| Andy Williams, the silky-voiced singer whose recording of Moon River brought him fans all over the world, has died at the age of 84. Williams died on Tuesday night at his home in Branson, Missouri following a year-long battle with bladder cancer, his publicist said. Williams revealed in November 2011 that he was diagnosed with the disease but planned to continue performing. Williams began singing with his brothers as a child, and his easy style and mellow voice led President Ronald Reagan to call him 'a national treasure'. The singer proved ideal for television.

Comments: I am posting this article because it contains wonderful pictures and a video of him singing Moon River. His voice was so warm, mellow and soothing, unlike the "singers" of today who don't really sing. RIP Mr. Williams.

Andy Williams's contributions to the popular music canon will never be lost as long as there's a record, a CD, or a radio station to play them. Even more important than the hard copies of his recordings is the echo of his songs in our minds. We shall all miss him. Rest in peace.

I fondly remember Andy Williams' TV Christmas specials. We did not watch much TV, but this is one of the few TV memories I have from childhood. Like many other stars, he began singing in church. Williams will be greatly missed.

A great singer from an era when musical talent was a requirement for the industry. What a loss.
I just checked my playlist and I'm shocked I don't have 'Moon River' on it; it's a wonderful song. (Although I do have others of his songs on here, I'll have to fix that oversight.)
Any time I hear 'It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year', I can't help but smile. Especially if it's that Staples commercial with the depressed kids.

Late in posting but he will now receive his reward in heaven. Fantastic talent and although show biz is just that he seemed to smile more than most and always seemed to mean it.
Lots of cruel jokes about his Osmonds connection but there can be no doubt that they are a talented bunch in their own right and have paid tribute to him today.

And we can reduce our deficit, stabilize our debt, and do so without sacrificing the kinds of investments that are going to be required to grow. During his remarks, the president spoke of the

One of the first political issues negotiators must tackle in crafting an immigration reform bill is among the most important: what to name it. It’s a decision that will bruise egos, create legacies and deeply affect subsequent messaging battles. “Every time the bill is mentioned in the press, you either have a brand that´s positive or a brand that doesn´t mean anything or even hurts you,” said Frank Sharry, the executive director of the pro-immigration reform group America’s Voice. The wrong name, he warned, could doom a good bill. “If there´s not a

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

Margaret Thatcher had more impact on the world than any woman ruler since Catherine the Great of Russia. Not only did she turn around—decisively—the British economy in the 1980s, she also saw her methods copied in more than 50 countries. "Thatcherism" was the most popular and successful way of running a country in the last quarter of the 20th century and into the 21st. Her origins were humble. Born Oct. 13, 1925, she was the daughter of a grocer in the Lincolnshire town of Grantham. Alfred Roberts was no ordinary shopkeeper.
