Ryder Cup 2012:
Herculean effort of

Medinah -The recovery was inspired by the Herculean efforts of Ian Poulter, who reeled off an extraordinary five birdies in succession from the 14th to secure his third straight win of the competition. José María Olazábal’s Europe are not dead yet. But for the contribution of Poulter, who with Rory McIlroy reeled off four birdies in succession from two holes down to defeat Jason Dufner and Zach Johnson one up, the Europeans would have been out of this contest altogether. On an intense and dramatic evening in Chicago, Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald also performed heroically

I am certain this won't be the pithiest comment you read on Lucianne.com today, but I must say that I LOVED Poulter's magenta golf shoes. I even Googled them (Puma, in case you're interested). Of course I'm rooting for the U.S. (-except Tiger), but I have to admit Poulter's 5 consecutive birdies were almost as pretty as his shoes...

It was nice to see President Bush there finally getting to enjoy some great golf. He was even sitting with Michael Jordan at one time. Waiting for Zippy to show up tomorrow. Can't be left out of such an important event - in Chicago even- doncha know.

Feast and famine at the Ryder Cup. A lot of mediocre play and yes, Herculean performances, too. The number of hard lipped putts today was unbelievable. It ended like the July 4th fireworks at San Diego, it all seemed to blow up at once. Poulter's an animal, criminently he's fun to watch.

The Ryder Cup is hands down the best sporting event. Significance with every group, three straight days, non-stop drama. Every two years is just right.

It occurred to me that zippy might stage a publicity stunt appearance at the Ryder Cup matches. Then I considered the security complication and obama's unpopularity with the American players and fans. Therefore he won't go. Instead, I expect the big brother to do a recorded for broadcast "inspirational" message for the team that NBC can show in program intro.

The format just lends itself to drama and suspense. We love watching it, and we've commented once or twice about the dynamics and how fun it s to see the payers as a team instead of individuals...it brings out different aspects of their personalities.

We are enjoying this enormously. And Poulter was amazing yesterday. Absolutely driven. And so good.

Re #2, you are wasting your time. That's the way Brits talk. They leave out "team" and treat the whole thing as a plural. No point in grammar-nannying them.

North Las Vegas, NV -With a satisfied grin, farmer Bob Combs watches the big truck slowly dump its greasy load, a Niagara Falls of yesterday´s kitchen leftovers that sends off a sickening spray as it splashes into a metal bin. The greenish-brown concoction — with hot dogs, corn, bright-orange carrots and bits of lobster bubbling to its surface — is ready to start a new culinary chapter. Just 24 hours earlier, these food scraps, albeit in decidedly more appetizing form, were served up to customers at lavish all-you-can-eat buffets on and off the Strip.

On "Hannity" Wednesday night, Steve Emerson broke the shocking news that a Saudi national, Abdul al-Harbi, who was first questioned in the Boston bombing, is going to be deported on “national security grounds.” A devout Muslim from Medina, anti-Jihad activist and blogger Walid Shoebat reports that he is a scion of a very powerful Saudi family with terrorist ties. When al-Harbi was first questioned over his possible involvement in the Boston Marathon bombings, it raised the possibility of jihad in Boston. But then, law enforcement started a succession of extraordinary and inexplicable actions.

The lyrics have nothing to do with Boston ... or do they? Charles Steinberg, a senior Boston Red Sox official, helps to solve the mystery. When the New York Yankees set aside their historic rivalry with the Boston Red Sox and honored Boston Tuesday night with Sox anthem "Sweet Caroline," the gesture didn´t go unappreciated. Neil Diamond, who wrote and performed the song for the first time in 1969, tweeted his thanks, saying: "Thank you NY Yankees for playing ´Sweet Caroline´ for the people of Boston. You scored a home run in my heart. With respect, Neil."

WASHINGTON — Attorney General Eric Holder is telling Congress that he is angered and frustrated over the Senate votes that scuttled gun control legislation. In a hearing before a House appropriations subcommittee, the attorney general says that he and the rest of the Obama administration remain committed to standing with the families of victims in the shootings in Newtown, Conn., and countless others who have lost their lives in senseless acts of gun violence. Senate Republicans, backed by a small band of rural-state Democrats, rejected tighter background checks for buyers and a ban on assault weapons

Yesterday, the most modest of gun control proposals died in the Senate. It would have expanded background checks to people purchasing weapons at gun shows and online sales, enjoyed 90 per cent support among the public and came on the back of the tragedy at Newtown. Yet, despite all that it had going for it, the Toomey-Manchin bill raised just 54 votes--six short of the number necessary for passage. “This is a pretty shameful day for Washington,” said Obama afterwards. It wasn’t exactly a red letter day for him, either. Why did the no-brainer bill fail? Four reasons:

President Obama angrily blamed the defeat Wednesday of his centerpiece gun-control proposal on lies spread by the National Rifle Association, calling it “a pretty shameful day for Washington.” “The gun lobby and its allies willfully lied about the bill,” Mr. Obama said in the White House rose garden about 90 minutes after the vote. “It came down to politics.” As he spoke, Mr. Obama was surrounded by family members of victims of the Newtown, Conn., school shooting. Also with him was former Rep. Gabby Giffords of Arizona, wounded in an assassination attempt.

Authorities on Tuesday revealed little new information about the terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon, the most high-profile bombing on U.S. soil in more than a decade and a tragedy that presents a new test for President Obama. Obama, like all Americans, is standing by, waiting for answers as to who planted two bombs improvised from pressure cookers at the finish line of the storied race, and why. Three Americans were killed in Monday´s attack and more than 170 others were injured. "Anytime bombs are used to target innocent civilians, it is an act of terror," Obama said,

While the media are bearing the brunt of public skepticism over the handling of the Boston bombing, the behavior of government is also eroding public trust. Yesterday´s promised but cancelled news briefing is just one symptom. Andrew McCarthy of PJM notes that "Misinformation rather than enlightenment has been the order of the day in the investigation of Monday´s terrorist bombing of the Boston Marathon," and that part of it is the natural outgrowth of the desire of investigators to keep the details of their investigations secret, so as not to alert suspects.

It failed to advance in the Senate, with a vote Wednesday afternoon of 54 to 46.

As we now move into the official Political Aftermath period of the Boston bombing — the period that will determine the long-term legislative fallout of the atrocity — the dynamics of privilege will undoubtedly influence the nation’s collective reaction to the attacks. That’s because privilege tends to determine: 1) which groups are — and are not — collectively denigrated or targeted for the unlawful actions of individuals; and 2) how big and politically game-changing the overall reaction ends up being.
