Marching Orders: A High School Band’s Communist Celebration

| A Pennsylvania high school has put together a rather startling halftime show for the school’s football games. The New Oxford High School marching band has performed “St. Petersburg 1917,” commemorating the Bolshevik Revolution that brought the communists to power and led to the formation of the Soviet Union. The band, which performed the piece at the Friday night football game on September 14th, wore olive-colored military-style uniforms, and carried red flags–along with giant hammers and sickles. “There is no reason for Americans to celebrate the Russian revolution,” said an irate parent who alerted Fox News to the debacle.
|
Comments: The excuse that this performance was somehow meant to “present the musical importance and the struggle during this turbulent time of world history” is decidedly not credible. Why not some patriotic American music and the American flag instead? But the hammer and sickle appears to be the first thing that came to mind as the symbol used. Nah, I'm not buying the excuse.

So celebrating the communist revolution is somehow a just reason. Notice tens of thousands of American dough boys were dying in Europe at the same time. And music such as Souza came out of that little event. But one could never consider celebrating the music and sacrifice of Americans when hero worship of a murderous regime is possible.

There are alot of adults responsible for this commie celebration band performance. That band program didn't get on the field without practice since August. Where were the parents and administration? Who made the red flags and hammers and sickles? Who bought the uniforms? As a band parent, I can tell you my child would not have participated in this travesty.

This is so wrong on so many levels I am dumbstruck. I know the point has been made here and in the article (and BTW, nowhere else--can you imagine the news coverage if, say, they had celebrated Bach's mostly church music with crosses and cassocks?)--but I just want to take that fatuous "educator" by the throat and dare her to celebrate Wagner's music with swastikas and black uniforms to potray another "turbulent time in history". The schools are just lost, I think--absolutely lost.

I looked in the Constitution, but couldn't find anywhere that the State should be responsible for education, any more than it should be responsible for health care. Public schools inevitably, sooner or later, become a machine cranking out Hope and Change. Children should not be subjected to them.

Today`s public school pupils are not taught the horrors of communism and the millions enslaved and those who died at its hands during the 20th Century. Anyone, no matter what age, who has a romantic view of communism is ignorant of its destructive dogma. Unfortunately, the school kids don`t know any better but the adults running that asylum should certainly know better. If they allowed this then a pink slip is in order.

The answer is sensitivity training. I'm serious. Every time someone steps out of line regarding some lefty pet cause, the offender is sent to re-education camp, er, I mean sensitivity training. Here, everyone involved, including the superintendent, band director, and entire faculty should attend classes on the atrocities and mass murders committed by the Communist Party worldwide. Some of the instructors should be people from Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia with personal experience of these horrors. Then this training should be incorporated into the history curriculum which is taught to all students. Let's go, New Oxford school board, you can make this happen.

Of all the arguments public-school advocates have used to hoodwink generations of parents into condemning their own children to years of state-controlled subservience training, one of the most successful is that without public schools, children cannot be properly "socialized," and will therefore be ill-prepared for life in the "real world." [Snip] The basic premise of the argument for public schools as necessary tools of socialization is that learning to get along, or fit in, with children one´s own age is a vital life skill. Is it?

The mysterious disappearance of about 30 dogs in southern Idaho has baffled animal control officials and raised concerns among dog lovers after a German shepherd was found with its head crushed in a suspected ritual killing. The missing canines range widely in size, breed and age. "The dogs seem to vanish into thin air," said Debbie Blackwood, director of the animal shelter in Twin Falls, Idaho. Officials say some 30 dogs have gone missing in recent months in Twin Falls and nearby communities in an agricultural region in south-central Idaho known as the Magic Valley.

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”
