Romney, MSNBC, and the McGurk Effect

| It would seem that MSNBC has been caught in an act that can only be called tantamount to journalistic prostitution. Ace of Spades reports (h/t Instapundit) that the cable news network ran a clip showing an airport rally where Mitt Romney introduces Paul Ryan and the audience starts shouting, according to the chyron at the bottom of the screen, “Ryan! Ryan!” and Romney interrupts saying, “No, it’s Romney-Ryan! Romney-Ryan!” This, of course, makes Romney look both churlish and pathetic at the same time. The only trouble is that the crowd wasn’t yelling “Ryan! Ryan!” it was yelling “Romney! Romney!”

On Friday, Joe tweeted re: Beck's website, he wouldn't dignify Glenn Beck's website by naming it. Then he tweeted he was " taking note" of those who disagreed with him. Nice. Real man of the people. Whatever has infected every other person at MSNBC (&NBC) has metastasized in Scarborough.

On its face, the whole MSM fabrication is absurd. Nobody would ever go to a Republican ticket rally and chant the name of the VP. Republicans don't deal in celebrity. That's the province of Dems, as in our "eye-candy" President.

Either should be enough to revoke their license.

Democrats, especially the current crop, have done this FOR YEARS.
How many times have we heard Barcky say something, that someone else in his Admin will ''explain'' later that what we heard him say, we DIDN'T hear him say, that he ACTUALLY said something else!
Not exactly the McGurk Effect, vis-a-vis chyrons and the printed vs. heard word, but the effect, I maintain, is much the same.
When you have printed vs. heard, you get McGurk. When you have heard #1 vs. person-in-authority heard #2, people tend to go with what person-in-authority says just because he/she is IN AUTHORITY and therefore, MUST BE smarter than us.
I also maintain, WE are not the morons they think we are. THEIR constituency, yes. But not us.
Got some misunderestimatin' goin' on over there....
(They do have a major advantage over us in the Cheat/Vote Fraud Dept., however. Suffragium caveo...)

Last week I substituted for a high school AP Psychology teacher. She had me show a video about this very effect.
I can't remember the title of the video, but it was something like "How do you know what you think?" It was about how easy it is to fool someone's mind. Magicians demonstrated how they fool people with their magic, a pickpocket demonstrated his skill, and a person who said one thing but a listener heard a different word when the words were similar. The ear hears one thing but the eyes tell something different. Very interesting.
Good to know that kids will be on to this kind of thing.

All of the alphabets should be hit with contribution in kind tax of hundreds of millions of dollars and then lose their licenses. The powers that be should be labeled forever as Democrat operatives and never allowed a broadcast license again or to work in the industry. When the 1st Amendment was ratified, there was no "yelling fire in a crowded movie theater" clause. Free speech was free speech. Someone abused that right and so some very slight restrictions were put in place. Now there has been a massive, concerted effort to dupe the American people by a group of journalists and broadcast journalists and new restrictions on them are certainly called for. The 4th Estate must be held accountable for its actions and as far as I'm concerned - those journo-lists can all lose their citizenship.

That MSNBC promoted an unchecked, untruthful video comes as no surprise. I would not have been amazed if I learned that they produced it, actually. FAUXtalk has become one of the norms at Old Media. They stop at nothing in order to spread lies and FAUXtography . .... MSNBC is particularly bold about their hatred of everything decent, and the stench of their broadcasting personnel is overwhelming.

The Congressional Budget Office released its analysis of the Gang of Eight’s immigration proposal today, and spinning is in full swing. The fact is, however, that the basic facts can’t be spun: the bill is a disaster. As with Obamacare, the Gang structured its bill to make it “score” artificially well from a budget perspective. They did this by delaying the newly legalized immigrants’ eligibility for most federal welfare benefits for ten years, which takes those benefits outside of the ten-year window that is scored by the CBO. But that cosmetic shift did little to conceal the plan’s baleful effects.

Are you ready for the great Sarah Palin Revival of 2013? The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidate is back from her exile at Fox News and, like the former child star played by Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, the self-described Mama Grizzly is ready for a big comeback. But to be blunt, she seems more like a relic of a bygone, little-missed era in showbiz-cum-politics. Indeed, she no more represents a viable future for the GOP than her 76-year-old “angry bird” running mate, John McCain. To give her full credit,

India´s state-owned telecom company, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, has been holding out as other countries around the world retire their antiquated telegraph services. Now, after delaying the move for two years, the business operating what is considered to be the world´s last telegraph service is finally ready to pull the plug, saying telegrams are no longer commercially viable in the age of digital communications. India´s telegram service had been upgraded in recent years — clerks now type up messages on computers

That’s the same day that National Review Online reported that, contrary to the IRS’s blanket denial,

Despite his evident reluctance to take America into the Syrian civil war, President Barack Obama appears to be traveling down that road step-by-step. He has decided the U.S. will provide weapons to the insurgents. If that action fails to transform the conflict, he will face increasing pressure for Washington to do more. And if he does, he risks involving the country in another senseless conflict — and ruining his presidency in the process. It may be pure coincidence, but the president acted only after Bill Clinton warned that the current occupant of the Oval Office could end up

Former IT guy Edward Snowden, 29, is not in a good position right now. He´s stuck in Hong Kong, waiting to be interrogated by Chinese officials. These Chinese officials are going to ask him to turn over thousands of secret documents he stole from the NSA, a client of his former employer, Booz Allen. If Snowden does what these Chinese officials ask, he´ll reveal American security secrets to one of America´s biggest security threats. If Snowden does not hand over documents to China, he may face extradition back to the United States where life in prison is a very real

The Congressional Baseball Game gives congressmen tired of shouting matches on the floor an annual chance to blow off steam on the diamond. There, the shot at clear victory, alien in the world of committee meetings and debates, inspires fever pitch efforts from both parties. Yesterday at Nationals Park, the Democrats hit boiling point early and blew by the Republicans 22-0. Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA), who has carried the team for the past two years, pitched seven shutout innings and drove in two runs with his four hits. There was no mercy on display. You don´t have to be a rocket scientist to know that the Republican party has a problem with the millennial generation. Americans born after 1980 voted by some 25pt for President Obama over Mitt Romney, while the rest of the electorate narrowly supported the Republican candidate. It´s my view that Republicans can do little to attract most Millennials – but privacy may be the exception. Our Guardian poll conducted by Public Policy Polling indicated that Democrats were more supportive of President Obama´s position on the National Security Agency (NSA) leaks than other parts of the electorate:

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

It is understood that a contingency plan is in place for the unlikely event that an attempt would be made on the President’s life. The Secret Service also have diplomatic immunity which will allow them to shoot to kill a would-be assassin without fear of prosecution. As part of the “evacuation route” plan, they would be able to spirit the President by chopper to one of the carriers where a jet is on standby to take him back to the United States.

Bill Ayers believes President Obama gets a “failing grade” for his presidency, and should be tried for “war crimes,” along with all living presidents who have engaged in acts of “terrorism” abroad. Sitting down for an episode of RealClearPolitics’ “Morning Commute,” Ayers told host Charlie Stone that, on policy, Obama receives a “failing grade” along with the “F-minuses” he’s given previous presidents like George W. Bush and Richard Nixon. “I don’t think he’s let anybody down,” Ayers added, pointing to how during the 2008 presidential campaign then-Senator Obama consistently declared himself to be a “middle-of-the-road, pragmatic politician.”

Distilled to a slogan, politics of late goes something like this: “I’m more fertile than you are.” It seems fecundity is emerging as the best argument for public office, policy or even citizenship. What was once an unconscious appraisal — Is this person strong, healthy and vital? — has morphed into the sort of explicit review one usually associates with an X rating. While male politicians have always strutted their stuff as a demonstration of virility and strength, most women until recently have had no such comparable public measures.

I kept waiting for the part when he would say something interesting, but, about three quarters of the way through, realised it wasn’t going to come. Judging from television pictures some of his young audience felt the same, after the initial rush of euphoria of receiving the rock star president in their midst had passed. This is not surprising, for we had already heard this number about the inspirational role of the Northern Ireland peace process and the Emerald Isle’s

Americans outraged by leaked information about two top-secret government surveillance programs are "not getting the complete story," President Obama told Charlie Rose in a PBS interview recorded Sunday for air Monday night - and the intelligence community is working on filling in the holes. One "legitimate critique" of the National Security Agency programs designed to track suspected terrorists by culling U.S. phone records and mining data from the servers of major Internet companies, the president conceded, is that because they´re classified, "the public may not fully" understand them. "That can make the public kind of nervous, right?"
