| The Karl Rove-backed American Crossroads super PAC and Crossroads GPS non-profit group spent more than $20 million in late September on TV and radio ads attacking President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats. And they’re not slowing down. The two groups are about to launch a week-long advertising campaign in key battleground states worth $16 million. That includes $11 million on a spot focusing on the stimulus bill and the unemployment rate. The Crossroads ad buys are part of a wave of spending from conservative groups in the second half of September that swamped liberal outfits,

Republicans must actually purchase their ads. Democrats have the media like Politico giving them theirs.

I see many of these ads because I live in Va. I haven't seen a bad (national race) ad yet. I can't say as much for George Allen ads I'm sorry to say.

They're on here in Ohio, and I think they are among the best.
It is interesting that Karl Rove, the architect of the Bush 2004 reelection that mostly focused on mathematical formulas and Get Out The Vote - has moved on to what the GOP should be moving on to: actually informing and giving the electorate reasons to vote. The GOP only knows the blasted phone calls - I'm done with that.

Thank you Karl Rove! Great ads! NO, "politico" they are "not slowing down!" Not 'til this is over, but it won't be long now! We can see Nov. 6 from OUR porch! The dunces at "politico" write about how much money the GOP is spending while their dear Leader is asking for birthday gifts and wedding gifts of money from his poverty-stricken- supporters! What a joke!

Investigators seeking answers in the deadly marathon bombings are homing in on a six-month holiday one suspect took to his native Chechnya last year just months after the FBI closed the book on a probe into his possible terrorist ties, authorities said yesterday. The widening and intense investigation appeared to include the arrests yesterday of two classmates of surviving bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. The two men were taken into custody in New Bedford on administrative immigration violations, authorities said. The pair had been released from police custody and returned home early yesterday to

Was this the first warning of the Boston bombing? From the Boston CBS affiliate, March 27 of this year: Investigators are trying to find out who is making and setting off homemade bombs near a section of Route 53. Residents in that area have reported loud bangs and flashes of bright light. On March 12, police found two unexploded bombs in a wooded area near Pine Street and Tower Hill Drive. Captain Jim Gallagher says they want to get to the bottom of who is making them. “They were simply small cardboard tubes, they are filled with what appears

There once were two planets, new to the galaxy and inexperienced in life. Like fraternal twins, they were born at the same time, about four and a half billion years ago, and took roughly the same shape. Both were blistered with volcanoes and etched with watercourses; both circled the same yellow dwarf star—close enough to be warmed by it, but not so close as to be blasted to a cinder. Had an alien astronomer swivelled his telescope toward them in those days, he might have found them equally promising—nurseries in the making. They were large enough to hold their gases close,

COPENHAGEN — It began as a stunt intended to prove that hardship and poverty still existed in this small, wealthy country, but it backfired badly. Visit a single mother of two on welfare, a liberal member of Parliament goaded a skeptical political opponent, see for yourself how hard it is. It turned out, however, that life on welfare was not so hard. The 36-year-old single mother, given the pseudonym “Carina” in the news media, had more money to spend than many of the country’s full-time workers. All told, she was getting about $2,700 a month,

It´s not easy being a Chechen. The family of Tamerlan and Dzhokar Tsarnaev, the alleged Boston bombers, have, like all their ethnic kin, led lives marked by violence and deportation. Chechnya is a small land in the Caucasus mountains that was one of the last places to be conquered by the Russian empire in the 19th century. Chechens are also Muslims. In February 1944, Joseph Stalin added them to his list of "punished peoples," whole ethnic groups who were deemed disloyal to the Soviet Union and subjected to wholesale deportation. Every Chechen -- man, woman and child --

A major American city was largely shut down for an entire day because of the hunt for someone who, based on initial reports, was quite possibly a confused, apolitical teenager, who may have been cajoled into taking part in what was essentially a bloody publicity stunt by his now-dead older brother. As the Boston Globe reported: Almost 1 million people in metropolitan Boston remained under siege Friday as police conducted a massive manhunt for one of the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings. The region felt as if it had been gripped by martial law:

CHARLESTON, S.C.- As the reporter said to the novelist: Why bother to make stuff up?For stories and characters, one needs only a pair of walking shoes in this city, where recent attentions have turned to two salacious stories. One concerns a murder-for-hire plot involving a banker, his wife, his lover’s ex-husband and his ex-lover’s husband’s cellmate. Not to be confused with his soul mate. No, that designation refers to the other story making rounds on the cocktail circuit. Yes, he’s back, but maybe not for long. Mark Sanford, the former governor who disappeared for five days,

In 1962, at the Carlyle Hotel in New York, a man “peeled off his clothing and began prancing around his hotel suite.” His bodyguards were cautiously amused, until the man “left the suite and began roaming through the corridor of the Carlyle.” The man in question was delusional, paranoid and suffering a “psychotic break” from the effects of an overdose of methamphetamine. He was also the president of the United States. The reason for John F. Kennedy’s bizarre behavior was that, according to an explosive new book, the president was — unbeknownst to him, at first — a meth addict.

After the capture of the second Boston bombing suspect, President Obama gave a Friday-night speech to praise private citizens and law-enforcement officials. He called the bombers “terrorists” and said, “They failed because the people of Boston refused to be intimidated. They failed because, as Americans, we refused to be terrorized.” Good, strong stuff — before he ruined it. Obama’s uplifting tone suddenly shifted into peevish scold as he warned against a rush to judgment “about the motivations of these individuals” or “entire groups of people.”He continued: “One of the things that makes America the greatest nation

“In this age of instant reporting and tweets and blogs, there´s a temptation to latch on to any bit of information, sometimes to jump to conclusions,” said President Obama, in the late evening of April 19, after Dzokhar Tsarnaev was captured alive in Watertown, Mass. Apropos of the #BostonBombers, CNN’s Jake Tapper tweeted this weekend: Big q is why FBI didnt keep an eye on/talk to Tamerlan Tsarnaev after he returned from Chechnya last year. So far from FBI: crickets. Tapper’s right. The FBI is not looking particularly good as far as their surveillance of murderous Caucasian Islamists on our soil is concerned. And Tamerlan, evidently , left quite a trail, from domestic violence to reportedly attacking an imam for holding up MLK as someone to emulate. Not exactly subtle. They were even warned about Tamerlan by the Russians apparently.

For Anthony Weiner, the calculation on running for New York City mayor is simple — it’s now or never. For Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer, it’s complicated. Weiner, the former congressman from Queens who left office amid scandal in 2011, is looking at a comeback this year. He has ties to two of New York’s best-known political figures, neither of whom has spoken publicly about him running. The FBI was last night hunting a 12-strong terrorist “sleeper cell” linked to the Boston marathon bomb brothers.Police believe Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were specially trained to carry out the devastating attack.More than 1,000 FBI operatives were last night working to track down the cell and arrested a man and two women 60 miles from Boston in the hours before Dzhokhar’s dramatic capture after a bloody shootout on Friday. A source close to the investigation said: “We have no doubt the brothers were not acting alone. The devices used to detonate the two bombs were highly sophisticated

THE graying man flashing fury in the Rose Garden on behalf of the Newtown families, the grieving man wiping away tears after speaking at the Boston memorial service, is not the same man who glided into office four years ago. President Obama has watched the blood-dimmed tide drowning the ceremony of innocence, as Yeats wrote, and he has learned how to emotionally connect with Americans in searing moments, as he did from the White House late Friday night after the second bombing suspect was apprehended in Boston.

In debate classes or law school, it is often referred to as the ‘arguing against the non-existing opponent’ tactic. The way it works is you imply your opponent is making an outlandish, unsavory claim (though he isn’t), hoping others will run with it or, at worst, that your opponent won’t sufficiently correct it and the claim sticks. To illustrate, imagine Sally is arguing in favor of marijuana’s legalization against Tom. In the middle of the debate, Tom suddenly shrieks: “Well, Sally, you can talk about legalizing marijuana all you want but I just don’t believe

BOSTON - The surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings suffered an injury to his throat and may not be able to talk, a federal official told CNN on Saturday, possibly hindering attempts by authorities to question him about a motive in the attack. With one suspect dead, authorities believe answers to a motive and whether the brothers had help rest with Dzhokar Tsarnaev, who was captured Friday night just minutes after authorities had indicated that a massive manhunt for the suspect appeared to come up empty. The official, who was briefed on Tsarnaev´s condition

Washington — The governor of Massachusetts says he has no idea what motivated the terrorists who exploded two bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Speaking Sunday on CBS’ ”Face the Nation,” Deval (deh-VAL’) Patrick said it’s hard to imagine why someone would deliberately harm, quote “innocent men, women and children in the way that these two fellows did.” Patrick also said law enforcers believe the immediate threat ended when the police killed one of the alleged terrorists and captured the other. The two men were brothers whose family had come to the U.S.

Washington - Boston Mayor Tom Menino says information he has indicates that the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing acted alone. Menino tells ABC's "This Week" that he agreed with the decision to lock down Boston all day Friday, based on information officials had at the time. He tells ABC's "This Week" that a pipe bomb was found at another location and that another person was taken into custody. The mayor did not elaborate. One suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-KHAR' tsahr-NEYE'-ehv), is in the hospital in serious condition. His older brother, Tamerlan, died in a police shootout

The two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings were not licensed to have the firearms they used in several shootouts with police on Friday, Reuters reported Sunday night. The news that the suspects were not authorized to own firearms will likely add fuel to calls for tougher gun laws – an issue that was put on the back-burner last week after the Senate blocked the central elements of a gun-control package backed by President Obama. Because Massachusetts state law bars handgun ownership for those younger than 21, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, age 26, was the only brother who could have

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A Massachusetts police official say the brothers suspected of bombing the Boston Marathon before having shootouts with authorities didn´t have gun permits. Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas tells The Associated Press in an interview Sunday that neither Tamerlan Tsarnaev (tsahr-NEYE´-ehv) nor his brother Dzhokhar had permission to carry firearms. He says it´s unclear whether either ever applied and the applications aren´t considered public records.

The most glaring fact about our president is that he is an empty suit. The people around him are also empty suits. They believe in nothing, really, but unearned luxury, unmerited adulation, and unaccountable power. Those whom we have come to call "leftists" are in fact nothing but nihilists, and we flatter them when we presume that they value anything beyond their vanities, their avarice, and their selfishness. When tragedy strikes, like in the Boston bombing, these empty suits can look and

Philip Mudd, former counterterror expert for the CIA and the FBI, joined Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday to discuss the nature of the threat posed by the Tsarnaev brothers and any network they may have been associated with in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings. He said the Boston attack reminded him more of the 1999 attack on Columbine than a terror event orchestrated by a foreign network. “I would charge these guys as murders not terrorists,” Mudd said of the suspects in the attack on the Boston Marathon. “Do you think we have to fear copycats – more of these small,
