Williams has died

USA Today, by Ann Oldenburg

Sad news to report from the music world: Legendary singer Andy Williams died Tuesday night. His rep tells Lifeline Live that Williams passed away after a year-long battle with bladder cancer. He was 84. Williams, who was one of the most popular vocalists of the 1960s as well as an avid golfer, died at home in Branson, Mo., where he owns the Moon River Theatre. Moon River -- by Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini -- was one of Williams' signature songs.

I can't hear his voice without reminiscing about Christmas in my house as a child.

Andy Williams, for me, defined my fondest childhood memories of many joyful Christmas celebrations.

Andy was one of my all time favorite entertainers. Two years ago, my husband and I went to Branson just to see his Christmas show. We really enjoyed every moment. A really class act. The younger "entertainers" today could learn what class is. RIP, Andy ..

Several years ago I took my mother to see Andy Williams and Glenn Campbell at the Moon River Theater. It was one of the highlights of my life.

One of Andy's recent tweets was...

Between mowing the d@mn lawn at the Moon River Theater and keeping my vocal cords limber I don't have anytime for myself.

The guy had a sense of humor right to the end.

As a kid, I gravitated more to rock n roll. But I remember in high school, a buddy used to play his Andy Williams tape in the 8-track player, and I had to admit... the guy had a set of pipes! One of the great pop vocalists of his generation.

He also introduced the Osmonds to the world, and anybody over 50 should remember his Christmas specials.

I guess if he was an avid golfer, he woulda voted for Obama, huh? Can he still vote absentee?

Andy will be missed - he was an institution.

Thanks for the link, #14. Many of the great American performers truly loved this country. Andy Williams was a great American patriot.

Like many other posters here, I too remember Williams' wonderful Christmas shows which put us in the Christmas mood. His specials were always something to look forward to.

For #9 and anyone who assumes Andy Williams was an Obama fan:

Before the '08 election, we were in Branson and saw the Andy Williams show. We thoroughly enjoyed it and were pleasantly surprised at his comments which showed him to be conservative and left no doubt as to how he would vote.

He was not a fan of Obama. Classy people tend not to be DemocRATS!

As a former bull-rider, William “Buck” Uptmor didn’t get spooked by much. So when the fire began at the fertilizer plant in West, Texas, he jumped into his truck and rushed to the scene to assist volunteer firefighters. When his 17-year-old cousin, Reagan Uptmore, heard the explosion at the West Fertilizer Co. plant — a blast so powerful it registered as a magnitude 2.1 earthquake — his first thought was Buck: “I called him … and he didn’t answer,” Uptmore said. The family began a frantic search, but Uptmor is still missing and believed to be among the dead

When Morris Bridges got the alert about the West Fertilizer Co. fire on Wednesday, he knew dinner would have to wait. Friends say the 41-year-old fire sprinkler technician and West Volunteer Fire Department rookie kissed his toddler goodbye and told his wife, Carman, that he would be right back. From miles around West, volunteers suited up and sped toward a fire on Jerry Mashek Road that turned out to be a death trap for Bridges and more than a dozen others. Of the 14 confirmed by late Friday as victims of the massive explosion, at least nine were firefighters.

The White House Correspondents’ Association dinner — considered the glitziest and most buzzworthy event of Washington’s party season — appears to be a bit more low-key this year. Between the guest list absences of some of Hollywood’s brightest stars and a more subdued party scene, many folks working behind the scenes agree this year’s dinner will be decidedly more subdued. One shindig noticeably void from the soiree circuit this year is Funny or Die’s annual First Amendment Party. Last year’s high-caliber bash on the eve of the dinner had partygoers bumping and grinding at the event’s huge

Uncle Sam lets another bunch of leeching future terrorists into the country who have absolutely no business being here, gives them “asylum,” making them immediately eligible for welfare, and this is the thanks we get? They turn into mass murderers. We are still speculating about virtually everything right now, but I feel as though I need to explain why I find the quick and easy conversation about Muslims being radicalized in America to be so illogical and laced with bigotry. Of course, there is a global violent jihadist movement, loosely organized, that wants to recruit young men to influence policies at home and abroad and perhaps usher in the global caliphate. That ideology motivates some Muslims to kill innocent people. But you´re allowed to be a radical Muslim in America.
