| U.S. banks have been buffeted by more than a week of powerful cyberattacks, but the mystery surrounding their perpetrators lingers. One expert said Friday that he was suspicious of claims of responsibility purportedly made by Islamists angry at an anti-Muslim movie made in the United States, explaining that the widely-circulated Internet postings might have been an attempt to deflect attention from the true culprit. "In the intelligence world, we call that a `false flag,'" said Mike Smith, whose Web security company Akamai has helped analyze some of the attacks.

Akamai is NOT a web security company. Akamai "mirrors" content to multiple locations making web access faster. Nice work AP, if the news doesn't fit, just make it up.
As far as Denial of Service goes, these stories are planted just to soften up the already dazed public. The sky is falling, so here is just one more reason why we need a really really big government in charge of everything. During the few moments when the dudes in Washington are not surfing Porn or trading the market with inside information, they can be running our entire banking system (with a list of all of your passwords). Just sit back and relax, they will take care of everything.

Top congressional Republicans declared President Obama’s tax-laden budget for fiscal 2014 dead on arrival Wednesday, saying its failure to cut deficits destroys any hope of a “grand bargain” to fix the federal government’s fiscal crisis. The White House promoted the budget as an effort to restart negotiations on long-term deficit reduction with a mix of higher taxes on the wealthy and modest trims to entitlement programs. But House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, said the president’s proposals on Social Security and Medicare don’t come close to addressing the programs’ looming insolvency.

With Sens. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.) and Patrick J. Toomey (R-Pa.) reaching a deal to expand background checks on firearms purchases , the way appears to have been cleared for the Senate to start debate on gun-control legislation. Although their provision is not as far-reaching as what President Obama proposed after the Newtown massacre in December, he praised it as “common sense.”

In a stunning end to one of the most aggressively unsuccessful tenures in retail history, JCPenney (JCP) last night announced that CEO Ron Johnson would be leaving effective immediately. Myron Ullman, Johnson´s predecessor at JCPenney, takes office as CEO. When Johnson was initially wooed by JCPenney, it was to serve as CEO with Ullman as Chairman. In January 2012, Ullman was unceremoniously removed from the board. Gone with Ullman was any control the Board of Directors had over Ron Johnson and his control of JCPenney resources.

The state of California is reportedly considering legislation that would force group insurance policies to provide infertility treatment for gay and lesbian couples. Two men who have sex with each other for a year and do not produce a baby would be considered “infertile” under the proposed legislation. So would two women having sex. Since biology does not allow those without a uterus to conceive or those without a penis to impregnate, every year-long gay couple in California would potentially be covered by this new provision of California law.
