Air Force Two aborts
landing attempt

Politico, by Donovan Slack

Original Article

Posted By:Drive, 10/2/2012 12:48:37 PM

Vice President Joe Biden had something of a bumpy landing Tuesday in Charlotte, N.C. Via the pool report: Just after 11 am, AF2 appeared to be on its way into Charlotte, having descended just below the clouds. Then the 757 abruptly pulled up and circled for about 35 minutes because of thunderstorms in the area. After a second, less-eventful approach we were on the ground in Charlotte Douglas Intl Airport at 11:40 am. The vice president, who was scheduled to attend campaign rallies in Charlotte and Asheville, emerged unscathed

Another non-story. The pilot determined that the weather was such that it was safer to go around rather than land. This would have warranted a story only if he had decided to ignore the weather and his best judgment.

Be still my heart. Biden emerged UNSCATHED. He's sooooo brave and claim. Really, Donovan Slack, are you having Matthew's tingles over Biden? Or is it just my imagination that you seem to be swooning by your choice of adjectives.

The real story here is that the taxpayers are paying through the nose to fly this mega-gaffing horesesass around the campaign trail in a 757.

The law of averages says that if you spend 24/7 in a plane (and this goes for both Obama AND Biden) you will have close calls. My advice is to stay in DC and do your jobs!

Just a thought from Periwinkel....

MANY American newspapers were doomed to decline from the moment the Internet arrived on personal computers. But The Washington Post, just sold off unexpectedly to Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, was never really one of them. This is something the sentimental send-offs for the Graham family and its stewardship tended to ignore. As disruptive as the Internet has been for journalism, The Post was uniquely positioned to succeed amid the chaos.

The highly lethal nerve agent VX -- used in weapons of mass destruction -- appears to have been discovered in a mail facility at JFK Airport where two US customs agents were sickened this morning, a law-enforcement source said. Both victims suffered respiratory distress and were taken for emergency treatment after being overcome while inside the US Postal Service facility on North Boundary Road at 9:40 a.m., the source said. Initial testing after the incident revealed the presence of "chemical-grade weapons and nerve gas," and subsequent testing produced a positive reading for VX, the source said.

Matt Damon Slams President Obama:

Famed actor Matt Damon is so disillusioned with President Obama that he almost feels as though the president dumped him. “He broke up with me,” Damon told BET in an interview published on the network’s site Thursday afternoon. Damon was famously a big supporter of Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, but that relationship has soured over the last five years, especially after this year’s big revelations about the NSA secretly collecting the metadata of millions of American citizens.

Let me just add one important observation to David’s splendid and much remarked upon essay yesterday about why and how the U.S. was victorious against Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany in World War II. Yes, we were ruthless in prosecuting the war — not only in Japan, with the atomic destruction of two cities and the firebombing of Tokyo (for a brilliant fictional treatment of the latter, be sure to read James Dickey’s To the White Sea), but also in the near-demolition of Germany as well. Every major city in Germany was destroyed and both Hamburg and Dresden

NEW YORK -- It was just a few minutes into Anthony Weiner´s door-to-door canvass of a Harlem public housing complex Thursday night, and the New York City mayoral candidate was already agitated. As he scanned his staff-prepared list of apartment numbers and corresponding residents´ names, the candidate shook his head in disapproval. "This is no good, the way you have this organized," he said to one of two young, female aides who were accompanying him. “This is N.G. -- not great.” A few minutes later, Weiner remained fixated on the quality of his staff’s advance work,

Apparently no espionage tool that Congress gives the National Security Agency is big enough or intrusive enough to satisfy the agency’s inexhaustible appetite for delving into the communications of Americans. Time and again, the N.S.A. has pushed past the limits that lawmakers thought they had imposed to prevent it from invading basic privacy, as guaranteed by the Constitution.

Tonight, I went on Lawrence O´Donnell´s show, and Lawrence O´Donnell yelled at me. Or, rather, he O´Reilly´d at me. That O´Donnell interrupted and harangued and mansplained and was generally an angry grandpa at me is not what I take issue with, however. What bothers me is that, look: your producers take the time to find experts to come on the show, answer your questions, and, hopefully, clarify the issue at hand.

In the relentlessly efficient world of Jeffrey P. Bezos, Amazon employees quickly learn when they have overtaxed the attention of their chief executive. He quietly pulls out his smartphone and starts replying to e-mails. In extreme cases, Bezos will walk out. This demanding style is as much a signature of the Amazon.com founder as his famously long-term approach to developing new products or services, say people who have worked with the man who this week agreed to buy The Washington Post for $250 million. Oprah Winfrey is one of the richest entertainers in the world, thanks to her willdly successful 25-season run on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and her latest media foray with the newly revitalized Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). The entertainer earned an estimated $77 million from June 2012 to June 2013 alone, according to Forbes, but she says she still experiences racism because she is African American. During his Wednesday appearance on Jay Leno´s "Tonight Show,´ President Obama made three factual gaffes; one of them involved the claim that cities not found along the Gulf of Mexico are. Not only did most of the media ignore or downplay these gaffes; the Associated Press went so far as to cover one of them up. In its coverage Thursday, rather than point out the president´s geographical error, the wire service made it look as though no error was made.

The taxpayer-supported Missouri State Fair is getting a lot of negative publicity in social media Sunday following a report of a shameful stunt that occurred Saturday night in Sedalia. During a press conference yesterday, President Obama revealed the existence of a sealed indictment in the Benghazi attacks in Libya on September 11, 2012, leaving some experts questioning whether the president broke the law. Federal law states that ´no person may disclose [a sealed] indictment´s existence,´ and that doing so may be ´punished as a contempt of court,´ a charge that carries a minimum sentence of six months prison. The announcement came as a surprise to some insiders, as the existence of a sealed indictment has not been publicly confirmed or denied by law enforcement or

Some people say that was not his birth certificate. I’m saying I don’t know. Nobody knows. And you don’t know, either, Jonathan. You’re a smart guy, you don’t know, either.” “I’m pretty convinced he was born in the United States,” Karl said.
