Obama's lead is built on race,
class and gender. This is an
identity politics election

Telegraph [UK], by Tim Stanley

This presidential election breaks the golden rule in that it isn’t being decided by the economy. Despite all the miserable news about jobs and debt, Obama continues to build a lead over Romney. To explain why, Democrats argue that their guy is “on the right side of history”--that he’s winning simply because he’s right. The Romney camp tends to pin it on press bias and bad poll sampling. Neither explanation speaks to the race, class and gender revolution that’s reshaping US politics. In an odd way, this is an identity politics election. Thomas Edsall has an article

Clearly this is the decisive and destructive type of campaign that Obama is running.
Obama has no positive record worth running on.
Question is, will it really work.
The strange polls are all about assuming that it will, but never asking the question.

Obama has already tried the multi-100 million dollar smear with limited success. Time to try something new.

What lead? Yes, Oblahma benefits from the universal support of bigoted blacks and femanazi chicks, but undecided voters tend to be pocketbook voters and they are being squeezed by tepid job growth, declining wages, soaring prices at the pump and the grocery store. Undecided voters tend to be apolitical, but that doesn't mean they will reelect a doofus if it will make life harder for them and their family. Mitt has done a great job with targeting these voters and it will pay huge dividends on election day.

We have to put the blame right where it belongs, on the American voter. There are so many stupid and ill informed voters that it is scary. If judged by the past 3 1/2 years obama should be down by 25 points but he's not. And I don't care what kind of campaign Romney is running. Anyone would be better than the fool we now have. Stupid voters vote for stupid people. We could be in big trouble come November 7th.

Race, class, and gender will be meaningless by 2016. We will all be dependent on government. Some corporate leaders will be swallowed up into the politburo. The others will flee to a freer business climate. Its still weeks before the election and already Obama is ignoring inconvenient laws like making an effort to count ballots from servicemen overseas.

If Obama were really in the lead by 9 points as some recent polls project, do you really think that Obama would be hustling around the country 24/7 sometimes drawing small crowds, and just about always talking to safe groups like college students and union gatherings that he should already have in the bag.

If there were such a legitimate big lead, Obama would instead be lounging in the White House watching ESPN and playing golf.

The most successful politicians write their own obituaries. I have read a number of Baroness Thatcher´s today and wondered whether the writers would be surprised if they were told she would probably agree with most of what was written, even in the Left-of-centre outlets. This is because successful politicians so dominate the debate on the issues they care about--which were many, in Thatcher´s case--that they determine the course of the argument including the response from opponents. They do this by defining themselves in the public imagination by what they are against rather than what they are for, and leaving only
