| In case you missed it over the weekend, the Obama administration's Friday afternoon document drop was a memo from the Department of Labor telling defense contractors not to provide legally-required notice to thousands of employees that they are about to be laid off, if automatic spending cuts agreed to by the President and the Congress take effect. (Snip) When the administration first proposed this idea back in June, defense contractors patiently explained to the reelection-obsessed President that there is a law, the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification ("WARN") Act of 1988, that requires federal contractors to tell employees 60 days

OK ,so someone tell me where the "payoff" money comes from ? I assume the House of Representatives will shell the money out, so why aren't these contractors told they get no dough from us taxpayers ?

Those defense contractors saved a lot of paper, as all this confusion and political wrangling over this labor law ensures that just about every employee of a defense contractor knows about the possible layoffs and certainly will take that into consideration before they vote on election day.

There seems to be no amount of lawlessness or egregious behavior that can get average conservative citizens out of their chairs and on the streets. This is our fault, not the Republicans in Congress because for years now, voting every 2 to 4 years isn't sufficient to motivate the elites.

I agree with #9 and #11. Romney should be loudly, publicly announcing that his administration will return us to a rule of law and that any Federal Contractor found to be in violation of the WARN act will be answering not only to former employees but to prosecutors from the DOJ.

We at Townhall have been covering this hotly contested Senate race for months and the results are finally in: With 36 percent of precincts reporting, Elizabeth Warren has been declared the next junior Senator from Massachusetts. Warren has never held public office before and the eye-popping $40 million she raised this election cycle evidently proved more than enough to unseat incumbent Senator Scott Brown. This was the most expensive Senate race of 2012 -- by a long shot.

The Obama and Romney campaigns may be gearing up for a very late night, with one Obama campaign adviser predicting that in Florida alone, "they'll be counting until 2 a.m." The Obama adviser said signs suggest the race is quite tight, though the campaign claimed to be "holding strong" in key battlegrounds like Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The adviser also said turnout among black voters in Virginia was better than expected, suggesting that could be a problem for Mitt Romney. A week after Hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast, a majority of voters said President Barack Obama’s response to the crisis wasn’t a factor in their vote, according to early exit polls. Fifty-five percent of those surveyed, per CBS News’ early exit polling released by radio station WKZO in Kalamazoo, Mich., said Obama’s handling of the storm was a minor factor in their vote or wasn’t a factor at all. As expected, the presidential race is tight in Ohio, where the polls just closed: President Obama is winning women 55 percent to 44 percent in the early CBS News exit poll, while Mitt Romney is leading 52 percent to 46 percent among men. Women made up 51 percent of the electorate, compared to 49 percent among women.
