Richard Tisei is a nontraditional
Republican vying to
represent Massachusetts

Washington Post, by Paul Kane

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 10/1/2012 12:43:22 PM

WAKEFIELD, Mass — Richard Tisei is running a highly competitive campaign for Congress that could give Republicans their first House seat in Massachusetts in 16 years. And if Mitt Romney were going to have coattails, this is where they would be helping. But the gay, pro-choice Tisei, a former state legislator who helped Romney secure some of his most important victories as governor of Massachusetts, is not exactly the typical face of the Republican Party. And with the former governor trailing President Obama by about 20 percentage points in Massachusetts, Tisei is keeping his distance.

Comments:
This was sent to me for posting by an L-Dotter resident of Massachusetts. I wish Mr. Tisei good luck and a November victory.

Today's Globe has Tisei running ahead of his Democratic opponent John Tierney, whose family financial scandals are the stuff of local jokes. It would be wonderful if Tisei, Brown, and Sean Bielat, who's unfortunately running against Joe Kennedy III, all won. That would put two more Republicans in the House of Representatives and keep one in the Senate.

Nontraditional republican is the very definition of a republican from MA. They have little or no resemblance to what once passed for the republican party. But, then again, the traditional republican party no longer exists.

I hope the social conservatives take note -- we can win in blue states if we include gay fiscal conservatives in our tent.

"Non-traditional" Republicans come in two varieties: "Progressives" and Libertarians. I can live with someone who leans libertarian, but progressivism is a RINOvirus that has plagued the Republican party for too long, esp. in the the northeast. If this man were happy to keep his lifestyle private, it might be a different story. But IMO his open advocacy for that lifestyle makes him unacceptable because I suspect he would just vote with the Democrats most of the time.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — George Jones, the peerless, hard-living country singer who recorded dozens of hits about good times and regrets and peaked with the heartbreaking classic He Stopped Loving Her Today, has died. He was 81. Publicist Kirt Webster says Jones died Friday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville after being hospitalized with fever and irregular blood pressure. Known for his clenched, precise baritone, Jones had No. 1 songs in five separate decades, 1950s to 1990s, and was idolized not just by fellow country singers, but by Frank Sinatra, Pete Townshend, Elvis Costello, James Taylor and countless others.

Boston The heart-wrenching photographs taken in the moments after the Boston Marathon bombings show the blue-and-yellow jackets of volunteers, police officers, fire fighters, emergency medical technicians, even a three-foot-high blue M&M. Conspicuously absent are any clerical collars or images of pastoral care. This was not for lack of proximity. Close to the bombing site are Trinity Episcopal Church, Old South Church and St. Clement Eucharistic Shrine, all on Boylston Street. When the priests at St. Clement´s, three blocks away, heard the explosions, they gathered sacramental oils and hurried to the scene in hopes of anointing the injured

Secretary of State John Kerry suggested yesterday that Boston bomber Tamarlan Tsarnaev became a terrorist when he traveled to Russia in 2011: “We just had a young person who went to Russia, Chechnya, who blew people up in Boston,” he said. “So he didn’t stay where he went, but he learned something where he went and he came back with a willingness to kill people.” Of course it’s not yet clear what happened on Tsarnaev’s trip to Russia — he may have had direct contact with terrorist groups there, but we don’t know that yet. Does Kerry know something

Many commentators have criticized the Obama administration for prosecuting Dzhokhar Tsarnaev criminally, which entailed giving him Miranda rights and providing him with a lawyer. But apart from the wisdom, in principle, of promptly commencing a criminal prosecution in this case, the sequence of events raises obvious questions about what the administration is up to. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was captured last Friday evening. At that time, his condition was described as critical. He had been shot multiple times, had lost a great deal of blood, and doubt was expressed as to whether he would live. Nevertheless, by Monday morning,

You have heard the words. You know the narrative. Let’s not rush to judgment. These were lone wolves. They were self-radicalized. The system worked. The dots were connected. Osama Bin Laden is dead; GM is alive. Al Qaeda is a shadow of its former self. It is time for nation building at home. Add up all of those lone wolves, however, and pretty soon you have a pack. Which may be one reason the reaction of some liberals to last week’s terror attack has been so bizarre: The bombing of the Boston Marathon by two radical

As the 2012 presidential election drew to a close, Mitt Romney made the rounds in the important state of Pennsylvania with a closing message: “The president has run a strong campaign, I believe he is a good man and wish him well, and his family well. He is a good father and has been a good example of a good father, but it is time for a new direction.(Snip) The mainstream press coverage of the Bush presidency was not a sober record of history as it developed but rather a daily expression of the Kerry-Gore-Obama attitude toward the president.

The word in TV newsrooms has long been that “if it bleeds, it leads,” meaning that a crime story is often the fastest way to get media attention and coverage. It doesn’t even have to be bloody — witness the wall-to-wall coverage of the Jerry Sandusky sexual-assault case at Penn State last year. But the trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, currently America’s most grisly serial killer, has been an exception. Two weeks ago, Fox News contributor Kirsten Powers dropped a bomb on the mainstream media when she called them to account for failing to adequately report

Suppose the marathon bombings had been committed by born-again Christian Tea Party members on the dole. Do you really think that Gov. Deval Patrick would be hanging on to those terrorists’ welfare files even tighter than he clutches Lt. Gov. Tim Murray’s state cellphone logs from the morning of Nov. 3, 2011? If these were “domestic” terrorists, I guarantee you Deval would have coughed up everything by now, up to and including whether they were getting on-the-arm brand-name or generic prescription drugs. Hey Deval, I’ve got some news for you. Tamerlan doesn’t care if you release his welfare records.

Former CIA director Michael Hayden has helpfully explained, “This tragedy is the new normal.” Are you surprised that a whole city was ordered to “shelter in place” as one “knockoff jihadi,” in Vice President Biden’s term, roamed the streets? Don’t be. It’s the new normal. Are you shocked by the Obama administration’s dissembling in response to terror attacks in Benghazi? Don’t be naïve. It’s the new normal. Are you worried that the president proclaims “red lines” to deter dictators

The Boston bombers’ mother bizarrely claimed in interviews that the blasts that killed three people and injured more than 200 were nothing more than an elaborate ruse by the US government. “There was paint instead of blood!” a wild-eyed Zubeidat Tsarnaeva insisted in an interview with CNN. “It is some kind of show, spectacle . . . something like a really big play performed by actors.” And the bombers’ father, Anzor Tsarnaev, joined her at a press conference in Makhachkala, the capital of the Russian republic of Dagestan, where they demanded an investigation

The "seat-to-seat delivery" service lets Virgin passengers use their seat´s in-flight entertainment console to order a cocktail, a snack, or even a meal for a flier in any seat in the cabin. The unfailing reverence on the American right for Ronald Reagan is understandable. He was the only exemplar of modern conservatism to win the White House, and unlike liberal icons such as Roosevelt or Johnson or Obama, he presided over an economic boom and became beloved by voters not normally drawn to his party. No wonder that Reagan, long before his death in 2004, attained mythical status in the conservative movement and the Republican Party. But that myth has become a burden for the modern GOP. It has bound Reagan’s followers on the right to policies and positions that were

Unlike you, federal government officials are immune from charges of fraud. The executive branch, vested with all of the government’s prosecutorial authority and discretion, is not going to investigate its own operatives for carrying out its own mendacious policies. That is the story of last week’s Boston Marathon bombing and the frantic efforts of the bombers, the brothers Tsarnaev, to evade capture, shoot it out with police (two of whom they killed), and — we’re now told — detonate more bombs in Times Square. The Times Square non-attack is quite interesting.

President Obama´s weekly remarks: Hi, everybody. Our top priority as a nation must be growing the economy, creating good jobs, and rebuilding opportunity for the middle class. But two months ago, Congress allowed a series of automatic budget cuts to fall across the federal government that would do the opposite. Because of these reckless cuts, there are parents whose kids just got kicked out of Head Start programs scrambling for a solution.

Obama´s weekly address comes after Congress on Friday overwhelming approved a bill putting furloughed air traffic controllers back on the job, thus undoing one of the most high-profile effects of the so-called sequestration, the $85 billion in automatic budget cuts that took effect March 1 and hit federal spending across the board. WASHINGTON — Russian authorities secretly recorded a telephone conversation in 2011 in which one of the Boston bombing suspects vaguely discussed jihad with his mother, officials said Saturday, days after the U.S. government finally received details about the call. In another conversation, the mother of now-dead bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev was recorded talking to someone in southern Russia who is under FBI investigation in an unrelated case, officials said. The conversations are significant because, had they been revealed earlier, they might have been enough evidence for the FBI to initiate a more thorough investigation of the Tsarnaev family. Michelle Obama did not walk the E!-streamed red carpet before tonight´s White House Correspondents´ Dinner — she was already at home, of course — so our first glimpse of her black Monique Lhuillier gown came later, once dinner started. And damn does she look good. This is a sexier look on her than usual, with a sheer lace panel over her decolletage and a molded bustier-style top. She very wisely chose a dress that photographs well while she´s sitting down, Schiaparelli-style, with elaborate beading along her collarbone and fitted cap sleeves that flatter her arms. The Democrats proposed sequestration as part of a package to secure an increase in the debt ceiling, but they never expected it to go into effect. When it did, they felt double-crossed, apparently because they thought Republicans owed it to them to fold like a cheap suit, as usual. When the Republicans figured out that sticking with the sequester was a pretty good outcome–it represented a modest, but real, restraint on federal spending, which is what Republicans always say they want–the Democrats went to Plan B. It’s a strategy they have often used before: cut back
