Study: Female GOP politicians
look more feminine

Washington Times, by Stephen Dinan

Original Article

Posted By:nhchemist, 9/27/2012 5:04:22 PM

If a new academic study is to be believed, Republican women politicians look more feminine than their Democratic counterparts. The study, by two UCLA researchers, found that female politicians with what are described as stereotypically feminine features tended to be Republicans, and the reverse was also true for Democratic women. GOP women rated, on average, twice as stereotypically feminine as Democrats. In fact, the authors said the correlation was so strong that undergraduates were regularly able to guess someone's party affiliation just by the way she looked.

Comments:
Bella Abzug comes to mind when thinking about Democratic woman politicians. For another take on this, see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xIOLgnnwbw.

For Democrat women to get any position of political prominence, they have to be homely. The pretty ones only have one purpose - to sexually serve male Democrat politicians. I think this was a tradition started by the Kennedys.

I don't necessarily think all Dem women started out ugly. But when you become a female who is always angry at a "paternalistic" society and therefore refuse to try to look nice; bitter that everyone doesn't think exactly like you; and add an obsession with killing babies - well that's when you look like your face caught on fire and someone beat it out with a chain. Just like the myth that Dems are generous people, this is another Democrat myth: ugly Democrat women are more competent. It is also sexist on their part to associate feminine looks to incompetence.

Having worked in a huge professional firm and now having a number of very nice looking female clients, my observation and experience tells me that the good looking, well-dressed women are usually more competent. Ugly women usually don't have the organizational skills and motivation to get their hair and make-up done and out of the house everyday in nice, well-kept and well-chosen clothes.

Today the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis released their 2012 personal income estimates. Personal income is an important economic measure of a state’s well-being. (Snip) Since 1950, Maine has increased taxes and spending dramatically with the introduction of the sales tax in 1951 and the income tax in 1969. New Hampshire, on the other hand, did not. Increasing taxes on the private sector has two consequences. First, higher taxes will mean less money in the pockets of individuals and businesses which will reduce their ability to invest for the future.

Many who march in the army of the president say that all they want is to return to the good old days when Bill Clinton rode the range and rich people paid their fair share of taxes. Back then, they say, all was good. In 2000, the top tax rate was 39.6 percent and there was a 2.9 percent Medicare tax on top of that. (Snip) This means that the top stated rate for taxes is now 43.4 percent — a rate that is higher than that paid in Clintonian times.

Electric cars are promoted as the chic harbinger of an environmentally benign future. Ads assure us of "zero emissions," and President Obama has promised a million on the road by 2015. With sales for 2012 coming in at about 50,000, that million-car figure is a pipe dream. (Snip) If a typical electric car is driven 50,000 miles over its lifetime, the huge initial emissions from its manufacture means the car will actually have put more carbon-dioxide in the atmosphere than a similar-size gasoline-powered car driven the same number of miles.

The lesson is that huge budget deficits and ultra-low interest rates — the basics of stimulus — have limits and can be self-defeating. To use a well-worn metaphor: Stimulus becomes a narcotic. People feel better for a while, but the effect wears off. The economy then needs a new fix. Too many fixes may spawn new problems (examples: excessive debt, asset “bubbles,” inflation). That’s already happened in Japan. It’s caught in a trap. On the one hand, it needs stimulus to grow. On the other, the debt from past stimulus measures threatens future growth.

Late last week, Republicans offered amendments that would trim the bill significantly, but few of those were made "in order" by the Rules Committee on Monday.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church.
