartisan pair looked like old friends as they appeared on stage together to count down to a fireworks display at the

CHILPANCINGO, Mexico – Hundreds of armed men belonging to community self-defense groups occupied eight small towns near Chilpancingo, capital of the southern Mexican state of Guerrero, and detained a dozen suspected extortionists, a spokesperson for the vigilantes said. The action was taken due to the “federal government’s poor response” in ensuring the security of the state’s inhabitants, Gonzalo Torres, a coordinator of the Citizen Safety and Justice System, or SSyJC, organization, said Friday. The vigilantes said they seized control of the towns, all part of the municipality of Chilpancingo, because their residents are the victims of criminal gangs that extort and kidnap

Socialism: The huge currency devaluations that hit Venezuela and Argentina last week could be seen coming a mile away. This is a warning to the U.S. about big-government spending policies financed by printing money. The markets have given a resounding vote of no confidence to many emerging-market currencies, triggering sell-offs as far flung as Turkey, Russia and South Africa. But nowhere were the losses as catastrophic as those in two socialist Latin American countries that have thumbed their noses at fiscal discipline, ruthlessly used printed cash to expand their states and treated their citizens as cash cows, gleefully chasing out thousands of

It´s not surprising that homosexuality has become mainstream in our culture because nearly everyone has a relative or friend who is gay and we have been deeply influenced by those words of Harvey Fierstein who said, "I just want to be loved. As the commentary around the recent deaths of Nelson Mandela, Amiri Baraka and Pete Seeger made abundantly clear, most of what Americans think they know about capitalism and communism is arrant nonsense. This is not surprising, given our country’s history of Red Scares designed to impress that anti-capitalism is tantamount to treason. In 2014, though, we are too far removed from the Cold War-era threat of thermonuclear annihilation to continue without taking stock of the hype we’ve been made, despite Harry Allen’s famous injunction, to believe. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.—Peyton Manning is 37 years old. He has had four neck surgeries. He has admitted he doesn´t have the arm he used to. But despite all that, it took him until Sunday night to look truly helpless. Like he was staring at something even he, the most prepared quarterback in NFL history, couldn´t navigate. According to Nielsen TV data through mid-January, the average age of Fox News viewers is 68-years-old. In Frank Rich´s New York Magazine article, ´Stop Beating a Dead Fox´ he calls Fox News a politically conservative ´retirement community´ that´s losing young viewers at a faster rate than it´s competitors. The average viewers at MSNBC and CNN are 60, and the average is 62-64 for the broadcast networks. Not only are Fox News viewers old, they´re almost all white. Rich points out that only 1.1 per cent of Fox News viewers are black. That´s a far lower number than other news networks. MSNCB has a 25
