I once heard a brief radio news mention of increased incidence of thyroid disease and cancer in the surrounding counties of a WWII strontium 90 processing facility .......... But I was never able of locate a written news report.
There also have been mind altering chemical experiments on patients in military/V.A. hospitals, I believe, but these have also not gotten wide publicity,

My wife and I grew up in Missouri but left in our 20s. We're 60 now and are constantly amazed by the number of people we grew up with, who stayed, who have died or are dying of bizarre diseases. Seems like we know a dozen people with ALS.

All things considered this is a good article and I am glad further investigations are being made. I hope Congress keeps on it.
Anyone who was awake during the Cold War knew some mad science was conducted. By today's standards some incidents were close to murder. A few others were more like voodoo.
And not all of it was about the Cold War. Studying syphilis and drug addiction wasn't.
The class and race cards have to be played in every AP story about anything. That is some sort of mandate in the style book. If this had only hurt rich white people the AP wouldn't bother to write it up.

Mark Kelly, the husband of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), is threatening to back an election challenge against Sen. Jeff Flake if the Arizona Republican votes against legislation to expand background checks. At a Christian Science Monitor breakfast on Tuesday, Kelly said he would back an opponent to Flake if the "right candidate" was available and if the senator failed to support a background check bill, according to reports. Flake, who is not up for reelection until 2018, has been close to Kelly and Giffords. But Kelly said the issue of control trumped their ties.
