US consulate attack in Benghazi 'disrupted major intelligence operation’

| The attack on the American consulate in Benghazi in which the ambassador to Libya was killed seriously disrupted a major intelligence operation based there, according to briefings by Washington officials. A large number of Americans whose existence was unknown to Libyan leaders were evacuated from Benghazi even as fighting around the compound continued. The new briefings admit they were involved in CIA or other intelligence operations targeting Islamist activity in the east of the country, as well as securing some of the more dangerous weapons with which the country is infested. The revelations are being used by Islamist leaders

Comments: Please note: Stale-dated but posted with permission of Staff.
Sorry I missed this (posted on the 24th). Besides intel revelations, it says Islamist leaders are using this info against us--more proof the admin knew damn well, right from the beginning, that this was the reason for the attack, not the video.
Note in first sentence above that Spencer reports the info came from "briefings by Washington officials." Has anyone seen this given deserved importance in the MSM?

I posted the question earlier this week of what happened to the 20-30 people who were whisked away from the consulate and never mentioned again. Now I know. How do you have the vehicles handy to get that many away from one location in a hurry? I wonder what the whole story is here. It's coming out in dribs and drabs. I hope the families of those murdered make lots of noise.

I'm sorry, I guess it speaks to the level of distrust I have in my government, but I just don't know whether to believe this. It sounds like one more excuse. I admit that I know nothing about CIA operations and foreign consulates but, if there was a major intelligence operation, and officials were warned several days in advance of a terrorist attack, how did this go so badly awry?

It's just another case of the radical Islamists knowing what went on there, the US intelligence services also having the scoop and briefing the President on what happened there, with the only folks who have been left in the dark being the American people.

Perhaps that was the purpose of the video.... get'em riled up, provide the cover story, then issue their disclaimers and apologies as per Muslim dictates, then go on about the re-election as if it was all just ''a bump in the road.''
Hey, wait......
Of course they knew. How naive to even consider that they didn't.

When the pressure about lying gets too hot to handle this will be the excuse - that the admin had to cover for the CIA for security reasons. Although that has nothing to do with whether the attacks were preplanned terrorism the media will lap it up and carry the water for the preezy once again.

I read that a brigade commander arrested 113 persons, that they though took part in the raid.
113?!?
Apparently, this commander is braver than the pResident.
Mr pResident, When you invade a country, put "BOOTS ON THE GROUND" or stay out. You did neither, nor did you inform the host country of your invasion, and now we have a murdered ambassador as payment for your FUBAR policies.
You hustled them out because you knew they were there ILLEGALLY and did not want the host country to know of your deceit.
BTW, This was no random act of a lone assassin. This was, as I read, a full out assault by a combined force of ....wait for it........trained fighters ........milita. That means people with guns bent on destruction, not peaceful protesters.
This must have been a real struggle for life. I heard that the Navy SEALs fought 4 hrs after Ambassador Stevens passed.
And how's that Officer Brian Terry investigation going? Bouncing low level managers into retirement hardly seems justifiable considering you knew your AG does a "Sargent Schultz" when ever this is mentioned.
Is it November yet?

This is why skipping the daily intell briefs is such a failure. We are told 2 things, 1. He reads the daily brief, & 2 "He knows more than the brief". Now the briefs are written by subject matter experts, and are a condensation of very complex matters. Here is my take:
Brief: " We continue operations in eastern Lybia to accertain terrorist training operations and locate weapons stockpiles missing after the Arab Spring". Questions: How are we doing this? What is our understanding with the Lybian Govt? How many people? And on and on. At a briefing there are questions and answers, either on the spot or in writing. Reading it over the morning coffee he would have to pick up the phone and call in for answers. In either case the "smartest man in the world" should have been asking a lot of questions. It's obvious he didn't

This just keeps getting better and better. A small band of warriors gets onto a NATO airbase and badly damages 8 Harrier jets and kills the flight commander. Same day, they storm the embassy in Egypt, tear up the flag and party on the walls. Still same day they attack the Libyan embassy, blowing up an intelligence operation and kidnapping the ambassador. Obama has succeeded in royal straight flush - a combination of the worst elements of Pearl Harbor, the Iranian hostage crisis, and the Bay of Pigs. And the US MSM manages to sweep it under the carpet.

#17, why bother to inform the host country when he failed to inform his own country's representatives? He did not even consult with Congress before taking action, much less get a declaration of war as required by the constitution.
Regarding not having boots on the ground, Hillary probably thinks that she and Billy Jeff did OK with their Bosnian war fought at 15,000 feet and above. A lot of this is due to that woman's warped thinking and advice. Of course, we still wonder how much intel is being passed from Huma directly to the MB and the Islamists. Those hellians, Hillary and Huma, need to be fired. "Sometimes you just gotta let 'em go."

I felt the same way as everyone else about Obit's missing the daily intelligence briefings, but it has occurred to me that the problem is far more basic. He'd not have had a clue what they were talking about and/or would not have cared. We have heard from White House Insider that those wanting to "brief" him get 15 minutes max.

#5 - both sides of the principal partisan divide accuse each other of having a monopoly on pathological prevarication. But politicians of all stripes twist the truth for a living, making the self-righteous finger-pointing embarrassing for all.
#6 - if you believe in eternal punishment for injustices, then you must also accept that all such judgment belongs to Christ, and recall how what we pray for God to give others is also a request for God to give the same to us. Want mercy? Then want it for the whole world.

Thanks, #20. I don't know enough about the situation to deduce that Lebanon-based Hezbollah might have been responsible but there seems to be a similarity or two. Either that or Hezbollah trained Al Qaeda--or AQ figured it out themselves and informants will begin to disappear, or turn up in their constituent parts, just as they did in Lebanon.

Somewhere, a few days after the attack, I heard a report that the reason for the Ambassador and the ex-SEALS (perhaps CIA ops) was to find and recover US-supplied arms to the Libyan rebels that seem to have disappeared and perhaps fell into pro-Al Qaida hands.
Seems that Dear Leader(US)'s minions thought that the news that they had supplied arms that showed up in Al Qaida hands might have been poorly received even by the RAT-infested US media whores.
And guess what? I kinda guess that the Al Qaida types really weren't too much in favor of giving those arms back to the US. Their way of responding isn't to say no way .... they tend to respond violently.
Which, sadly, led to the deaths of the four. To cover up bad news (which, by the way, aforesaid mentioned RAT infested media whores seem to be doing extremely well) and insure the election of Dear Leader(US).

FTA- The paper said the CIA team had been playing a “crucial role in conducting surveillance and collecting information on an array of armed militant groups”. It quoted an official as saying its enforced withdrawal was a “catastrophic intelligence loss”. Included in the 30 other Americans rapidly whisked out of the country were " 12 CIA agents who are now “scattered across Europe and the United States” – something which is hindering the FBI investigation into the killing of the ambassador, Chris Stevens, and three other staff. The Candy In Chief has either been actively involved in the cover up or is not in the intelligence loop because of his preoccupation with tv watching , golf and rappers. Lay-Z and Jay-Z. Either scenario indicates extreme dereliction of duty. Meanwhile, the gerbil media like Dana Milbank , Chuck Todd, Scarborough and Brian Williams are focused on analyzing The View.

Unbelievable that the World Socialist Web Site provided a good deal of relevant information from the Wall Street Journal piece. (I didn't go to the WSJ because I don't and won't subscribe.) Here are snips:
. . . “It’s a catastrophic intelligence loss,” a US official who had been stationed in Libya told the Times. “We got our eyes poked out.”
. . . There is every reason to believe that the robust CIA presence in Benghazi after Gaddafi’s fall also involved more than just surveillance. Libyan Islamists make up the largest single component of the “foreign fighters” who are playing an ever more dominant role in the US-backed sectarian civil war being waged in Syria with the aim of toppling the government of President Bashar al-Assad. According to some estimates, they comprise anywhere from 1,200 to 1,500 of approximately 3,500 fighters who have been infiltrated into Syria from as far away as Chechnya and Pakistan.
The CIA has also set up a center on the border between Turkey and Syria to oversee the funneling of arms, materiel, money and fighters into the Syrian civil war. Given the relationship established between the US agency and the Libyan Islamist militias during the US-NATO war to topple Gaddafi, it seems highly probable that the departure of such elements from eastern Libya and their infiltration into Syria would be coordinated by CIA personnel on both ends.
The government installed by the US-NATO war in the Libyan capital of Tripoli was apparently unaware of the size of the CIA presence in Benghazi, though the agency was supposedly cooperating with Libyan intelligence officials in monitoring the activities of the Islamists.
There's just too much good info (quoted from the Sept. 21 WSJ) to snip. Go read it!

HELLO People!!! It appears that everyone is over-looking the most obvious thing. There is a traitor that told the Muslim Brotherhood EXACTLY what was going on in Benghazi - the fact that our ambassador was there was icing on the cake. The mooslims were there because they were tipped off about the covert intelligence operations. So, who's the traitor? - it was a joint effort - huma, rice, jarrett and the anti-Israeli that makes Cahtah look like a pikah - light worker himself - obambi. You'd better believe that this act of treason is what the top brass are talking about - outside the earshot of anyone in this outhouse administration.

This is sounding more and more like our intelligence operations have been completely compromised at the highest levels by a foreign power working in concert with the Islamic terrorists. The terrorists seem to know what we are going to do even before we do it. How did they know which helicopter to target in Afghanistan that had 26 SEALS being transported on it? How did they know all about our supposedly secret CIA operation in Libya and how did they know exactly when to target the "ambassador" and knew that he had little security? How did the Iranians manage to have one of our most secret and advanced drone planes given to them on a gold platter by somehow landing intact and in perfect shape on their territory? If Øbama was an agent working for the Muslim Brotherhood it would be easy for him to pass along details of our "secret" operations to the enemy. Why is Øbama trying to send half a Billion dollars to Egypt when it is known they stood by and watched our embassy in Cairo being attacked? Lots of questions and no good answers. Yet even fellow Repubs attacked and ridiculed Michele Bachmann when she questioned security around Hillary Klinton and her chief aide Huma Abedin whose family has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt? It sounds like our security under the Øbama regime has totally collapsed. The enemy could already have our nuclear codes. What better terrorist plot than to attack us with one of our own nukes? Øbama and the MSM could then pass it off as some kind of terrible "accident". Americans should be very afraid if we don't vote this corrupt regime out.

The size of the 0bama failure is underestimated. Thus the number one priority of the 0bama regime is to hide everything. BUT, if the intelligence operation was so 'major' and good, why didn't they see this coming and arrange to either flee or have adequate security before the attack occurred?

This is yet another example of why we cannot afford a Democrat President with today's media - they are efectively a DICTATOR, because they have no checks on them and use the media to divert attention away from things they want to hide, spread misinformation, and scapegoat their opponents.
"DICTATOR" too string a word, you say? Well, what do YOU call an leader who can order an American citizen killed without trial, or can order the US military to attack a country without even bothering to seek congressional support? What else do you call the leader of a Party that used its majority to "deems" a bill pased at midnight on Christmas Eve that nobody in Congress has read? Or a Party whose leaders arrogantly ignore and smear hundreds of thousands of people protesting their actions as racists?
Wake up folks, we have to toss these people out while we still can, and then economically destroy the MSM and rebuild it as an honorable institution.

Every thing stated pinpoints one thing. Barack Obama jumped the shark by declaring he -- Got Bin Laden and became #1 on the Muslim hit list. He added more insult by adding to his bragging via the movie he dreamed up for his October election surprise. He gave up the Seals to remove the threat then was stupid enough to target the Al Queda leaders via drone assassination. If he is being blackmailed it is to stay alive with the price that he allows any and all attacks against us without investigation or action. Perhaps the odor of rat squirming on a hot tin roof cannot be contained as a bump.

This plot is so sickening, so simple and completely idiotic!! It sounds like the work of a flunking freshman fiction writer from Podunk City College trying to win the Tom Clancy Award for best wild plot. (No disrespect to Tom!) We have treason, deceit, and every other uncivilized type of behavior going on. And my opinion is based on what I learn from the @#$%& News people!!! We must somehow purge ourselves from these people and start over.
We also need a new, stronger, more definitive and disgusting word for a leader who is beyond contempt to the nth degree. The word "quisling" was termed after the Norwegian PM disgraced his nation to the Nazis during WWII. I might suggest the word, "obamanation" for openers. We could have prizes and let the "girls" on the "View" judge the contest. No? okay forget that. Anyone?

1. Richard Spencer has some other articles in the Telegraph that are worth reading.
2. (#38) The press reported on Doherty's mission to ''locate and eliminate MANPADS shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles.'' The article lists the number as high as the thousands. https://rt.com/usa/news/libya-state-department-mission-147/
Makes you wonder where that stuff might be headed.
3. I suspect that Hillary and 0bama knew within hours who were behind the attacks. Rather than telling the truth or providing a non-committal statement they used the Bill Clinton playbook (embassy bombing, attack on Cole, etc.) to come up with a slightly plausible excuse of a video to deflect from their incompetence and to prevent American citizens from demanding action. The story only needed to hold up a few days until the next story was ready: terrorists committed the attacks. With the accompanying level of embarrassment, they expect the story to die. The real story may be one layer deeper: those who carried out the attacks were used by the US and its allies to overthrow Gaddafi--in effect making the US complicit in the death of its own Ambassador.

Once upon a time there was a government which had become infiltrated by the enemy. Even the country's intelligence service was infiltrated. Behind the scenes, the faction loyal to its Republic was fighting the infiltrators who were led by an individual who had won high office in the Republic.

maybe this is the way for the donks to destroy Petraeus.
I talked to a priest from Africa and said that at the time Kadaffyi was co-operating and turning in his Nuclear parts. He said that Kadaffyi had a different role anyway, He was sending out tongs to run the Christians out all over Africa. A lot of Africa is Anglican or Church of England. So the threat to Islam is the Christian/Anglican Schools and the Libyans ran off the Christians and converted the schools into Madrassas.

Those kind comments are very much appreciated--good to know I haven't yet lost enough brain power to render me useless! For instance, I was wandering about on the net a little while ago and found a very well-done timeline on The Benghazi Cover-up (sounds like a Ludlum book title). Please have a look--and you might want to make a copy in case it disappears or is changed:

#42, In an interview with Front Page magazine, Andrew McCarthy cites Huma Abedin's membership in the Muslim Students Association, which was created by the Muslim Brotherhood in 1962 to prevent students from assimilating in the US. Huma was on the BOARD of this organization, and worked on a publication affiliated with it, until not long ago.
She has worked with Hillary Clinton since being an intern in the White House in the late 90s. She most certainly, according to Andrew McCarthy, should not have a security clearance.

Hit enter too soon:
Another scary fact is that Obama, who has skipped many security briefings, also skipped briefings for the week before the Libya attack and for three days after!
I, too, wish to thank OP for her postings. They are always interesting, no matter the subject matter.

A senior Eurocrat sparked outrage last night after calling for the phrase “illegal immigrant” to be banned from the European Union.[Snip] She has instructed EU Commission staff to refer to foreigners who break border control laws as “irregular migrants” or simply “people” instead. But her attempt to dictate how the issue of immigration is discussed was savaged last night. UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage said: “Now the EU is even trying to change the language. “This sounds like something straight out of the pages of George Orwell’s Animal Farm. It shows that what we are dealing with here

His house, his booze, his drugs, his women and his 17 children were paid for by a benefits system meant to be a safety net for the truly needy.[Snip] This was one of the most horrible crimes committed against children in Britain in recent years. It was cynical. It was calculating. And it was done out of malice in a ham-fisted plot which went wrong. The trial spoke volumes about the sheer nastiness of the individuals involved. But it also lifted the lid on the bleak and often grotesque world of the welfare benefit scroungers--of whom there are not dozens,

A coral reef in Northern Australia severely damaged by warming seas has managed to completely heal itself in just 12 years, stunned researchers have found. The team found that being left alone to breed on its own was key. The discovery raises hope that other damaged reefs could ´regenerate´. The new research shows that an isolated reef off the northwest coast of Australia that was severely damaged by a period of warming in 1998. It was hit by coral bleaching, caused by higher water temperatures that break down the coral´s symbiotic relationship with algae that provide food for coral growth.

North Korea has transported two more missiles to the east coast, Seoul military sources have revealed, triggering speculation that it is ready for an abrupt missile launch. North Korea has loaded two intermediate-range missiles onto mobile launchers and hidden them in an unidentified facility near the east coast, South Korea´s Yonhap news agency has said. "It has been confirmed that North Korea, early this week, transported two Musudan mid-range missiles by train to the east coast and loaded them on vehicles equipped with launch pads," Yonhap quoted the official as saying. The official said the mobile launchers had since

As the US and China grow increasingly involved, Kim Jong-un must be brought into line if war is not to be triggered by an act of recklessness. There are two schools of thought about what lies behind North Korea’s increasingly frenzied posturing. The first goes like this: the rhetoric emanating from Pyongyang--including calls to “break the waists of the crazy enemies [and] totally cut their windpipes”--is no worse than their decades-old ritualistic promises to turn South Korea into a “sea of fire”. What we are witnessing, according to this theory, is nothing more than an inexperienced leader

Anyone who remembers the halcyon dreams of the 1990s, of civil society spreading the world over, heralding a new peaceful, global millennium, must marvel at the path the young 21st century has taken. Even those who paid attention to global Jihad before the millennium could not imagine how vulnerable the West would prove in the coming, wildly asymmetrical war. Those who, over the course of the last 13 years, have awakened to the ever-growing danger of Islamism and to the astonishing inability of decent people--Muslims and non-Muslims--to effectively oppose its aggressions, owe themselves a brief lesson in cognitive warfare, and

The political race many had anticipated would unfold in the 1st congressional district--the national comedian’s sister versus the once-disgraced governor angling for a comeback--is here. Former Gov. Mark Sanford won Tuesday’s GOP runoff over former Charleston County Councilman Curtis Bostic, according to unofficial results. Sanford now faces five more weeks on the campaign trail before a May 7 showdown with Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch, whose business background and moderate politics are expected to create a tight contest. Lowcountry voters haven’t elected a Democrat from the 1st District for more than three decades, but Colbert Busch already has shown

Michelle Obama has admitted that she is already tired of the bangs she first sported in January. The First Lady said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: ´Bangs are a day-by-day proposition. They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

Sen. John McCain says he doesn´t understand the threats from some of his Republican colleagues to filibuster a bill on background checks to buy guns. "I don´t understand it," the Arizona Republican said on Sunday of the threat coming from Sen. Rand Paul,Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Mike Lee and nine other Republicans. "The purpose of the United States Senate is to debate and to vote and to let the people know where we stand.” "What are we afraid of? ... If this issue is as important as we all think it is, why not take ... it up and debate?"

No one is more preoccupied these days with Hillary Clinton´s 2016 plans than the Beltway political class—not even the former presidential candidate herself. To hear some tell it, her decision will be dispositive for all other Democrats thinking of entering the race. And pundits and reporters aren´t the only ones positing the "The Hillary Factor": No less than the House Democratic whip, Steny Hoyer, told BuzzFeed, “I don´t know that anybody would run against Hillary…. If she runs, she clears the field.” It´s an understandable conclusion, given Clinton´s stature in the Democratic Party and her 70 percent

I hope all will look at a lifetime of service over some poorly chosen words.” Carson will remain as commencement speaker at Johns Hopkins,

On Friday, Sean Hannity brought Pat Smith, mother of the late Sean Smith, on his radio program. The 34-year-old information management officer was one of four Americans murdered in the Benghazi embassy attack on September 11, 2012. In the chilling interview, a distraught Ms. Smith, in tears, pleaded for answers and spoke of the efforts to silence her. Ms. Smith first relayed how her son, prior to the attack, requested additional security in advance and warned the State Department: He did tell them, ahead of time, he typed it into his little typewriter over there,

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

Susan Patton, the Princeton alumna who became famous for her letter urging Ivy League women to use their college years to find a mate, has been denounced as a traitor to feminism, to coeducation, to the university ideal. But really she’s something much more interesting: a traitor to her class. Her betrayal consists of being gauche enough to acknowledge publicly a truth that everyone who’s come up through Ivy League culture knows intuitively —

Los Angeles — Some people have had it with TV. They´ve had enough of the 100-plus channel universe. They don´t like timing their lives around network show schedules. They´re tired of $100-plus monthly bills. A growing number of them have stopped paying for cable and satellite TV service, and don´t even use an antenna to get free signals over the air. (Snip) Last month, the Nielsen Co. started labeling people in this group "Zero TV" households, because they fall outside the traditional definition of a TV home. There are 5 million of these residences in the U.S., up from

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”
