It’s Over
Power Line, by John Hinderaker

Original Article

I’ve been watching presidential debates for quite a few years, but I have never seen one like this. It wasn’t a TKO, it was a knockout. Mitt Romney was in control from the beginning. He was the alpha male, while Barack Obama was weak, hesitant, stuttering, often apologetic. The visuals were great for Romney and awful for Obama. Obama looked small, tired, defeated after four years of failure, out of ammo. One small point among many: Obama doesn’t even know how to stand at a podium, as he continually lifted up one leg.

I am so glad I got up the courage to watch this debate. Mitt Romney was outstanding. I thought I was going to finally watch Obama's head explode when watching the body language of the empty chair as Mitt was on the attack. It was a joy to behold, I can't wait to see the rest of the debates.
I cannot help but think there were a lot of answered prayers for our side last night as well. I wonder if Mitt has any idea how many people were praying for him before and during this debate.

I'm a total coward. No guts. I just couldn't watch. And then this site went down and I had to rely on a couple of other conservative sites for a report. I did finally gather up enough courage to turn on FOX for the wrap-up.

I'm guardedly optimistic this morning. We can't get too big for our britches. We've got a month to go, and the Lib/Progs are not going to take this gracefully. They will lie, cheat, steal, and even murder if necessary to keep the Marxist in power, so work your hearts out, those of you in the Battlegrounds, and pray, pray, pray, like you've never prayed before.

Oh, John! Here's another "small point": one stands on a podium, but at a lectern, which is what you meant, and ought to know.

The piece mentions Andrew Sullivan. I read some of his blog, I guess it was, tonight. Talk about alternate universe, even while admitting it was a Kenworth-roadkill-event.

BTW -- skip the after-article comments. Trolls from DNC and Obama campaign rallied enough to sully the thread with irrational talking points.

I remember coming back in from an errand last night and seeing Zipp0 on the stage and I could tell without listening to what he was saying that he had been caught in a lie. I got up at 40am to watch the debate here in Europe on CNN International. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I knew that Romney had cleaned Obama's clock in this debate, but I wanted to hear what the CNN pundits had to say after the debate. I was even more shocked to see them all admit that Romney had essentially won the debate. Well worth the sleep I lost this morning.

It isn't over. It has been a fun 16 hours or so for GOP supporters. But the first debate is already near its half-life.

By tomorrow night the Friday evening PBS shows will rate the debate nearly a draw and add that Romney lied about several points.

On the Sunday talk shows we will learn Obama won but Romney did rather well for an idiot. And he lied about every single point.

Jim Lehrer will take his beating and may even tell us it is only the GOP which criticizes him.

Still, a great start. And watching the agony of Matthews is as good as it gets.

We’ve heard it over and over again, particularly on shows like Morning Joe. Anyone who thinks that the government is “coming to take your guns” is a paranoid loon, watching for black helicopters and guarding their sheep from soldiers. Unfortunately for those formerly right leaning, Second Amendment minded folks who bought into this story, reality has come screaming up from behind well ahead of schedule. Following the passage of “The SAFE Act” in New York State, Big Brother got busy pretty quickly grabbing up the guns. Of course nobody was reporting on it very much

Close your eyes and picture the scariest thing you can think of. Maybe it´s a giant spider or a giant Stay Puft marshmellow man or something that´s not even giant at all. Well, whatever it is, I guarantee it´s not nearly as scary as the real scariest thing in the world. That´s long-term unemployment. There are two labor markets nowadays. There´s the market for people who have been out of work for less than six months, and the market for people who have been out of work longer. The former is working pretty normally, and the latter is horribly dysfunctional.

The budget released this week by the White House is by far Obama’s most ambitious statement of his legislative priorities since 2009, when, as a newly elected President, he produced a plan brimming over with initiatives like Obamacare, education reform, new spending to aid the depressed economy, and a cap-and-trade régime to curb carbon pollution. Obama’s 2009 budget presaged two years in office that were so legislatively far-reaching that, in Washington policy circles, the document was sometimes called the Big Bang. This new budget approaches the ambitions of 2009—with one glaring omission.

How did Terry McAuliffe, the Democratic Party´s choice to run for governor in Virginia in 2013, get so rich? His first job out of college was with President Carter´s 1980 re-election campaign where he rose to be national finance director at the age of 22. Then, after graduating from law school, McAuliffe helped found the Federal City National Bank in 1985. Three short years later, the bank´s board elected McAuliffe chairman, making him the youngest elected chairman of a federally chartered bank in the history of the United States. With President Obama, there’s always a catch. In the 2014 budget he announced last week, Obama proposed a more accurate way of calculating the inflation rate for annual cost-of-living increases in Social Security. It’s a technical change in pursuit of honesty and good government. And if adopted, it would cause benefits to grow more slowly, though almost imperceptibly so. Republican leaders in Congress ought to be delighted since they had “championed”—Obama’s word—the idea in the first place. Then came the catch. The president’s price for adopting this gentle reform was hundreds of billions in new tax increases.
