| Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) is coming to the defense of U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice — rumored to be his top rival to replace Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a second Obama term. "I'm deeply disturbed by efforts to find the politics instead of finding the facts in this debate," Kerry said in a Friday statement. "I’m particularly troubled by calls for Ambassador Rice’s resignation. She is a remarkable public servant for whom the liberation of the Libyan people has been a personal issue and a public mission," Kerry said. "She's an enormously capable person

Comments: The scary thought of either Kerry or Rice as SoS ought to be enough to get millions to the polls to vote for Mitt Romney.

How can an American ambassador be murdered along with three others and most just shrug their shoulders? This was total incompetence. I knew as soon as it was reported what was happening. Hello, it was 9/11, does that ring a bell? Mitt was right. Too many getting free phones, computers and internet connections, and all the "free" benefits they can sign up for. In other words obama voters. obama said as much himself. Rice lied over and over on instructions from obama.

What's to defend? On Sptember 16th, Susan Rice went on 5 Sunday network news shows and said the attacks on our embassies in Egypt and Libya were "unequivocally spontaneous attacks" because of the video. SHE LIED. SHE LIED, NOT FOR NATIONAL SECURITY REASONS, BUT TO HELP RE-ELECT OBAMA. The CIA, NSA, Sec of State and the President all knew on Sept 12 that this was al Al Quaeda attack. But they wanted to cover up to hide their incompetence in letting it happen with almost no security measures, and to take the pressure off of Obama having to respond. Obama, cowardly, has done nothing. If the American people knew it was a terrorist attack on Sept 12, they would have been demanding immediate response.
It is like if FDR suppressed the facts on Pearl Harbor for 2 weeks, calling the attack merely a demonstration by some lone Japanese dissidents.

To many in our cultural elite, Woody Guthrie is an American saint. The legendary songwriter from Okfuskee County, Oklahoma, is introduced to every American child by way of his folk anthem “This Land Is Your Land.” But for gatekeepers of the arts, Guthrie is much more: All of his work—every song, every article, every poem—is good and honest and true, the gospel according to Woody. What other justification is there for the release of this deservedly long-lost novel? Completed in 1947 but only recently “rediscovered,” House of Earth is an incoherent polemic interspersed with erotic scenes and rambling descriptions

Looks like it’s Let’s Make a Deal time this month, except perhaps for budgets, at least for the moment. At the same time the Senate has cut a deal on gun control by, er, making the status quo slightly more muscular, the Gang of Eight has reached a deal in principle on immigration. (Snip) The schedule outlined by the aides is meant to satisfy Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who has said repeatedly that he wants a full debate and amendment process, to maximize the chances that the final vote is an overwhelming majority.

‘Comprehensive immigration reform,” a deal on which is reportedly imminent, has a lot of moving parts — too many, in truth, as with most “comprehensive” legislation. Among the costs of comprehensivism is that debate over such bills often gets bogged down in the many details. Americans seeking to evaluate any deal should ask three questions about it to cut through the noise. First: Will it encourage future illegal immigration? This has always been the greatest risk of proposals to provide legal status for current illegal immigrants: that it will be seen as a reason for others to come here illegally

Long before Barack Obama dusted off his shoulders, Margaret Thatcher used a bright turquoise feather duster to sweep away the dirt of lingering socialism at the Conservative Party Conference in October 1975. Republican leaders in Congress received a dire warning on Tuesday from former Vice President Dick Cheney on the ongoing crisis in North Korea. “We’re in deep doo doo,” Cheney told lawmakers, according to a GOP leadership aide. Cheney added the current North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, is unpredictable and doesn´t share the United States worldview. One lawmaker present at the session, Rep. Steve Southerland of Florida, said Cheney wore a cowboy hat and "looked really good, spoke really clearly, lucidly.” “It was nice to see him doing well,” Southerland said, noting the last time Cheney was on Capitol Hill

How many federal agencies does it take to do catfish safety inspections? At least three, according to the Government Accountability Office, which on Tuesday released its 2013 report on fragmentation and duplication of federal programs. This year´s report -- there were two previous editions of the report first requested by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla. -- documents an estimated $95 billion in duplicative programs that waste precious tax dollars. That brings the three-year total of potential savings documented by GAO to $295 billion. Having three agencies doing catfish safety inspections may strike some as funny, but there is nothing to laugh about

Alan Dershowitz can be a frustrating man, but when he is good, he is very, very good. I witnessed his courage personally a few years back when I was part of delegation with him at the Durban II Conference in Geneva. Dershowitz was a one-man resistance band then, protesting the speech of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at that UN-sponsored festival of anti-Semitism. ‘This is about doing the right thing for all the families who are here that have been torn apart by gun violence,” President Obama declared Monday, promoting his “common-sense gun safety reforms” in a speech at the University of Hartford, where the audience included parents of children murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School last December. “This is not about politics.” Unless you disagree with him. “There is only one thing that can stand in the way of change,” Obama said, “and that’s politics in Washington.” Members of Congress have a simple choice to make,

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

The sequester may have many across the country singing the blues, but for President Obama, it was all about Memphis Soul. Even with the threat of furloughs and government cuts sparked by the sequester, Obama took the time to enjoy a star-studded concert at the White House tonight. The White House celebration of Memphis Soul music in the East Room--which included special guest appearances by Queen Latifah and Justin Timberlake--is likely to rile Obama´s Republican foes. In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

Although the first votes on gun -control legislation have yet to be cast, by some measures the National Rifle Association has already won. Obama’s ambitious plans to ban assault weapons and limit magazine capacities are off the table, while the NRA suggested it could support the most likely outcome -- expanded background checks -- as recently as 1999. The NRA claims that the president’s efforts have triggered a fundraising surge and boosted its membership from 4 million to nearly 5 million.
