| Taxpayers spent $1.4 billion dollars on everything from staffing, housing, flying and entertaining President Obama and his family last year, according to the author of a new book on taxpayer-funded presidential perks. In comparison, British taxpayers spent just $57.8 million on the royal family. Author Robert Keith Gray writes in “Presidential Perks Gone Royal” that Obama isn’t the only president to have taken advantage of the expensive trappings of his office. But the amount of money spent on the first family, he argues, has risen tremendously under the Obama administration and needs to be reined in.

OUTRAGEOUS. And it could be an undercount. We already knew that the staff was being paid too much and Michelle's staff is far too large for any First Lady. Plus all those vacations and the extreme security, even when the daughters went places like Mexico. If we let him back in be assured it will get even worse.

Michelle has loved all her expensive, lavish and luxurious vacations all at the taxpayers' expense. She even invited all her family and friends. She really wants her husband elected, as she does not want to lose her perks that she feels she is entitled to enjoy.

As I understand what has been reported, Gov Romney will not take a Salary, same as he did in MA. Or was that a dollar per year. Also, Gov Romney ought to use this in a Campaign Ad. His Vacations will be at no cost to the Taxpayer, let alone requiring all the extra Personnel that Pres Obama has with him when he travels. Gov Romney is a frugal man. The Ad would drive the MSM up a tree, so to speak.

Agree with #7. Details count and comparisons are the best method for certain analyses.
It is obvious the Obama's have been lavish but how much was personal? And the categories?
Probably won't know for years. I consider federal accounting a farce. As Gore said, there is no controlling legal authority when Congress is thwarted or indifferent.

I don't even remember that Bush 43, 41 or Ronald Reagan ever even took a vacation, except to go to their respective homes for a week or two. Bush 43 and Reagan would chop wood. Bush 41 owns a sailboat. That's it.
None of this jetting around the world, 5 star hotels. What happened to the story couple of years ago when the Big Mooche took a couple hundred of her friends to a huge hotel in India. Reports were it cost $100Million/day.

In 2010, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth cost British taxpayers $57.8 million. The population is around 62 million. Multiply by 5.5 to get a rough equivalent of what the cost would be if the UK had the same population as the US and the number is under $318,000,000, nowhere near $1,400,000,000.
According to reported statistics, the Queen costs each Briton 94 cents. If you divide $1,400,000,000 by 314,000,000 Americans, you see that Americans pay around $4.46 each to support the Obamas.
I freely admit to being a math dyslexic so if anyone can come up with more accurate numbers, go for it. (I'm not even going to go into the 47% thing, just double the amount to get a rough number.)
Naturally, I don't think the Obamas are worth even $4.46 of my money. Wait, no wait--make that not worth ANY of my money.

We at Townhall have been covering this hotly contested Senate race for months and the results are finally in: With 36 percent of precincts reporting, Elizabeth Warren has been declared the next junior Senator from Massachusetts. Warren has never held public office before and the eye-popping $40 million she raised this election cycle evidently proved more than enough to unseat incumbent Senator Scott Brown.
