Meet the Ohio Voters Who
Are Killing Romney's Campaign

Atlantic (Boston, MA), by Molly Ball

Original Article

Posted By:Quaestio, 10/1/2012 1:22:08 PM

This ought to be the place where President Obama's reelection hopes went to die. In the coal-mining country of southeastern Ohio, half an hour from the West Virginia border, I expected to find a potent stew of anti-Obama sentiment. This area home to the downtrodden Appalachian whites who have never much trusted the president -- but, now, thanks to cultural resentments and the coal industry's decline, they're practically in open revolt.

Comments:
I really believe we are witness to the end result of a decades long plan to destroy the U.S. from within. Apparently Ohio is infested with people who believe 'Romney is for the rich.' Well, I suppose Obama is for the poor, because when he wins that's all that will exist. . .

Lincoln said that a house divided cannot stand. The communists control the schools, colleges, and media. There is no way to deprogram the dependents, the rabid leftists, the intelligencia Marxists, and those who choose to remain ignorant. There are too many of them in the key electoral districts. Please, try to convince me I am wrong!

After reading this and the surprising comments from coal country residents who still may vote Obama, I have a question. Where is all the campaign money to carpet bomb the Ohio countryside with Romney surrogates explaining things to these folks? Surely the campaign must realize this?

The comment after the article from JPuck tells me that this person, as with many, I'm sure, probably has (not owns, has) an Obama phone and needs psychiatric help.

It's pretty simple. It's greed. Most everybody in Ohio works for a union. It doesn't get any simpler. They don't want to jeopardize their cushy lifestyle.

By no means am I a Mensa candidate...but these people are downright stupid. Killing Romneys' campaign? How about killing their own means to earn a living? Man, you CAN'T fix stupid can ya?

60 years of postwar 'education' has left generations intentionally ignorant, which in turn produces dependency and resentment. They go to work in a coal mine apparently oblivious to the fact that someone 'rich' had to build the damn thing in the first place. They believe with their whole hearts that a 'rich' person with one extra dollar in his pocket is a bad thing and that government should extract that dollar and pass pennies around to rectify such injustice.

They also believe in a large grove of money-bearing trees grown in the Potomac Basin.

I had hoped Romney would aggressively counter ads like the one in the article that appears to have brainwashed these people. Not being from Ohio, I wonder just what the campaign is doing there and in the other swing states.

I was originally from Ohio, my Father was a staunch Democrat, totally union man !!

They would screw him over, and tell him it was all the repubs fault.

It is taught to be a Union, Democrat "from birth", they know nothing different.

Glad I got out of there, and my mind was opened !!!

It is absolutely true. Democrats LOVE poor people. That is why they work so hard to make more of them. On the other hand Republicans LOVE rich people, that is why they work so hard to make more of them. So, the question is which would you rather have in office, someone who wants you to be rich, or someone who wants you to be poor?

Folks, don't believe the agitprop from The Atlantic. This reporter is basing her entire article on those bogus polls showing Obama way ahead of Romney. There is no way Obama is ahead of Romney in Ohio by that much. The polls heavily oversample Democrats.

Romney stiff-armed his base. That's why he is having trouble collecting donations from the masses.

When you are this far left of center, you will find exactly what you are looking for, regardless of reality.

Reply 26 - Posted by: Malia2012, 10/1/2012 3:04:58 PM     (No. 8902561)

Mitt Romney did not "stiff-arm" anyone. His campaign has been collecting more than $100 MILLION+ every month in donations. Doesn't seem like there is a lot of disappointment in his campaign. If some people want to believe a rag like the "atlantic" of MA. and a MoDo-wannabe like this molly ball person, so be it. But, IMO, they should not presume to denigrate what the Romney/Ryan campaign is doing in Ohio unless they are there. Thousands of people come to their rallies in Ohio, though it's hard to tell by the "coverage" from the "press". Just because the "msm" continues to beat the drums for obama day after day does not mean we are losing! Buck up! Good Grief!

My Dad was born in Ohio and got out of there to Kansas where they had no union - unions kill businesses and while I would not like to be a miner, I also don't believe that they are for bammykins either. We will see, hope and pray Romney wins by a landslide.

Reply 30 - Posted by: Delilah, 10/1/2012 3:31:59 PM     (No. 8902622)

I'm not even going to bother to read this tripe as last week I was down in SE Ohio driving rural back roads and saw nothing for Obama but lots of signs for Obama to 'Stop the War on Coal'. Those miners might be dumb but not self hating.

The down trodden are worse off by Obama help. He does not care about the poor, he uses them.

Reply 32 - Posted by: TrueBlueWfan, 10/1/2012 4:48:53 PM     (No. 8902764)

I live in NE Ohio and there are many more Barry ads than Romney ads. A friend in the Columbus area said it is the opposite down there. They are really working hard to win in coal country and believe they are succeeding.

If only they'd get on the ball and start distributing more yard signs - people up here are getting frustrated about that, otherwise I think Ohio will go Romney, and not by just 1 or 2 points either.

Reply 33 - Posted by: obviousity, 10/1/2012 6:55:34 PM     (No. 8902911)

Would someone with the knowledge please research what "plant" Romney was referring to in Obama's Advertisement? My instincts tell me that it was a very old, dirty and mismanaged one riddled with union malfeasance. Context, context, context.

#17, Molly Balls was writing for the liberal Las Vegas Sun before. I wouldn't believe a word she writes.

To the dolts who envy the rich, suppose you come in to some money. I suppose you couldn't wait to hand most of it over to the govt., right? I didn't think so.

The report cited United Kingdom diplomats, saying Pyongyang was demanding the U.S. president personally call Kim Jong-un as one of the conditions to relieve the current conflict at hand. Itar-Tass also quoted the U.K.’s Sky News as saying North Korea currently has eight nuclear warheads.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Los Angeles — Some people have had it with TV. They´ve had enough of the 100-plus channel universe. They don´t like timing their lives around network show schedules. They´re tired of $100-plus monthly bills. A growing number of them have stopped paying for cable and satellite TV service, and don´t even use an antenna to get free signals over the air. There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

Married couple George Harasz and Douglas Wirth of Glastonbury were supposed to be sentenced Friday in Hartford Superior Court under a plea deal, but instead withdrew from their agreement with prosecutors. The men had already pleaded no contest in January to one felony count each of risk of injury to a minor — a reduction from even more serious charges related to sexual assault....
