A group of Republican senators today urged President Obama to work with Congress on cybersecurity legislation instead of ramming the languishing bill through by executive order. Democrats urged Obama last month to quickly issue an order to put into effect the legislation killed by a GOP filibuster in August. John Brennan, assistant to the president for homeland security and counterterrorism, told Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation Chairman John D. Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) in a letter last month that “following congressional inaction, the President is determined to use existing executive branch authorities to protect our nation against
Comments: Good luck with this. You know the King does whatever he wants to. We'll see if he ignores congress once again.
Lets see....story two days ago about white house being hacked....executive order on cyber security....coincidence ? I think not...the hack story was bogus and fed to the press to support the EO power grab
The escalting war between MSNBC’s Al Sharpton and Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly took an unexpected turn last night when O’Reilly revealed that he had donated $25,000 to Sharpton’s charity to help pay for Christmas gifts and dinner for underprivileged families in Harlem. Earlier today, Sharpton offered some choice words for O’Reilly in an interview, but this afternoon on his show he really let the Fox host have it. Sharpton pointed that like O’Reilly, he never mentioned the donation until now. “Bill doesn’t realize it, but this story actually reveals what kind of person he is… Bill gave that money privately
Fox TV Studios has pulled out of talks to produce a 4-hour-long NBC miniseries about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The two sides had previously been in contact over producing Hillary, starring Diane Lane as the eponymous politician. But Deadline reported this afternoon that “with the two sides far apart, and were never able to bridge the gap on the deal terms.” “The economics of TV movies and miniseries are challenging, which is why very few production companies take on such programs these days,” explained Deadline. “That includes NBC’s own studio, Universal TV, which would not produce NBC’s longform projects, including
It’s clear by now that if conservatives are ever going to even begin to roll back the overt, ongoing and worsening lawlessness of the Obama administration, they’re going to have to go over, through, or around the Republican party first. The GOP “leadership,” as presently constituted, is nothing more than the lesser half of the Permanent Bipartisan Fusion Government, content to munch its cud and occasionally low in the direction of constitutional propriety, and then resume its own modest but lucrative role in fertilizing the “two-party” system. As evidence, consider Bob Costa’s piece today on Senator Ted Cruz, and the
Speaking Thursday at a joint appearance with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Secretary of State John Kerry admitted that there were “many al Qaeda leaders now operating in Syria”—where President Barack Obama decided two months ago to provide military support to rebel forces fighting alongside al Qaeda to overthrow the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Asad. Asad is a member of the Alawite sect, which is a derivative of Shiite Islam; the Syrian rebels are predominantly Sunni, and al Qaeda is Sunni. According to the CIA, Assad’s Alawite sect represents no more than 16 percent of the Syrian population, while 74 percent
Egypt´s president on Friday suggested US President Barack Obama´s condemnation of a deadly crackdown on Islamists may "encourage violent armed groups". "The presidency fears statements not based on facts may encourage violent armed groups," it said in a statement responding to Obama´s condemnation of Wednesday´s carnage when police moved to disperse Islamist protest camps. "The presidency appreciates US concern for developments in Egypt, but it wished it could have clarified matters," said the statement published by the official MENA news agency. "Egypt is facing terrorist acts aimed at government institutions and vital installations," the statement said.
The Washington Post´s article detailing the fourth amendment abuses by the NSA got some push back from the administration who attempted to "edit" the article before publication. The internal audit referenced in the article was obtained by the WaPo from Edward Snowden. The details of the audit indicated repeated and growing privacy violations by the NSA, violations which included obtaining thousands of American citizen´s communications records and using methods of information collection that were later deemed unconstitutional by a court. The Post was able to interview John Delong, NSA director of compliance for the article and they were initially
There´s much talk about Chris Christie as the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016 (yes, already). Christie is certainly gearing up for a run, and has begun by attacking potential GOP rivals. But while moderate Republicans like Christie for 2016, he is their version of what Rick Perry was for conservatives in the 2012 race: a locally successful governor whose attributes will not stand up well on the national stage. Perry had much to recommend him as a national contender: staunch conservatism on most policy issues, and an economic record that even liberals would find attractive. But his Texas
Hillary Clinton has worked her way back in the news by making racially-charged remarks to the American Bar Association’s annual meeting in San Francisco. There is, she claimed, an ongoing “assault on voting rights.” But the only “assault” going on is a liberal assault on the truth about efforts to protect the integrity of our election process. Clinton’s polemic claims fit nicely within a calculated political strategy adopted late last year. At a December meeting in Washington, D.C., three dozen of the most powerful liberal advocacy groups providing money and manpower for Democratic candidates hammered out three agreed-upon objectives for

President Obama has tried to defend his health care plan lately by criticizing Republicans for trying to roll back ObamaCare without offering any alternatives -- despite the fact that Republicans have offered several. In a White House news conference a week ago, the president said: "They used to say, ´well, we´re going to replace it with something better.´ There´s not even a pretense now that they´re going to replace it with something better." Moments later, Obama elaborated, saying "they used to say they had a replacement. That never actually arrived, right? I mean, I´ve been hearing about this whole replacement thing for
The Senate’s most senior lawmaker said Friday that the intelligence community is still not being truthful about its snooping activities and how they may be picking up communications from Americans, and vowed to hold hearings when Congress returns from its summer vacation. “The American people rely on the intelligence community to provide forthright and complete information so that Congress and the courts can properly conduct oversight,” Sen. Patrick J. Leahy, Vermont Democrat, said. “I remain concerned that we are still not getting straightforward answers from the NSA.”
There´s a certain page on Facebook people of faith do not “like.” Created in February, the “Virgin Mary Should’ve Aborted” Facebook page originally included this controversial description, presumably speaking from Mary’s perspective: I´m here to explain what really happened in biblical times, since the bible is full of lies. My rapist´s offspring has destroyed the planet and brainwashed millions. Rage-quitting is for loose buttholes. Bible-believing Facebook users who are members of the group, “Catholics & Protestants Against FB Religious Discrimination” led the online fight to have the page taken down -- and succeeded. But, they didn’t have long to celebrate.
Washington -- Speaking from the Rose Garden of the White House on Saturday, US President Barack Obama said that he has decided to take military action against Syria-- but that he would seek the approval of Congress to do so. "I have decided that the United States should take military action against Syrian regime targets," he said, adding a second decision: "I will seek authorization for the use of force from American representatives in Congress." (Snip) Military leaders, Obama said, gave him the assurance that attack preparations were not "time-sensitive," and could occur "today, tomorrow or next month."
Secretary of State John Kerry will appear on all five Sunday talk shows this weekend, setting up the opportunity to make President Obama´s case on Syria to the public and to members of Congress. Kerry will appear on the Sunday talk shows for NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX and CNN. The practice of sweeping the whole Sunday lineup — known as the "full Ginsburg," for Monica Lewinski attorney William Ginsburg, who was the first to accomplish the feat in 1998 — is rare, and typically occurs when significant national or international news events develop. Kerry´s appearances will allow him to elaborate
Immediately following his statement from the Rose Garden on Saturday, which President Barack Obama said he would delay a strike on Syria until seeking authorization from Congress, Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer took to Fox News to slam the president. Krauthammer criticized Obama for the way he has handled the unfolding of events surrounding the crisis in Syria. “[T]he most astonishing thing is the lack of any urgency,” Krauthammer said. “As you say, Congress will be back in a week. He says, ‘I can strike in a day or a week or a month,’ as if he
Obama has surrendered. (Snip) The old omnipotent President Obama, able to make the seas fall, the child of the world uniquely equipped to build bridges everywhere, answerable only to himself, is gone. As America’s leader the old Obama handed Syria, Russia and Iran and huge victory. Gave it to them on a platter with his vaunting, invincible stupidity. In the process, not only has he shot America in the foot on the world stage but he will have emboldened the Ayatollahs to forge ahead with their nuclear ambitions. (Snip) He has also destroyed himself.
WASHINGTON — Facing faltering support in foreign capitals and Congress for a strike against Syria, the Obama administration on Friday made an aggressive and coordinated push to justify a military intervention on the grounds that American credibility was at stake. One day after the British Parliament voted against an attack on Syria, a stunning blow to White House plans for a broad coalition to punish President Bashar al-Assad of Syria for a mass killing in the suburbs of Damascus last week, President Obama and his top aides gave every indication that they were in final preparations for an attack that
The Obama administration is today still reeling from Thursday’s enormous setback to the Syria intervention effort, as the UK voted to reject military intervention in the war-torn nation. It is difficult to overestimate just how devastating this is to the President’s foreign policy. Britain has stood side by side with America in almost every post-war conflict. The one major exception was the Vietnam War, arguably America’s biggest ever defeat. Put simply, America wins when it goes in with Britain, it loses when it does not. And Britain almost always stands shoulder to shoulder with its strongest ally. So what happened?
Conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer predicted on Friday that should President Barack Obama make a misstep when dealing with Syria, he could spark a “major regional war.” In his column published in Friday’s Washington Post, Krauthammer alluded to the “guns of August,” a reference to 1914 and the build-up that led to the start of World War I. That reference was a comparison to the current situation in Middle East involving Syria and a pending U.S. strike over the use of chemical weapons, and how those seemingly isolated events could unfold into something bigger.
On Thursday, two women ages 32 and 24, were allegedly gang-raped by 10-12 black juveniles at Kosciuszko Park in Wilmington, Deleware. The attack reportedly happened at 6:54 PM when the women were sitting on a bench. The boys, who range in age from 12 to 17-years-old, allegedly assaulted the women and then fled. One woman called 911 and both were taken to Christiana Hospital. From MyFoxPhilly: "Initial investigation suggested the victims were in Kosciuszko Park when they were approached by a group of juveniles. The juveniles assaulted the victims and fled in an unknown direction," police said in a news
Barack Obama’s presidency has not been about restraining the powers of the presidency. On major issues both domestic and international — immigration, environmental regulation, the war in Libya, and more — Obama has shown no hesitation to act unilaterally in areas that properly lie within the purview of Congress. But now, the president says that even though he has decided the U.S. should attack the Syrian regime over its use of chemical weapons, he will ask Congress to give him permission to do so. It’s not entirely clear why Obama has decided to exercise restraint now when he has not done
WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama released a video message congratulating American Muslims on the many achievements and contributions they have made to American society from its early history to present day. The video, which will be aired today at the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) annual convention, highlights the myriad of ways the American Muslim community, and specifically ISNA leadership, has served as an effective partner in promoting inter-religious initiatives in the U.S. and religious freedom for minorities around the world. DC Mayor Vincent E. Gray, one of the convention´s keynote speakers, also recognized the significance of the American Muslim experience

First Lady and style icon Michelle Obama has come a long way from her preppy school girl look. The White House tweeted on Thursday a photo of Michelle Obama as a fresh-faced 14-year-old in 1978. The black and white portrait shows her sporting a collared shirt under a sweater and what is perhaps her best fashion accessory: her beaming smile. The tweet was accompanied by a link to a White House blog post about the First Lady´s call to arms for young people to be the "next agents of change" as she hosted a viewing of a new documentary about civil rights
