| Requests from military voters for absentee ballots have dropped significantly since 2008, according to newly released statistics, prompting claims that the Department of Defense is dragging its feet in enacting a law meant to boost military voting. The drop in the battleground states of Virginia and Ohio is among the most pronounced. According to statistics released Monday by The Military Voter Protection Project, the number of absentee ballot requests by both military members and other overseas voters in the two states has dropped 70 percent since 2008.

Are the requests actually down and those in the military got regular absentee ballots when they were home or are the requests FOR the ballots being hidden or lost? I don't believe that fewer people in the military want to vote and not by the high percentage cited in the article.

Dark and ugly forces are at work here.
Our brave warriors go where they are told and depend upon the command for every movement, every meal and every piece of paper which might or might not be made available to them.
This is REAL Disfranchisement.
This is not a trend or an error.

It may have to do with the fact that there are fewer troops in Iraq. They will vote in person.

I suggest everyone who has a loved one overseas get them the necessary paperwork and send it to them.Use the mail or UPS or FAX but get it to them! Also alert their unit's JAG people and inform them these troops are being denied their right to vote. Then we hollar at the election people to expect votes to come in thru unusual sources - JAG people step in here and do their thing. THIS IS A CRYING SHAME!!! We need to bend every branch, twig and neck to get our people's legal votes recorded. Let's just think it through. You people know what must be done to do it. Let's move on this...Come on, people, let's get it DONE!! I they can die for us, the least we can do is help them vote!!

In 2000, it was Ken Bacon, Pentagon spokesnerd. Now DemocRATS have found a faceless way to get the vote suppressed. This must not be allowed to stand - but then again, it's pretty well too late.

As far as I am concerned. Mark Sanford’s win over Curtis Bostic in South Carolina’s First Congressional District GOP runoff represents an unanswered prayer. Sanford continues to combine his mastery of therapeutic psychobabble with an ill-fitting Christian overlay that should be a dead giveaway, as Sanford himself all but acknowledged last night. Sanford is, of course, on a journey of discovery — make that a very long journey, involving the false modesty of the royal we: “It’s been a very long journey. Ben Carson, the noted pediatric neurosurgeon, has become the target of a petition by Johns Hopkins students who want him removed as the medical school’s commencement speaker this spring. Dr. Carson became a media sensation in January when he questioned Obamacare and progressive taxation in a speech to the National Prayer Breakfast as President Obama sat just a few feet away from him. With his new prominence, Carson has apparently also riled some liberals, including these Johns Hopkins students.

Of all the arguments public-school advocates have used to hoodwink generations of parents into condemning their own children to years of state-controlled subservience training, one of the most successful is that without public schools, children cannot be properly "socialized," and will therefore be ill-prepared for life in the "real world." [Snip] The basic premise of the argument for public schools as necessary tools of socialization is that learning to get along, or fit in, with children one´s own age is a vital life skill. Is it?

The mysterious disappearance of about 30 dogs in southern Idaho has baffled animal control officials and raised concerns among dog lovers after a German shepherd was found with its head crushed in a suspected ritual killing. The missing canines range widely in size, breed and age. "The dogs seem to vanish into thin air," said Debbie Blackwood, director of the animal shelter in Twin Falls, Idaho. Officials say some 30 dogs have gone missing in recent months in Twin Falls and nearby communities in an agricultural region in south-central Idaho known as the Magic Valley.

Not since 1984 and the landslide victory of Ronald Reagan have the Republicans had a more winnable election than the 2012 presidential election. Yet the Republican Establishment managed to lose to the worst and most vulnerable President in modern history, with historically poor approval ratings, unemployment averaging over 8.7% during his entire first term, a stagnant economy and someone who ran the smallest and most absurd of all possible re-election campaigns.

The Chicago Police Department is one of many around the nation that now accepts that law enforcement officers, like America’s combat soldiers, suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. CBS 2’s Mike Parker profiles a family that believes one of their own — a third generation cop — was afflicted with PTSD when he took his own life last month. [Snip] Toward the end, he told his family he was “overwhelmed” by what he was experiencing on the job: the bodies, the violence and especially crime’s effect on children. Michelle Obama has admitted that she is already tired of the bangs she first sported in January. The First Lady said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: ´Bangs are a day-by-day proposition. They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

Her betrayal consists of being gauche enough to acknowledge publicly a truth that everyone who’s come up through Ivy League culture knows intuitively —

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.
