Lee Boyd Malvo, 10 years after D.C. area sniper shootings: ‘I was a monster’

| Lee Boyd Malvo said he remembers each of the sniper shootings in detail. But one moment — one image — stands out among the carnage of that terrifying time 10 years ago: “Mr. Franklin’s eyes.” Malvo remembers being in the blue Chevrolet Caprice, in which police found binoculars and walkie-talkies. He scanned the area to make sure John Allen Muhammad had a clean shot. He gave the “go” order and looked across Route 50 in Seven Corners at the target. Muhammad, hidden on a hill above, pulled the trigger. A bullet screamed across the highway, instantly killing Linda Franklin

Coward, coward, coward. Sub human, vile trash, complete waste of carbon. And yes, a very strong case for abortion. Let the pro-life arrows fly - the sad truth is that some people should not have been born.

Are you saying that Malvo cannot possibly be remorseful or that he could not have possibly manipulated? Don't get me wrong, I am not suggesting he should ever be released or given any more freedom within prison. He deserves to be in isolation the rest of his life. But I believe some people can turn their lives around. I have seen it myself. In doing so, he has an opportunity to make peace with God. If he is sincere, would you still deny him that?

How much tax payer dollars will be spent housing and guarding this vile person till he dies in prison?
Or, when will he be given a chance at parole? You know there will be a time when someone somewhere says "he's been in jail for so long...this old man" or something like this to justify getting him released.
Was it terrorism or just workplace violence?
Give him an Obama-phone so he can call out to his peeps!

#3: I acknowledge your sentiments. I believe in forgiveness and redemption, but I fully agree with #2.
I also subscribe to the Norman Schwarzkopf theory of forgiveness. During Desert Storm he was asked by some reporter if he could ever find it in his heart to forgive the Iraqi Army for the murderous atrocities they committed in Kuwait. The General said, "Forgiveness is between them and the Almighty. My job is simply to arrange the meeting."

Malvo is where he should be.
Building on what #3 said...Who a person is at 14, 15, 16, 17 is not who they will be as a fully-grown adult. I shudder to think that my brain would have stopped its decision-making processes at age 17 and I would have been that person for the rest of my life. I think about those children in the horrific militias in Africa. The tactics Muhammed used on Malvo were not unlike that.
Does this mean I think Malvo should ever walk free? No. But I do believe that people can be redeemed. I too am proof of that.

I'm confused, this creep is allowed to get up everyday knowing he will be fed, clothed and sheltered for the rest of his life. He can give interviews, read, write, paint, have a hobbie I suppose, but it is just awful to not forgive him or suggest that he should have paid with his life for causing the death of many innocents. Meanwhile, fully formed, healthy, happy, babies who are ready to see if they can be great human beings who can share their individual gifts with the world are murdered before they are born or while they are being born or even in some cases after they are born. That, I can't question. That is a 'right' I have to respect. Seems backwards to me.

For the fourth year in a row, Houston was the No. 1 destination last year for people moving possessions with a U-Haul truck. According to U-Haul International´s migration trend report for 2012, Houston was the main end point for drivers who rented a U-Haul truck one-way. The survey considered every city in the country, regardless of size, the company said. Two other Texas cities ranked among the top 10 cities for people on the move - San Antonio at No. 5 and Austin at No. 6.

Gun control supporters scrambled Tuesday to find 60 votes to pass expanded background checks on firearms purchases, hoping to sway reluctant senators ahead of a showdown vote. After spinning its wheels for most of the day Tuesday, the Senate set up a series of gun votes for Wednesday, including what has become the critical fight — a proposal to expand background checks to include all sales at gun shows and over the Internet, though it would exclude person-to-person private sales.

The deadly bombs that struck the Boston Marathon on Monday were fashioned from large pressure cookers packed with nails and ball bearings and hidden in black bags on the ground, said FBI investigators and a U.S. official briefed on the investigation. The construction of the devices, which killed at least three and injured more than 170, many of them gravely, showed signs of “training or knowledge,” the official said. A task force of federal, state and local law enforcement authorities ramped up a huge investigation Tuesday, but officials said they had no suspects or motive.

The bombs that tore through a crowd of spectators at the Boston Marathon could have cost as little as $100 to build and were made of the most ordinary ingredients — so ordinary, in fact, that investigators could face a gargantuan challenge in attempting to use bomb forensics to find the culprit. Investigators revealed Tuesday that fragments recovered at the blast scene suggest a simple design: a common pressure cooker of the kind found at most discount stores, packed with an explosive and armed with a simple detonator. A final ingredient — a few handfuls of BBs, nails and pellets

BOSTON — Andrew Ulrich has not been to war, but he now has seen its toll on human flesh, the damage that bits of metal can wreak when packed tightly in bombs and aimed low at unprotected civilians nearby. The physician saw it Monday, not in Baghdad or Kabul, but in the emergency room at Boston Medical Center, where he and his colleagues frantically treated injury after horrific injury to the legs and feet of 23 of the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. In December, I wrote about the habits that keep the Democratic Party’s bench noticeably shallow. In contrast to the GOP, which is currently hooked on primary competition, the Democrats have relied on their own ruling class, going so far as to replace Barney Frank–who finally gave up his seat after two decades and helping to induce the disastrous housing crisis at the end of his controversial career–with a Kennedy. This was after Democrats had a few years earlier tried to replace Hillary Clinton with a Kennedy. Now Democrats seem ready to anoint Clinton

On Tuesday, the US Senate finally passed a resolution to honor recently deceased former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) had been holding up the resolution over the resolution’s word choice. Fighting him on that was Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). Menendez was reportedly offended by McConnell’s language, which Menendez thought insulted other countries. McConnell, meanwhile, reportedly felt that Menendez wanted to water down the resolution to a very basic play-by-play of Thatcher’s life,

It is too early to say much about today’s terrorist attack on the Boston Marathon, but one thing struck me when I watched this video, which Steve posted earlier today, as well as other videos and photos of the aftermath of the explosions: The response to the bombs by the crowd at the finish line was, I think, exemplary. Sure, many people fled from the explosions, and reasonably so. But a remarkable number ran, as they say, to the sound of the guns, even though when two bombs go off, one might well expect more. Many of these were professionals. The finish line of a marathon is a fortuitous spot to bomb,

It was too good to last. For the last few weeks, the Obama administration has been showing more fortitude in confronting a belligerent North Korea than either the Bush or Clinton administrations had done. But last week, as I previously noted, there was a worrisome leak in the New York Times which quoted administration officials as saying that any response to a North Korean attack would be strictly proportional—which can only encourage Kim Jong-un to act, safe in the knowledge that the U.S. and South Korea will not “over-react” and bring down his criminal regime in response.

President Obama’s offer to trim Social Security benefits has perplexed and angered Democrats, but GOP leaders are embracing the proposal and rushing to jump-start a debate that will delve even more deeply into the touchy topic of federal spending on the elderly. This week, two House subcommittees plan to hold hearings on “reforms to protect and preserve” programs for retirees, starting with Obama’s proposal to apply a less generous measure of inflation to annual increases in Social Security benefits. Also on the table are higher Medicare premiums and reduced benefits for better-off seniors,

Protocol: President Obama declined to send a high-level delegation to Wednesday´s funeral of Britain´s Margaret Thatcher. It´s a measure of how little he values the special relationship — and a sign of his own smallness. Back in more gracious times, vice presidents routinely attended funerals of foreign dignitaries. As such, the presence of Vice President Joe Biden — if not Obama himself — would seem fitting for as significant a U.S. ally as the late Prime Minister Thatcher, if not out of warmth of feeling, then simply to represent the U.S.´ gratitude. In light of the explosions that have rocked Boston on Patriots’ Day, during the city’s annual marathon, NBC reporter Luke Russert took to Twitter to speculate that today’s horrific events could possibly be related to the 1993 government siege on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas — an incident often attached to conversations about “right-wing terrorism” and anti-government violence. “I was at Fenway Park w my dad and @mikebarnicle during Waco which was on Patriots Day in 1993. Speculating on possible link,” Russert tweeted following the explosions.

She accused Bush of being unavailable to the American people for the “first couple weeks” after the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Flake, who is not up for reelection until 2018, has been close to Kelly and Giffords. But Kelly said the issue of control trumped their ties.

"The notion that Congress would defy the overwhelming instinct of the American people after what we saw happen in Newtown, I think, is unimaginable." As we now move into the official Political Aftermath period of the Boston bombing — the period that will determine the long-term legislative fallout of the atrocity — the dynamics of privilege will undoubtedly influence the nation’s collective reaction to the attacks. That’s because privilege tends to determine: 1) which groups are — and are not — collectively denigrated or targeted for the unlawful actions of individuals; and 2) how big and politically game-changing the overall reaction ends up being.
