| TAMPA, Fl - The Pinellas County Sheriffs Office is asking for the public's help identifying the woman in the pictures climbing on top of the manatee this past weekend at Ft. Desoto. Reports say this all happened around 1pm Sunday afternoon, just north of the Gulf pier. Whitnesses in the area were able to give officers a good description along with the pictures of the suspect and where she was last seen. The woman is wanted for violating the state Manatee Sancturary Act which states that it is unlawful for any person, at any time by any means or

Comments: ("Accosting" is misspelled in the headline.) Manatees are arriving back in the Bay Area after summering in the Caribbean. It's always a pleasure to see these huge, slow moving animals. People should never try to touch them. This woman is in beaucoup deep kimchee.

That is one very stupid whale. And the manatee wasn't too smart to swim that close to shore, either.

PALM HARBOR - A father backed over his 2½-year-old daughter Wednesday evening with a riding lawn mower, severing her feet at the ankles and injuring her left hand. Jeremiah Nugent, 47, was cutting the lawn and about to park the mower in the garage when his wife, Nicole, 31, came out of the house, waving her hands at him, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff´s Office. Nugent thought she was trying to tell him he was about to drive over something, so he put the mower in reverse, the sheriff´s office said. He kept backing up until he realized

The hit HBO series "Girls," which is wildly popular with 20-something audiences, is also notorious for its frank portrayals of the dark side of the casual-sex culture reigning among America´s young adults. In the first season of the show, the main character, Hannah (played by Lena Dunham), finds herself in a dysfunctional relationship with an actor, Adam, whom she regularly sleeps with but isn´t dating in the traditional sense. She really likes him, though, so she asks him one day, during intercourse, "You want me to call you?" His response is to push her head down into a pillow.

Mann was put to death at Florida State Prison for the murder of 10-year-old Elisa Vera Nelson, whom he abducted as she rode her bicycle to school in Palm Harbor one morning in 1980. When a prison official asked Mann if he wanted to make a final statement, he said: "Uh, no sir." Fifteen minutes later, prison officials pronounced Mann dead at 7:19 p.m. He was 59. Just over a week ago, they were two little boys living with their grandparents and their family dog, Nati, in Tampa, Florida. That was then. First, police say Chase and Cole Hakken´s father broke into the home and tied up the boys´ grandmother before whisking the two children away -- just a day after he and the boys´ mother officially lost their parental rights. The 2- and 4-year-old boys ended up sailing to Cuba with their parents, triggering an international manhunt that ended this week. Chase and Cole are now back in Tampa, trying to resume their life with Nati

Being pulled out of a car at gunpoint by masked men while heavy metal music plays in the background would be a nightmarish experience for most people. Not so for the increasing number of people who pay hundreds of dollars to experience it. “It’s more or less a thrill entertainment of a kidnapping scenario,” said Shanel Hill, a professional abductor for the Detroit-based company “Extreme Kidnapping.” For about $ 500, you can get the four-hour “econo-kidnapping” package, or spend thousands of dollars for more deluxe packages that can run a full day. “Some people come to us because they

TAMPA — Federal and local officials have released little information Tuesday on the Hakken family, which reportedly was in Cuba on Monday. But CNN is reporting that one of its journalists in Cuba spoke to Joshua and Sharyn Hakken, who say their boys, ages 2 and 4, are fine. El Nuevo Herald, the Spanish-language newspaper affiliated with the Miami Herald, said Monday night that it had confirmed that the Hakkens were in the custody of Cuban immigration officials and were being attended to by U.S. consular officials. On Tuesday, CNN reported that Joshua and Sharyn Hakken were seen

He appears to be a threat for sure, though he is not threatening at all once you turn on the lights and see the hunting-lodge wall on his back. Make no mistake, Crist once was a real threat. TAMPA — They could be near Key West, in a cove or far out in the Gulf of Mexico by now. On Friday, authorities said the man who kidnapped his young children Wednesday is likely with his family on a 25-foot sailboat. And though the seas were choppy during Thursday´s storms, deputies say 35-year-old Joshua Hakken knows how to sail. Surveillance video even recorded him loading supplies onto the boat Wednesday, indicating the escape was planned. The U.S. Coast Guard and state marine units were scouring the water Friday. Civilian boaters also got a description of the sailboat

The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia has recently decreed that all churches in the Arabian Peninsula must be destroyed. “The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia is the most senior and most influential Sunni Muslim religious and legal authority in Saudi Arabia … His main role is to give opinions (fatwas) on legal matters and on social affairs. The Saudi court system is heavily influenced by the opinions of the Grand Mufti.” The Grand Mufti seems to have missed President Obama’s “New Beginning” Cairo speech. On that occasion the newly elected President showcased his personal knowledge of that faith.

Pro golfers, golf writers, and TV commentators are up in arms that Tiger Woods was only given a 2-stroke penalty for his illegal drop on the 15th hole yesterday. Tiger said last night that he dropped his ball two yards behind his previous spot, clearly violating the rule that you must drop "as nearly as possible" to your original spot. Golf people are not happy about it. They say that the new rule is B.S. (or it´s at least being misinterpreted), and Tiger should DQ himself to save the integrity of the game.

In Philadelphia, at a human abattoir on Lancaster Avenue, is where it ends, not where it starts. It starts with the perversion of language. It starts when the icons of a dissipated culture reduce a baby to a “fetus.” From there, Yeats’s blood-dimmed tide rolls rapidly in. Before long, a baby is not a person but a punishment, as President Barack Obama framed the matter in his familiar off-the-cuff iciness. Of course, to describe newborn children in their boundless possibilities and wonder would be to acknowledge, foremost, their humanity. That is why, instead, abortion enthusiasts must grope for words

Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), one of the architects of the Affordable Care Act, said on Tuesday that the healthcare law, set to go into full effect in less than eight months, is “probably the most complex piece of legislation ever passed by the United States Congress” and “is just beyond comprehension.” Rockefeller said he is concerned that early missteps with implementing the healthcare overhaul may cascade into confusion and chaos. The law, said Rockefeller, is “so complicated and if it isn’t done right the first time, it will just simply get worse.” Rockefeller’s consternation echoes comments made earlier this

They say they were just doing what the boss trained them to do. But eight former employees of a run-down West Philadelphia abortion clinic now face prison time for the work they did for Dr. Kermit Gosnell. Three have pleaded guilty to third-degree murder. And Gosnell, 72, is on trial in the deaths of a patient and seven babies allegedly born alive. In testimony at the capital murder trial this past month, an unlicensed doctor and untrained aides described long, chaotic days at the clinic. They said they performed grueling, often gruesome work for little more than minimum wage,

With President Obama, there’s always a catch. In the 2014 budget he announced last week, Obama proposed a more accurate way of calculating the inflation rate for annual cost-of-living increases in Social Security. It’s a technical change in pursuit of honesty and good government. And if adopted, it would cause benefits to grow more slowly, though almost imperceptibly so. Republican leaders in Congress ought to be delighted since they had “championed”—Obama’s word—the idea in the first place. Then came the catch. The president’s price for adopting this gentle reform was hundreds of billions in new tax increases.

Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.

A few hours after Margaret Thatcher´s death on Monday, the snarling deadbeats of the British underclass were gleefully rampaging through the streets of Brixton in South London, scaling the marquee of the local fleapit and hanging a banner announcing, "THE B@&$! IS DEAD." Amazingly, they managed to spell all four words correctly. By Friday, "Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead," from "The Wizard of Oz," was the No. 1 download at Amazon UK. Mrs. Thatcher would have enjoyed all this. Her former speechwriter John O´Sullivan recalls how, some years after leaving office, she
